Unless not quite the opposite of if?

Greetings, I'm sure this should be obvious to me... but I can't seem to get this code to work. It's supposed to send you to another page if a var has not been passed... <dtml-unless parmName> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('some.url.here')"> </dtml-unless> The problem is, when i test the page, it seems to pass over that that, and go right on with the page. So, I tried to be a little more explicit: <dtml-unless "REQUEST.has_key('parmName')"> ... </dtml-unless> Again... goes straight through. What's going on here? When I use: <dtml-if parmName> (as I have done in MANY cases), it always evaluates true if 'parmName' exists in the current context. Bring out that ol' clue stick, and swing it my directions a few times, because I need help. -- Have a better one, Curtis. <dtml-var standard_work_disclaimer>

Problems with SybaseDA

Hi I have installed Zope-2.1.6 on my PC (Pentium running Mandrake 7) and it seems to work fine. However, I have tried installing the SybaseDA and am having trouble. I have downloaded and installed the common Sybase libraries, set the SYBASE path, complied it without errors and moved the sy_occ.so up one directory. However, when I restart Zope it fails and produces a core dump. There are no errors generated so I am having trouble diagnosing what is wrong. I can import the sy_occ.so into python without error, but if I try to import db.py and DA.py I get errors. These two scripts reference modules such as DateTime, zLOG, Missing, Globals, Shared.DC.ZRDB.TM, and Shared.DC.ZRDB.Connection - none of I can find. Can anybody please help? Thanks Austin

This will make editing help pages much easier and will eliminate the two step process of editing XML, rendering to HTML and then checking the HTML into CVS. We hope that this along with weekly ZWN summaries will give folks a much better idea of what were doing on the documentation front. * Michel is working on turning his in progress O'Reilly book on Zope into a piece of official Zope documentation. If all goes well the book will replace the current Guides. We are really excited about this and think that if we are successful that this will do a tremendous amount for Zope documentation. Next Week * We plan to complete and make public the Wiki that describes all official Zope documentation projects, their schedules and status. * We plan to focus on getting docs in shape for Zope 2.2 Specifically this means shoring up the help system docs, API docs, and tutorial. This all won't get done next week, but hopefully we can make some good progress and stay on track to have everything up to date for the 2.2 final release. If we are really fast we may even sneak a DTML reference into the Zope 2.2 final release. * Hopefully we will have final word on the status of converting Michel's Book into official documentation. That means we can start the process of making the Book public and opening it up to community critique and contributions. Zope Status -- by Brian Lloyd Summary o More collector issues resolved, made progress on the todo list for the 2.2 beta. Last week highlights A somewhat shorter list this week since we have changed the scheduling of the ZWN :) 12 more collector issues were closed and the changes to the ownership model were checked in (move and rename operations no longer affect ownership, a knob was added to the import screen to allow retaining existing ownership on import). The online help for ownership and import were updated and expanded as well. This week's friends of the core: o Jeff Rush contributed several patches from his RPM distribution. o Chris Withers gets the bug-writer-o-the-week award :^) o Sam Rushing clarified the license for the medusa files underlying ZServer. Next week Finish the outstanding issues for 2.2 beta 1: o Some basic hooks to support virtual hosting (a la SiteAccess) have been designed and will be added to allow product authors to write virtual hosting support without fragile dependencies on parts of the Zope core. o Finish changes to the undo machinery that will expose a more appropriate subset of undo-able transactions to the user. The set exposed now was fine at one time, but as the line between "site management" and "site user" continues to blur, a more restricted subset will make undo easier to delegate to a broader range of users. (I think that this is actually in testing now). o Get the minimal Observable default implemention checked in to the Zope core. Note that for 2.2 at least, the only impact of this will be that ZClasses will be able to subclass the default Observable implementation. While we suspect that many builtin Zope objects could benefit from being Observable in the longer run, we want to let the interface and default implementation shake out in application usage before taking that step. o Some misc. catalog bugs need to be closed. In other news, there is now a "zope-dev wiki", http://www.zope.org/Wikis/zope-dev/FrontPage where we will begin capturing discussions on future Zope development. Zope Studio -- by Martjin Pieters - Zope Studio has "a new home", http://www.zope.org/Products/ZopeStudio/. - With the new home comes a new and improved front door, with better access to the resources. This also includes a Tracker! - I fixed the Zope Studio install issues. This should be in CVS by the time you read this. Looking ahead - More fixes to unbreak Zope Studio against the current Mozilla codebase. - Start implementation of a object handling component architecture, where new object types can be supported with installing new Zope Studio components. Zope Web -- by Ethan Fremen - The Spotlight has been altered in a mostly behind-the-scenes fashion, but they should be easier to maintain. - The second Zope Chat went over well. Zope errors

