Hi First, thank you all for having help(ed?) me about URL redirection I have just a small question about the text type: one of my ZClass have a text property, and I would like to print it. for a string property, I do <dtml-var "Object.property"> which work.. but for the text property <dtml-var "Object.property"> do not print anything....... How could I do it?? Thanks for your attention Pierre

img src (newbie)

Based on previous e-mails here, I have read that Zope does not support server-side includes. Is there a way to get around this in reference to an img src, as in the following: <img src="myprogram?-action=gif&yadda yadda yadda> Basically what I have here is a page that includes other documents (maps, graphs, etc.) via server-side-includes. If there isn't any way around this, then I may have to forgo Zope for now...too much of my system depends on this sort of thing. Thansk in Advance, Jessica

Using a list in dtml, you could use anything that returns a Python list or can be turned into a list. This includes (for example) SQL databases, Tiny Tables, Zcatalogs and in general anything that returns a ResultSet (if I remember the term correctly). Objects also have properties. Property types that return a list include token and lines. Properties can be manipulated with manage_editProperties and manage_changeProperties (see for a short guide the ZQR at http://zdp.zope.org/projects/zqr) or some of the DTML guides. If you define ZClasses you may do even more complicated things with propertysheets. Hard coded lists could also be returned from DTML methods residing in the acquisition path of an object. For example: <dtml-return expr="['a', 'b', 'c']">, but you could also imagine more intricate things. The same may be accomplished by PythonMethods or External Methods. You, see, too many possibilities. It depends on what exactly you want what you need. I am using a sub-set of Zope 2.16 i.e. ZPublisher, DocumentTemplate with a standard CGI calling convention via Apache on NT(no PCGI or FastCGI at this point). I want to use the TreeTag with this so I have been playing around with it and have it partially working so far. I am having an amusing? problem. The TreeTag outputs multiple lines separating them with '\n'. When the Publish module calculates the content length it sees one character per new line for example it evaluates 'this\nis\na\ntest\n' properly as being 15 chars in length. However when sys.stdout writes it, it converts '\n' to '\r\n' this being Windows and all. So my 15 character string has now been effectively lengthed to 19 characters and the displayed output is truncated by 4 characters. I tried replacing '\n' with os.linesep and this works for the tree code but has no effect on the rest of the stuff that gets generated. I am sure I am not the first to run in to this, does anyone have a solution they wish to share? I know I can fix this with a regular expression substitution but I would like to avoid that if I can. New user: Z Class questions

I'm starting to get the hang of it, but there are still a few things I'm having trouble sorting out. Basically what I'm trying to do is create a nested set of objects for a class web site. The objects are a Course Folder, which contains Unit Folders, which contains Lesson Sheets. Using this, any teacher can put up a class website with a common interface by simply pasting lext into the lesson sheets. What I did was to create the Course Folder class based on the folder base class, the Unit Folder based on the Folder base class, and the Lesson Sheet base class based on the DTML Document base class. I created the lesson Sheet class inside the UnitFolder Class inside the Course Folder class. Now I want to add additional properties to the classes, like TeacherName and Textbook to the course folder, UnitName, OrderNumber (for sorting purposes) for the unit folder, and LessonName, ChapterReference, orderNumber, etc for the lesson folder. My questions: 1. How do I add these properties to the classes? The Property Sheets seems to be something different, at least adding property sheets doesn't addd properties to instances, and 2. Why do my UnitFolder and Lesson Sheet objects not show up in the Add List inside a Course Folder instance like it says they should in the ZDG? Thanks in advance! Ed Hitchcock ehitchcock(a)bvg.on.ca

It seems that there's no response to this question yet. I have met the same problem before, so I think it is time to offer my suggestion. I'm afraid that the only way to keep an object in RAM but not as a percistent object is to define the variable in a product's global space. I have used this technique to keep a open pipe in RAM. Of course, you have to define some method in the product in order to access the object from outside. There is another way, name the variable as _v_????, meaning "volatile", then the variable is not kept in ODB. But, the variable can only exist for a short period and then it will vanish automatically. 2.1.6 and login problems ... source found

OK, regarding that authentication problem I reported with 2.1.6 on a previously working site.... With a working test server, I slowly started adding a variety of products. The moment I added SiteAccess, it broke. Didn't even need to _use_ it, just have it installed. It may be that the ZODB had cached somehting on the earlier site, and caused the problem (at one time SiteAccess _was_ installed. object title when created

Hi all, I am currently learning Zope by following this howto How-To: Build a Searchable Job Board When it comes to set a title to a new Z-object, one should just define an entry "title" in REQUEST dict. As in the following statement: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('title', firstn + ' - ' + surn)"> The problem seems that "title" never get defined. If I choose another name than "title", it gets defined though. Has anyone already seen such thing? ZServer listening

I'm running ZServer 2.0.0 on a linux box. Looking at the output of netstat -ap I have Prot Rcv S Local Foreign State PID/Prog tcp 0 0 *:www *:* LISTEN 433/httpd udp 0 0 *:1026 *:* 606/python z2.py OK, so why is Zope listening on some random UDP port (or am I misreading this - is it not actually listening?) I'm fairly sure all my database connections are through normal unix domain sockets. The same process also appears to have some open socket connections, as expected: Proto Ref Flag Type State Inode PID/Prog Path unix 1 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 2863 606/python @00000027 unix 0 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 2866 606/python <zope>/var/pcgi.soc unix 1 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 15470 606/python @00000145 Can anyone shed any light on this for me? A couple of methods pop into my head: 1) At the point the data is available, use a <dtml-in> to call an insert procedure once for every exam score. 2) Pass the list of (exam_score, student) in as a list of tuples to an sql query and use a <dtml-in> combined with a <dtml-var sql_delimiter> between each insert, such as: <dtml-in exam_scores> INSERT INTO EXAM_DB VALUES (<dtml-sqlvar score type=?>, <dtml-sqlvar student type=nb>) <dtml-unless sequence-end><dtml-var sql_delimiter></dtml-unless> </dtml-in> passing the data in in a usable format could be a challenge if you have two lists instead of a list of tuples. i don't know what the maximum size of an insert is - you may be better of with (1) if the insert size is large.
