I've been developing against Interbase as of yesterday, but it's pretty trivial to make a RelationalStorage work against any SQL database (if it supports transactions). I started with MySQL (because I already had it on my machine), but it's almost impossible to guarantee data integrity using it. However, Oracle, Interbase, Postgres, Sybase, etc. should handle it fine. Those interested may want to check out http://www.zope.org/Members/jim/ZODB/RelationalStorage. There's a design there and a (very, very broken) implementation (in the off chance that you happen to get it actually running, do NOT try to use it to actually run Zope on an actual honest-to-god server). I could use any comments folks have to offer.

Another Zope question

I'm making a few backend modifications to my Zope page so that different content styles can be selected. I'm trying to create a page-viewing mode which eliminates tables, graphics, JavaScript, etc. from my pages, and adds in a few extre navigation buttons. To help with this, I'm modifying my navigation bar system. Originally I wanted to create menu methods on each page which output the actual HTML of the links, but I'm changing this to a more abstract system. I've created a menuitems property on each folder which I'd like to have a sidebar attached to, and the standard_html_header loops through this. I'm running into a problem, though. The property in which I'm storing the menu data is formatted like: <relative ID of document being linked to> <title for menu item> . . . and the code basically loops through this and inserts the data into the anchor tags. (I plan to add sound to my page and would like to allow folks the option of turning it off site-wide, so even though this looks pointless, it makes sense. :) And the (very broken and silly :) snippet of code is: <dtml-in menuitems> <dtml-if sequence-even> <a href="<dtml-var "_['sequence-item'].absolute_url()">"> <dtml-else> <dtml-var sequence-item></a><br> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> So, of course, I'm calling absolute_url() on a string, when I'd like to be calling it on an object. The sequence-item is always an object ID when the index is even, so what I'd like is code which returns an object when passed its ID; something which assumes that the ID is either in the current folder, or is being acquired. So, something like: myResume = this().lookup("resume") would return an object and allow me to call myResume.absolute_url(). Is there such a beast? And, if not, how difficult would it be to write? Could this be done as a DTML method? Thanks a bunch.

Hi, Are there any open-source streaming technology available for Python/C++? (I know this is a far-fetched question. But I would imagine people are getting there.) What about real-time voice/image captioning? Anything open-source? Strange Infinite Recursions

If I create a DTML method called 'method' containing only: <dtml-if 'method'> There is always true </dtml-if> I get: Error Type: SystemError Error Value: infinite recursion in document template Surely it should just always be true and so should evaluate as such without infinitely recursing? #1 I am using the Zope rpm and the ZServer rpm. Up to this point I have been testing and developing my site. I am now ready to open it up to my .com address. However I am a bit confused and was wondering if anyone could help me. >From what I have read I need to remove the Zserver package and install the Zope-pcgi package and then modify the httpd.conf. However this particular server has some other sites on it and I don't want to affect them. This is what I have found that needs to be changed in the httpd.conf RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/static/(.*) /home/httpd/html/$1 [l] RewriteRule ^/cgi-bin/(.*) /home/httpd/cgi-bin/$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/(.*) /home/httpd/cgi-bin/Zope/$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] is it that simple and if I do this will it affect the other virtual sites? #2 I also noticed that the Zope.rpm is running as "zope" should it be "nobody"?
