authenticated_user troubles

I am trying to implement a mechanism to let managers edit content on a site that I am building. I have the following statement on various pages to add certain functionality to pages based on the Authenticated-users's roles: <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role(['Manager'])"> blah blah (e.g. display an edit or delete button) </dtml-if> I am currently authenticating by a login link in the standard_html_header to a DTML document that opens in a new window and can only be viewed by a Manager (I edited the security setting for this particular object so that only managers could view it). If the manager logs in correctly, a javascript closes the login window, and reloads the original page to presumably now include the editing and deleting buttons on my content....but it doesn't work. "This server will be used by approximately 50 people who will mostly make use of the document management abilities of Zope and run occasional database queries." I'm sure many folks will confirm that the configuration you mention will easily be adequate for 50 users. One point to watch out for is the 2 GB file size limit of current Linux (on 32 bit Intel), since the default ZODB storage is all kept in a single disk file (data.fs). As for scaling by an order of magnitude, one way to achieve higher performance is to have multiple, identical, Zope installations acting as clients to one (or more) standalone database(s), on one (or more) separate computer(s). Typically this scenario requires another separate computer acting as the load balancer, distributing requests for "URLs" among the Zope servers. This scenario can boost performance, but introduces the need for a sound synchronization process. In the simplest case you'll have a minimum of four computers, two Zope hosts, a database host, and a load balancer. The Zope and database hosts can be incremented (units can be added) as load increases, to distribute the "hits" and the growing datastore. Further, this "server farm" model itself can be incremented, by spreading Zope folders across several such "farms" of servers, with only the topmost folders common among all Zope installations. In such a case separate domain names for each "server farm" would be useful to designate the actual physical location of distributed content. Another means of "spreading out" Web content is to host certain data types (e.g. images, java script libraries, java "applets", large static HTML files), in a file system of a conventional shared file server (e.g. Samba, NFS). There are numerous methods described in user developed How-Tos on Zope.org to serve conventional (external) data "through" Zope, usually to enable "mix and match" finctionality within a Zope context. You can see there are options to explore before you will abolutely need ZEO, but you should also make sure you are aware of the added features that ZEO offers, that the above strategies lack.

dtml-in batch processing

A few dtml-in questions. I have created a query form which uses the POST method. The action points to my DTML Method. Inside my dtml-in loop, I have the following <dtml-if previous-sequence> <a href="<dtml-var URL><dtml-var sequence-query> query_start=<dtml-var previous-sequence-start-number>"> (Previous <dtml-var previous-sequence-size> results) </a> </dtml-if previous-sequence> The problem is that <dtml-var sequence-query> only works if I used the GET method in my form. Q1) Is there a way to make this work if I am using POST? The list in my <dtml-in > tag is returned from an SQL method. Q2) If I revert to using the GET method and the <a> tag lists all of the parameters, does zope rerun my SQL Method or has it stored it in cache somewhere? Thanks, Ron Denis rdenis(a)lucent.com

Suggestions regarding two errors w/ZClass?

(Zope version: Zope 2.1.4 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) ) I have a ZClass with base classes: ZObject, _ZClass_for_CatalogAware, _ZClass_for_Folder & ZObjectManager which allows me to create a tree of my ZClass instances. line continuation

Is there any kind of line continuation character in DTML that could be used to prevent a method from returning line breaks? I have some methods that use a series of DTML tags to do something and currently I must put everything on 1 line to keep from getting unwanted line break characters in the rendered method output? Ok, I've added a few more bits to this, and added it to the collector. I'm confused about the change you had to make? was this a bug in my example? Or was it something in your code...
