Great Zope job opporunity!

Sorry to barge in like this, but my boss is seeking python/zope developers and the head hunters out there don't have a lot of contacts in the zope community. If you are interested in working on zope, working regularly with the fine folks at Digital creations, and/or Z-commerce, have I got a job for you! My company (ZapMedia.com) is looking for a zope developer for our music and video portal site. On my recommendation they checked out Zope and Digital Creations, and they liked it. So now we've decided to build a Zope Site. Knowing that we don't have the expertise in house to build the kind of boundary pushing site we want, we've contracted with Digital Creations to help us construct the site. (For an idea of what we want to do, check out http://www.zapmedia.com. IMHO, this is also an example of how we need help with our web smithing.) Though Jim Fulton et al are doing the heavy lifting, we need a zopista in house. Ultimately this person should take over the site when DC has finished its job. Zope wisdom needed

Zope masters, listen, for the student has doubts. I am building a Cope site that will be a cooperation tool for my workgroup. Some of the other group members are not extremely computer literate, so all my interfaces have to be simple, and only contain the necessary functionality. Now, in our work, we have Items. Items have statistics and descriptions. I want to make it possible for the group members to manipulate Items. I want them to be able to see lists of Items, organized by different criteria. I want them to be able to change the statistics of Items. I want them to be able to read and change the descriptions. If they write a new description for an item offline, I want to enable them to upload this description for the Item. All this without them meeting the complexity of the Zope "manage" interface, only my own home-built tables and forms. After meditating on the Zope documentation, I have come to the belief that the right thing to do will be to create a Product with a Z class that has statistics as properties and a DTML document containing the descriptions. However, confusion clouds my mind: * How do I set properties from DTML, based on form input? * How do I edit the contents of a DTML document from a DTML method? * Is the structure I have chosen the best one? -Magnus

ZSQL and REQUEST variables

Hello, I defined a ZSQL method with two optional arguments categoryconfig:int=0 entryid:int=0 SELECT * FROM DIRECTORYSUBMIT_ENTRIES <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-if entryid> <dtml-sqltest entryid column=id type=int> </dtml-if> <dtml-and> <dtml-if categoryconfig> <dtml-sqltest categoryconfig type=int> </dtml-if> </dtml-sqlgroup> When I call the test interface like http://server/sqlListDirEntries/manage_test?categoryconfig%3Aint=0&entryid%… (note the "%3Aint") evrything works. The resulting SQL statement is SELECT * FROM DIRECTORYSUBMIT_ENTRIES When I call http://server/sqlListDirEntries/manage_test?categoryconfig=0&entryid=0&SUBM… (noew "%3Aint" is missing) I get SELECT * FROM DIRECTORYSUBMIT_ENTRIES where (id=0 and categoryconfig=0 ) What would be the correct if clause? User Authentication Question

One of the requirements of a web site that I'm working on is the ability to restrict certain areas of the site to people who have registered with the site. I'm experimenting with GenericUserFolder in an effort to support this. The idea is that the site would use cookie-based authentication and the user would login via a registration screen. I think I understand how to do this within Zope. However, in addition to users accessing the site just to view its content, I will also have users accessing the site to manage content. When a user wants to manage content, I would like to display a different login screen or use a different login mechanism. For example, I don't want to put my content manager information in my user registration database. My question is this, is there a way to tailor authentication based on the type of access a user is asking for? Is there a way to programatically know if a user is accessing management screens (there must be, otherwise the whole security mechanism of Zope would work). Where in the Zope code would I look to gain a better understanding of how the whole security mechanism works? Any tips or pointers on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks. James W. dtml-in question

I have a situation where I'm searching a catalog for items which meet a criteria. The results are listed on one or more pages (using the batching feature of dtml-in). What I want to be able to do, but don't know how to do, is get the total count of items found. For example, when the first batch is displayed, I want to display a message which says something like xx results found. 1-10 displayed. How do I get the total number of items found from the search? Sending HTML Email

Hello, I'm wanting to send to HTML Emails from Zope (either dtml-sendmail or external methods). As far as I can tell I could use the "<dtml-mime>" but I would have to read through the HTML file and parse out the images. And then import the images into Zope to get the mime encoding? Is this correct? I've also looked at doing this through external methods (the way I'm leaning right now) using htmllib and mimify. Has anyone else done this? Or if you can point me to some resources for helping me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help, --James

new version of Local File System product

I've posted a new version of the Local File System product, version 0.1.5. This is still a development release. It fixes multiple problems related to permissions in the local file system (as opposed to Zope permissions).
