LoginManager HOWTO?

(I'm not sure if this is the right place... perhaps zope-dev or zope-ptk, but anyway...) I'm trying out the LoginManager independently of PTK, and well, it just doesn't work :-) I can add it to the folder, then it immediatly locks me out. This is the same problem most people have on their first try of GUF, so I looked in the source code for a similar way out (a fallback user), but I haven't found one. What am I doing wrong? :-) Also, an inquiry: The reasons I don't use GUF are, (1) it doesn't by default acquire users, and (2) it's (in the author's words) "trivial to grab people's passwords". (1) is bad because I don't want to make it any easier for people who maintain subsites here to lock me out of them. It is already possible to do that by creating a different user with the same Id (and not giving it any roles), but that can be easily walked around too; but not acquiring users is something that (for us) just won't do. Running Zope from CD

Hi, We have lot of documentation and training manuals to which we have made a nice front end in Zope. Problem is many peopls don't've good net connection and will be on the road, to effectively access the site. I have an idea that just burn the Zope site into a CD, distribute it and people can go and start the Zserver from CD in their Windoze machines. (I don't've a CD burner to try this out) Do you think this is feasible? I know zope creates locks and stuff like that, but is there anyway to run Zope from a completely read-only medium? on Windows? I can ask people to copy the folder from CD to their PCs and try - but I work for a non-profit organization and our PC's are not exactly equipped with big hard drives! Actually, I don't think url_quote_plus is what you want. I think rather you need to come up with a DTML method that replaces spaces with plus signs only. You don't want to URL-quote the whole url, because when doing so, you replace colons with %3a's, etc. You don't need to do this to pass this to a redirect, and as a matter of fact it won't work at all. Answer about REQUEST problems in 2.1.6 ZSQL Methods...

For those of you who have been struggling to figure out why references to REQUEST (like <dtml-with REQUEST>) don't seem to be working anymore on 2.1.6 installations, I think I've finally tracked it down. In lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, there is a section near the top: try: from ExtensionClass import Base __roles__=None class RequestContainer(Base): def __init__(self,**kw): for k,v in kw.items(): self.__dict__[k]=v def manage_property_types(self): return type_converters.keys() Note that the __roles__=None line is in a silly place - it really wants to be in the class statement: try: from ExtensionClass import Base class RequestContainer(Base): __roles__=None def __init__(self,**kw): for k,v in kw.items(): self.__dict__[k]=v def manage_property_types(self): return type_converters.keys() Note that this fix will be in the next release - in the meantime you want to make this fix to your BaseRequest.py file in your 2.1.6 installation rather than work around it by changing DTML code to pass the REQUEST explicitly. A lot of the "common abstraction" benefits of using PAM are perhaps eclipsed by the much higher-level abstractions offered by the LoginManager product. I think the best approach would be to work with Phillip Eby and Ty Sarna (the developers of LoginManager) who are about to release an LDAP-enabled LM derivative. My guess is that writing a PAM/kerberos LM derivative will be a SMOP, given the LDAP version as a model (think, "writing an ethernet driver for Linux, for a NIC much like the 3C509"). Trees of search results
