Nope. try (untested) <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('state', _.string.split(TEXT, ' ')"> this will put a variable state in your namespace with a list containing the split values from TEXT. You can then do what you want (but from your description I didn't quite get what that was, sorry) Rik

need advice on remote authentication

i've got an app i'm trying to build for my division. i'd like to take advantage of zope's security model to control access to various parts of the site. seems straightforward, but for one wrinkle. i need to authenticate users via a remote authentication service run by the company's HR organization. my organization explicitly does not want to be maintaining our own users and passwords, so i'd like to automatically create users as needed, rather than manually via the zope management interface. i've built some test objects that do the authentication, but don't know, once i've figured out who someone is, how to fit this into zope's notion of users and roles. here's how the authentication works: assume the HR site is: foo.att.com/authenticate?return=mysite.att.com i redirect to that page, the user sees a login screen. he enters login/password, gets redirected back to mysite.att.com i use an FSSession to keep track of where to go next, and can find out who the user is via cookies set by the HR site. at this point, i assume that what i need is to somehow tell zope which user this is (creating one if needed), an that after that point everything works as if the normal mechanism had been used. can anyone give me some clue how to do this? also, if my general approach to this scheme is off base, i'd appreciate being told so. thanks -- Garry Hodgson Every night garry(a)sage.att.com a child is born Software Innovation Services is a Holy Night. Sage provide an ODBC driver whioh you can use from Zope, but it is read-only. Navision will run on SQL Server I believe so in theory you can update its tables directly from Zope, I've never used Navision myself so I don't know how easy it would be in practice. >For my current project, I need software to manage billing, accounting >information, etc ... A nice problem with url_quote_plus

Hi. I have the folowing code in one of my DTML method's: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(_.string.join([url,query],''))"> 'url' and 'query' are two variables passed by the REQUEST. This work's just fine, but with some minor :-) problems in my case. If i have a 'query' with some spaces, the RESPONSE.redirect causes an obvious http error. So, i want to replace some characters of my 'query' variable. And guess what? <dtml-var url url_quote_plus> gives me the right string. How do i do an "quote_plus" ( like in python urllib module ) in Zope, without using an External Method? BTW, i've used an python method, but with no luck ( i can't make a simple "import urllib"). TIA, @886, Nbk ( Just believe, Zope source code is the best place to find up-to-date documentation! ) P.S. - I've looked up for the solution in www.google.com, www.egroups.com, lists.zope.org, www.zope.org, www.python.org, and some other resources. I had find some interesting ideas, but none of them are usefull to this problem. :-)

Zope/XML futures?

/DELURK Greeting to fellow travellers in the Kingdom of Zopremia! I've started playing with the XML capabilities of Zope and I'getting quite excited! A few wierdnesses (mainly involved in writing to the DOM) but generally looks great! I remember a while back DC said there was a (plan for a?) cooperation with FourThought to incorporate 4DOM - I understood this to be as a replacement for XMLDocument. Can anyone give a road-map for this work (both technical - what sort of changes should we be expecting etc? as well as schedule wise)? It would be nice to have a vague idea of the future route before I do too much that may have to be discarded later. Lastly - somewhere along the line the XMLDocument (I'm using a6 with 2.1.6) has lost the capability to fully support finding components into a Catalog as demonstrated in the XML.com article by Amos -- "Eval" and friends seem to have gone missing; I assume that at some time XMLDocument must have been inheriting from DTMLDocument. Not a disaster but mildly irritating all the same. I'm not yet confident enough of my knowledge of the Zope architecture to know what would be involved in getting this functionality replaced; the obvious solutions of putting DTMLDocument back at some point in the hierarchy have all kind of backfired on me and I'm somewhat confused and groggy from the attempts. listmate + CSV problem
