I wonder if anyone has a sample Python script that traverses the ZODB to query or perform arbitrary operations on the objects found in it? My present requirement is to write a script that goes through and does some automated updating of several dozen DTML documents. Thanks. David Trudgett

Zope should not be responsible for this strange behaviour. It simply executes the SQL statement and asks the result for the result column names. It then wraps each result row in an object that allows to access a column value as attribute under the respective column name. You could try: <dtml-let SQLresult=SQLMethod> <dtml-var "SQLresult.names()"> </dtml-in> to get the list of column names your Z SQL Method "SQLMethod" returns. This may give you a hint how your database names result columns. I recently found out that Oracle returns column names converted into all uppercase. I needed about 2 hours to analyse this weird behaviour. Dieter

Proxy role bug (or feature)

Hi, I have encountered a problem with proxy roles with my product GuardedFile. A GuardedFile is a File that is accessible by proxy only. When a GuardedFile is created, all acquired permissions are unset and a proxy role is created in its container with the sole permission 'view'. In all other aspects a GuardedFile behaves like a File. Typically, the GuardedFile creator next creates a DTML method and assigns to it the associated proxy role. Anonymous and other users access the GuardedFile via the DTML method. I've discovered a problem with the product setup: Suppose user 'ngps' exists in the top-level user folder, and has the default roles 'owner' and 'manager'. 1. ngps creates a folder called 'junk' somewhere within Zope. 2. ngps switches to the folder 'junk'. 3. ngps creates a GuardedFile 'agf'. A proxy role 'proxy_for_agf' is automatically created in 'junk'. 4. ngps creates a DTML method 'view_agf' to access 'agf'. When ngps tries to assign the role 'proxy_for_agf' to 'view_agf', the following error is generated: (Slightly reformatted for readability.) This proxy role handling seems unwieldy, in that 'ngps' cannot assign the proxy role but can create another user 'user2' that _can_ assign said proxy role. Is this a bug or a feature? Zope/Apache Question.

I have Zope and Apache working together->except for the URL rewriting so I can use http://localhost/Zope and get it to launch... I am still reading docs but have multiple versions of RewriteRule. Access object inside a folder

Hi, I have put objects inside a folder tabledef and would like to refer them : <dtml-in "_.getitem('tabledef').objectItems(['DTML Document'])" sort=id mapping> <dtml-var "_['sequence-item']" html_quote> </dtml-in> However, this does not work, But putting the objects in the current folder works without problems: <dtml-in "objectItems(['DTML Document'])" sort=id> <dtml-var "_['sequence-item']" html_quote> </dtml-in> I also try: <dtml-with tabledef> <dtml-in "objectItems(['DTML Document'])" sort=id> <dtml-var "_['sequence-item']"> </dtml-in></dtml-with> and some other combinations, all without success. How can I access the objects (DTML DOCUMENTS) inside a folder? Moreover, I would like to do the following: I have some properties of an object abc which have same name with the object ids in the tabledef folder, I would also lookup the objects' properties : <dtml-in propertyMap mapping> <dtml-with tabledef.id> <dtml-var help> <dtml-var taborder> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> Assume abc have a property address, then there should be a dtmldoc call address in tabledef, which have properties "help" and "tableorder". Howto engineer a scientific paper system

How to engineer a scientific paper system Are there products out for this, should we produce one? ------ In short, I would like to have Zope assist me in producing a scientific paper. So how can I produce pointers from within the text to objects holding more information about these pointers, i.e. a referene within a paragraph is linked to the bibliography. ------ My setup so far is a folder structure, with DTML Documents for content that have Properties holding the references in token (semi-colon) separeted lines. Methods are used to parse the folder (having chapter properties) and DTML Documents in order to get a table of content structure and html-styled reference list respectively. ------ The method I wrote are much of the type of dtml_tree using dtml-in to identify the object, produce something with that object, and then calling the method again from within the method. Sometimes, though, I get an infinite recursion. This requires lots of debugging, as the loads of methods intermingled with standard puplishing methods are hard to overlook. The parsing techniques would need exception handling and whenever I split a method up, the value is passed on the the request namespace (that might produce further havoc in a newbie scope of understanding). A class object system instead of scripts should work better and should also be easier to enrich with additional qualities later in the development process (as it still is the paper first that should get done instead of the software system). So maybe it is time for a full revision, letting classes produce the work. Are there other ways to achieve this? Maybe should I a produce something such as a lightened ZWiki product for that purpose. Or, should all content go into SQL tables? What steps should I take next? Any further ideas of co-problem-solvers? Regards, Christian

PCGI Error: (102) failure during connect to ZServer

This is with Zope-2.2.0b3-src.tgz The pcgi wrapper reports ...is unable to connect to the ZServer background process via Unix socket .../var/pcgi.soc I am trying to install this on a remote host, this error came up locally too, though. I followed glndspud's howto on 3rdparty host setup. With a 2.1.6 release I was able to get zope running. However, with this setup I was not able to login through manage, the authorization did not work. So my reasoning, an upgrade should make this error vanish. Not so, until now. ;-( Christian

Search Interface

I'm having some trouble setting up a search interface into a ZCatalog. I want to create a text index on the contents of my DTML documents, but I can't seem to get it to work. It search on title just fine. I think my problem is that I don't know how to create the right index, and what to call it (how the body or text of a DTML document is referenced). Can anyone enlighten me about this? I might be going blind, but I haven't come across anything in the documentation so far that answers my question. I'm about to resort to reading the Zope source! (which I think I will need to do sooner or later anyway, to get a better understanding of how it all works). Thanks for any assistance. David Trudgett

Why don't you create a ZClass and make the ZSQLMethod to be one of its methods? Then the ZClass can provide the user interface to the SQL query and the result set. How to cope with International characters / Zclass / property sheets...

Hi there.. Have anyone had problems with getting /345 etc. codes in their output? I get that when I try to "print" objects with texts after searching the items in ZCatalog .. .. could anyone give me any clues of how to solve this? Would be very happy if you could assist somehow!
