I know that there are a YAZ toolkit which I think have client and server. I think there is no python code for wais or z3950 available. Propably, some one should wrap the YAZ with python. Rgs, Kent Sin

The Zen of ZClasses

I'm still calling myself a Zope newbie especially when it comes to creating new programmatic classes in Zope. I struggle to translate the following example into good Zope practice: I have a class called CLIENT, which holds client detail. I have another class called ACCOUNT which stores information of an account for a spesific client. When a user creates an new ACCOUNT he must be able to select the CLIENT from a list of clients. What i need guidance on is the linking of these two classes. I thought of just creating a property ClientName in my zclass, Account, of the type selection and spesifying ClientList as Value for my property. ClientList is a method which returns a list of clients. Is this the best way to day it, or is there a better way? Roché Compaan

Newbie problem with dtml-in expr.........

I expect that this is somewhere in the documentation, but I cant seem to find it. I appolagise if I am asking a stupid question. I am creating a list of jobs to be done in our department, and to populate one of the html tables, I need to get a database column from a query based on a lookup table. In other words I am trying to do something similar to: <dtml-in expr="qryJobType(JOB_TYPE_ID='6')"> This works ok and returns the results where the JOB_TYPE_ID=6. However the JOB_TYPE_ID needs to be retrieved from another query. I have tried: <dtml-in expr="qryJobType(JOB_TYPE_ID='<dtml-var Type_ID-->')"> But this doesnt work. I am assuming that the '' around the dtml-var is trying to treat this literally rather than expand it. I imagine that I have to do something to this to escape it from this action but cant seem to find out what. IF someone could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. changing method permission???

Hi zopatistas, first, as I see there are still responses for my question about testong the id, I founded the solution, you can test it, but like that: <dtml-if "id() == index_html"> anyway, I have another problem, which is that I want to change the index-html method from another method. I make a form which has a new_index_html text area, and from it, I call a Builder method which is: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call "index_html.manage_upload(new_index_html)"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> The problem is that zope says that there is an autorisation failure and ask me a new password. So, I think I have to change a permission somewhere, but I do not find where. How my dtml method Builder change my index_html method??? Thanks for all

MS FrontPage Extensions?

Hi all, Has anyone done anything with integrating MS FrontPage with Zope? I know it sounds kind-of bad... but I'm getting desperate. :) We have several departments here that have non-techy people needing to maintain mostly static web pages... but I'd like to give them some additional pre-built dynamic Zope products they can easily plug into their sites too. So, in short, I would like to let them publish from FrontPage to Zope. Several problems immediately crop up: MS FrontPage makes extensive use of what it calls "private" directories (directories whose names begin with "_"). Zope cannot handle objects whose id's begin with "_" because of Python's naming conventions. Soooooooooo... when you try to publish a MS FrontPage "web" to Zope you get errors. There are other little irritations which would be nice to solve, like: changing the default document from index.htm to index_html, making use of standard_html_header and standard_html_footer, and making the server side extensions work. To solve some of these problems I created a Windows python script which takes a published MS FrontPage "web" and fixes/ftp's it to Zope. So, a person can use MS FrontPage and edit their pages. When they're done, they can publish to a directory on their local hard drive. Then they run this little python script which does the following: 1. Renames any files or directories beginning with "_" to a name that does not begin with "_". 2. Edits all html pages, changing links to files/dirs renamed in step #1. 3. Renames index.htm to index_html (*) 4. Strips off all html outside the <BODY>...</BODY> tags, replacing it with <dtml-var standard_html_header> and <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and keeping some HEAD tags in a separate file called "additional_header" (which can then be optionally included by the standard_html_header) 5. FTP's all files and associated directories to a Medusa (Zope ftp server) (*) To keep step #3 from breaking links, add an index.htm method high in the object hierarchy which simply calls index_html So far this approach seems to work quite well. Now I would like to add functionality for some of the MS FrontPage server-side extensions. Several of the SSE's seem to be almost trivial to convert into equivalent Zope dtml. Others seem more complex. General questions: 1. Has anyone gotten MS Frontpage and Zope to talk any other way? 2. Does this approach seem like a good idea? 3. Has anyone created Zope replacements for SSE's? ...or similar products? 4. Is there any interest in this? (i.e. would anyone like to help?) Interesting mxDateTime problem (and solution)

I've just spent most of the morning beating my head against this problem, so I thought I'd post something here in case others hit the same issues: I use Marc Lemburg's mxDateTime package extensively in my Python programs and was trying to incorporate some things using it into Zope. Unfortunately, it is apparently not possible to use it "straight out of the box" with Zope because of problems with the import path. To make DateTime work under Zope, you have to rename the directory to something *other* than DateTime (I'm calling it DateTm, for example). If you have lots of references to DateTime scattered around in your code (as I do), the simplest thing seems to be to change any 'import DateTime' lines to: import DateTm DateTime = DateTm It's ugly, but it works. :-) The reason for this is because when you run 'import DateTime', the __init__.py method tries to do 'from DateTime import *', expecting to import things from DateTime/DateTime.py. However, it appears that the python interpreter starts from the beginning of the import path and looks for the DateTime module again and stumbles across the directory, rather than DateTime.py. Since this doesn't occur outside of Zope, it is a combination of a strange path setup (or environment, I'm not sure which) under Zope and some unlucky (but usually quite ok) naming (DateTime directory and DateTime.py inside that directory). They are usually stored as binary large objects (BLOBs). This results in some impacts on SQL. You cannot use most of the SQL features for projection and such sort of thing.
