Catalog reindexing in Python

Zopesters, I am trying to make a python based class be Catalog Aware and be reindexed when it is edited. I basically started with the Boring Product How-To, and have turned it into a Company Product. The class inherits from CatalogAware (someone somewhere said that CatalogAware had to be the first base class). I create my Company instance in another class by calling the constructor with no values, then immediately calling the manage_edit method to update the data. Based on that, I am trying to index the object in the constructor, and reindex the object in the manage_edit. With the code below, the object gets indexed in the catalog, but all the fields (indexes) are blank! The reindex_object call is not working for some reason. (At least it is not updating the field indexes like I would expect.) The other gotcha is that I have named my catalog something other than the default "Catalog". I believe the line, self.default_catalog='YPCatalogForSorting' takes care of renaming it. I have a feeling that I have a problem with Acquisition. It seems like the constructor knows how to find the catalog, but the manage_edit does not... Factory inside a ZClass

Zopists, Here's the structure: Control_Panel Product BigClass SmallClass_factory SmallClass I want to create instances of the SmallClass inside an instance of the BigClass. I tried not using the factory, but it created the instance in the Product folder. When I try using the Factory, it raises an Unathorized error for the superuser. Anyone do this yet? Warning: Newbie - object handling

When I have a folder "myfolder" and a string str="myimage", how am I supposed to get a handle on the object myfolder.myimage within DTML? How can I move "myimage" to "myotherfolder/mynewimage" ? Through manage_clone maybe? I know enough not to try cut&paste, it sets a cookie and works only within the browser, right? Why, if objectMap returns a list, it's not called objectList? :-) -- Zope: the most un-orthogonal thing you can do with python.

Passing arguments to ZSQL method

Hi all, I have a problem with variables and namespaces. Here is the problem: I have the following dtml-method (index_html): ... <dtml-call "SQL.update_Cantidad_en_Lin__venta(N__documento=N__documento, N__linea=N__linea, Cantidad=10, N_=N_)"> ... update_Cantidad_en_Lin__venta is a ZSQL method to update a row. If I call the dtml method with: index_html?Cantidad=3&N__documento=ES356&N__linea=10000&N_=GE-RNEW then the field "Cantidad is updated with 3 instead of 10. How can I update it correctly with 10? Any ideas?

Perhaps you should start with a non-technical description of what Zope does. i.e that it stores things in a database, things which can be web pages but can also be more clever than that, that at the time the web page is requested any dtml tags are interpreted/rendered (is that the right word ?) to generate the final page. I think there's a tendency for newbies to think of DTML as a procedural language and forget what is actually happening. Try to avoid all the OO gobblydegook - it isn't necessary at this stage. I think you need a really gentle introduction to namespaces/variables with lots of examples. Theres a need to explain the REQUEST variable ( a whole chapter IMHO) and how form variables get lost when you move to a new form, information about passing variables to and from SQL methods, how to use the _. and all the functions such as _.string. All of this backed up by real-world examples (starting easy and getting more complex). Using variables within dtml-let and dtml-with tags. The focus should be on 'how do I do xyz' (eg how do I take user input, check it was entered properly, upshift it, concatenate it with a constant and insert it into a database) not what a particular tag does. Can I say that the book I would most like you to emulate would be the HTML 4.0 Sourcebook by Ian S Graham. No computer science, just what you really need to know. Can I suggest that you make no assumptions about the previous languages the reader has. Please don't assume they have Python or C or Java or Perl or anything. I would imagine you have to assume a basic grasp of HTML and web servers etc, and of course when you talk about SQL methods and Python methods you don't want to be teaching them those languages. Subclassing from GUF-User object

Hi All! I have subclassed a cusstom-user-object from the GUF package, but I need to provide the "guf" argument to the User's __init__ method. Two strange things: a) where do I get a reference on the folder (since constructing a user with the management interface uses a factory). I tried PARENTS[1], which is an object that has meta_type GUF, but: b) strange, strange things happen when I do this... the user instance get normally created everything looks fine. I switch to another level within the tree and back to my folder again... suddenly my user-object is a generic-user-folder and "could not lock state for..." messages flush the screen. (obviously I can thrash my dbase from that point on, since any attempt to erase the broken object turns out to be impossible) I need help... FAST! regards, Ingo.

Zope hanging (poss. threads-related)

Apologies for the imposing subject line... Briefly, since increasing the NUMBER_OF_THREADS that Zope uses from the default (4) to 20, Zope has been hanging randomly. A request will be sent off to Zope (whether through apache with mod_pcgi, or directly through ZServer), but the request is never served up, and Z2.log shows no record of it. No additional CPU is taken by the python process. Environment: Zope 2.1.3 (source release) python 1.5.2 GCC 2.7.2.3 FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE The problem was reproducible on pages with framesets, where some of the frame documents are loaded, and one is omitted. It occurs when viewing the management interface, for example (manage_main is displayed, but manage_workspace is not). It seems that only one thread hangs, since other requests continue to be served. Not only frameset pages were affected, though only on frameset pages did the hanging consistently occur. This behaviour was exhibited under minimal load (one or two users), and ceased when I reverted to 4 threads and restarted Zope. Our development machine, running 2.1.4 source, had no such problems when running Zope with 20 threads. I don't recall any drastic changes or checkins between 2.1.3 and 2.1.4, though... (that was basically the /REQUEST traversal security fix) I'll be installing Zope 2.1.6, and try to approximate the the same conditions, but since this is a live machine, it's going to be tricky to find a window of time to perform the switch-over... Anyone out there with some ideas as to the root cause of these hangings, or with similar tales to tell? TIA, -- Marcus

newbie: how to url_quote

Hi, This is definitely a newbie question, but I can't find the answer in the list archive. Please someone kinely help ;-) I need to pass arguments to a DTML Document via url, something like errorPage?errorCode=<error code>&errorMsg=<error message>. The way errorPage is invoked is by <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(errorPage...)"> Question: how do I url_quote my <error code> and <error message> in dtml-call tag? I have tried both the tag form of <dtml-var and the short hand form &dtml.url_quote but both got invalid syntax. Please help and thank in advance. Chien-pin

zclass and sql

hi all i am at my wits end trying to figure out how to use ZSQL methods in my ZClass. seems i can add ZSQL method just fine, but can't use it. is it at all possible? i've searched thru the mailing list, and saw a similar question but it was'nt answered. now i'm developing in a normal folder. just figured out that if i can use zclass and zSQL together, then it's a matter of copy/paste. thks -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?
