Hmm, let + mutable objects.... To avoid the problem, I'd try:: <dtml-let columns="db_Columns[:]"> which should "clone" the list, instead of merely binding another name to it. Mutable "global" objects (lists, dictionaries, maybe instances?) inside DTML (or PythonMethods) are kind of a gnarly problem. Anyway, why this causes extension problem is because objects other than images may need to have extensions and may need to be referenced with HREF's in the site. For example, downloadable Powerpoint presentations need to end in .ppt or Windoze will not know how to open them when they're on the file system. Also, I edit all my content pages with Dreamweaver (for PC) and so they need to have .html extensions 'cos while Dreamweaver is very good for editing, it's too stupid to use MIME types to recognise what type a file is... Hello Frederik, Try closing your Netscape browser and reopening it. Sometimes that helps. The Let Tag How-To?

Sorry for bothering you about this, but I've been trying to go through your Let Tag howto. I'm doing this on 2.1.4, and I get the feeling that some features have deprecated. Your example: <dtml-let name="bob" relation="uncle"> <dtml-var name> is your <dtml-var relation> </dtml-let> doesn't work for me; I have to add an additional set of quotes to make it work: <dtml-let name="'bob'" relation="'uncle'"> <dtml-var name> is your <dtml-var relation> </dtml-let> Can anyone explain what changed and why? Quotation itself feels clumsy; is there any way to escape-sequence quotes? In nested DTML/SQL expressions, being unable to use \" seems awkward. Thanks for any help.

Stripping some bark off the dtml-tree

Digging in the code a bit, I see that the header and footer, if used, need to be in the standard document format. They MUST start with <dtml-var standard_html_header> and end with <dtml-var standard_html_footer> These variables are used to pass in the proper table indention code instead of page headers and footers. Of course, you can "roll your own" if you are generating non-standard tables. They get passed and you must display them so that you can have a chance to override the nominal algorithm. -- Richard Wackerbarth rkw(a)Dataplex.NET