I never see these errors myself which makes it frustrating. I know the url where these occur. Most of them occur at forms. How can I get the full url including the parameters of the queries that cause the problems? <dtml-sendmail> and Content-transfer-encoding

Dear All: I'm using <dtml-sendmail> to send messages of Chinese characters from Zope. From time to time I got wierd mail delivery behaviors. I was told then that mail header/message body must follow RFC-822 and RFC-2047 standard with proper encoding, if not in US-ASCII. Basically these RFCs are talking about methods of encoding for non-US-ASCII characters. My question is: How do I do this in Zope? Big thanks in advance! Chien-pin

seeking help on roles, authorization, permission

I've largely been able to ignore most of the Zope security mechanisms until now, but I have this new intranet app that's causing me problems. I have a folder called Reuters that has my application's methods; it has a subfolder called Staging that has documents being reviewed and subsequently published. I need to be able to limit the publishing to specific individuals. I created users in the Users Folder in my Reuters directory. I also created an editor role in my Reuters folder, and gave it what I thought were appropriate permissions, including manage_properties. I assigned the editor role to each of my new users. Users work in the Staging folder. When my users try to publish - which invokes a method that changes properties on documents in the Staging folder and also properties of the Reuters folder, they are prompted to log in by their browser. However, their usernames and passwords do not seem to work, and after 3 tries, they get a Zope error page saying they do not have permission to manage_changeProperties. I don't get it. Any clues? It's part of the Zope Voodoo ritual that everyone has to dance. :) In short, use <dtml-var "modules.leftbuttons(_.None, _)"> and see the magic before your eyes. Now, a longer explanation. When you use "module.leftbuttons", Zope does NOT call the leftbuttons method, intead, it tries to get its representation string (I think.) You will soon get used to the weirdness of DTML, and you will know that the following three approaches (1) <dtml-var "modules.leftbuttons"> (2) <dtml-var "modules.leftbuttons(_.None, _)"> (3) <dtml-with modules> <dtml-var leftbuttons> </dtml-with> all have subtle differences that haunt Newbies and Oldies alike. If you can tell the difference, congratulations, you've graduated from the Zope Elementary School and understood how the namespace voodoo works. Help on synchronous methods?

How can I synchronize external method completion with DTML method invocation? [and do I need to?] I found an unexpected bug in a Zope content management app I am developing: the actual publishing process invokes an External Method that uses urllib and ftplib to pull rendered documents from Zope and PUT them to a web server via FTP. One of the documents is a table of contents of the "current" documents, which is generated dynamically by a DTML method that looks at a property of each document in the folder. The last step in the publishing process is "archiving", a DTML method that clears the "current" property in all documents. What appeared to be happening was that the external method was still chugging along when it came time to grab the table of contents; meanwhile, the archive method had already cleared the "current" property, so there were no documents listed in the table of contents. First question: is my hypothesis likely? Are methods - in particular an external method - executed strictly sequentially (which is what I would have assumed) or is it possible that the DTML archive method could have completed before the prior external method did? Second question: if methods are _not_ executed synchronously, is there any way I can force them to be?
