Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

Using Zope DB connection from a Python class

Greetings, For the past few days, I've been unsuccessfully trying to use a Zope ODBC connection from within a Python class. I have the following situation: 1. A Python class, Order, which has this method: def create (self, cust_id, connection_id = None, itemcode = None, quantity = 0): while self is not None: if hasattr(self, 'objectValues'): for o in self.objectValues(): if hasattr(o, 'id'): if o.id == connection_id: self.connection = o self.cust_id = cust_id self.itemcode = itemcode self.quantity = quantity query = 'insert into orders (cust_id, itemcode, quantity) values (%s, \'%s\', %s)' % (self.cust_id, self.itemcode, self.quantity) if self.connection != None: self.connection._begin() result = self.connection.query (query) print result self.connection._finish() 2. A Zope class, TestOrder, which subclasses Order. Its constructor tries to invokes 'create', however upon executing the SQL query, Zope either dies and is restarted, or just sits there, doing nothing, until the HTTP connection times out. In either case, the new record is not written in the database. 3. Zope 2.1.7 Z ODBC DA 3.0.3 Solid dev kit 2.3 RedHat Linux 6.1 on i386 Please help. Thanks, Ivan Raikov

Reversing acquisition?

Hi All, Here's the situation I have a tree such that /index_html /text_object_1 /text_object_2 /subfolder/text_object_1 /subfolder/text_object_2 where content is: /index_html <dtml-var standard_html_header> <table> <tr><td><dtml-var text_object_1 fmt=structured-text></td></tr> <tr><td><dtml-var text_object_2 fmt=structured-text></td></tr> </table> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> /text_object_1 Just some text of text_object_1 /text_object_2 Just some text of text_object_1 /subfolder/text_object_1 Just some text which is different from /text_object_1 /subfolder/text_object_2 Just some text which is different from /text_object_2 The effect I would like to achieve is: when user access http://myserver/, content of /text_object_1 and /text_object_2 will be shown while user access http://myserver/subfolder/, content of /subfolder/text_object_1 and /subfolder/text_object_2 The point is that there's no index_html in /subfolder so /index_html will be acquested and by default it displays content of /text_object_1 and /text_object_2 The question is: we got text_object_1 and text_object_2 in /subfolder how could I let the acquested index_html in subfolder to use the objects inside the subfolder? If my desired effect could be achieved, that would be very useful as the whole site could use a master template at root, changing objects inside folder could show different content. While changing the root index_html will change the layout of the whole site Otherwise we have to put the same "index_html" inside every folder so that default view of folders will show their containing object content. If this is not easy, is there any other way to achieve the same effect? I don't want to use something like "http://myserver/?c=some_parameters" which is my current implementation (where site structured is not preserved or shown by URL) Thanks, Roger

There was tremendous discussion on the mailing list around the time of the introduction of the new syntax. As Jim made clear, the goals of the new syntax did _not_ include XML compliance. Instead, the goals were: a. Get rid of the old syntax. The SSI style was universally ridiculed and requires typing of hard-to-reach characters. b. Make it possible for some HTML editors that can extend their tag database to recognize DTML tags. At the time of the introduction, XML editors were not widely adopted. That still hasn't changed. I haven't been hearing of any hanging issues with the 2.2 betas, which makes me suspect that something specific to this site may be in play here. The fact that it comes back to life on its own after a while makes me think that this is either a very strange system issue or tied up with something that has a timeout (for ex. is it possible that a query is trying to run, timing out against the postgres database?) NOTICE: issue with database packing in current Zope releases

Hi all, Jim found a problem with the algorithm for packing the Zope database that we wanted to announce so that folks can avoid being bitten by it until the fix is out (in b4). The gist of it is that you should not pack your database to a given time and then subsequently pack the database to an *earlier* time. For example, do not pack to "older than 0 days" and then pack to "older than 10 days". The algorithm in the current Zope releases doesn't handle this correctly and depending on the exact circumstances can end up getting rid of objects that it shouldn't in the packed version of the database. Note that if you _are_ inadvertantly bitten by this, you can recover by using the Data.fs.old in the /var directory that is created at pack time. MySQL Select Statements

Hi Everyone, Just need someone to put me straight here. When I use Select statements in an SQL Method I cannot simply : Select Column1, Column2 etc from TableA. Instead I must use the AS statement ie Select Column1 AS Column1, Column2 AS Column2 from TableA. Is this just an oddity with the MySQLDA/Db adapters or am I overlooking something blatantly obvious here? All the examples on zope.org don't have the extra "AS Column1" additions on them and I was wondering if this is a Zope/mySQL-unique thing. I'm using Zope (2.1.6) with MySQL (3.22.32) with Zope MySQL Database Adapter (ZMySQLDA) 2.0.0a1 and MySQLdb module release: 0.2.2 . Could someone please let me know as I don't want to have to type the extra bits on all my SQL statements from here on in if I don't need to (I am the world's worst and laziest typist). If it is the case that it's a necessary evil, then I want to put a HowTo or Tip up on zope.org because it took me a while to figure out what I was doing wrong, and if I can save someone else that same wasted time then I would like to. However I wanted to get my facts straight (via all you experts) first.
