Computed variable access is provided by "_[expression]" Sometimes, you must use: "_.getitem(expression)" Both forms evaluate "expression" into a variable name and look it up in the namespace resulting in an object. The first form calls the object, if it is callable, and returns the result of this function call. The second form always returns the object itself without calling it. For a DTML document/method "calling" means rendering, thus the result is a string. There is a related need: computed attribute access. Here, an attribute to be accessed is not fixed but must be computed. You would use "_.getattr(object,expression)" in this case. Dieter

It says that the communication channel to your interbase server (or relay) has been broken and no more data can be send through it. Look in the logfiles of the server (or relay) whether you can find any hint about why this happens. You could try to figure out, whether the problem occurs always in the same context. In your report, the problem was in the "_abort". Maybe, "aborts" are not handled correctly. There is some very strange code in the ZOracle Database adapter: When a query returns an exception, the code assumes that the database may be hosed, closes/reopens the connection and tries again once. I removed the strange code (during a memory corruption hunt) and we determined that Oracle 8.1.6 does not need it any more. But maybe, this is a way for your Interbase problem? Dieter

problem running Zope

Hi all, We have a web site developed on our Intranet for internal use. It is mainly to organise documents. The engine is running on a HP-UX 10.20 on a 800 series server. We have decided to migrate the server to a 700 series server running HP-UX 10.20 as well. The initial installation was done by someone who is no longer with the company so I have been asked to take care of the migration. I firstly tarred Zope & Python directories and transferred them across to the new server but when trying to run 'python z2.py" I get an error message saying the executable is incompatible with the hardware (obviously!!). So I tried to recompile the python source on the new machine and everything seemed to go through fine. Zope - long running process

Could someone please explain how to make sure ZOPE does not stop working and if it does then it restarts again? My platform is FreeBSD 4.0 -stable. Do I use CRON ? Do I turn the debug option off to detach ZOPE from the terminal it was started from? Regards, George mail(a)okstudio.com.au

Phil, Thanks for the send and resend. The pack you sent is version: 'ZMySQLDA-1-1-3'. I was getting SOME success with 1.1.4 (MySQL log files would show activity). When I replace the set I had with what you sent, I do not even find 'Z MySQL Database Connection' as an object to create in the Zope manage pages. There are also error messages which scroll of the Zope console start-up window (cannot find a .dll...). Which brings me to my current most pressing question: Is there a log file that records Zope's start-up news? (I've looked at <zope>/var/Z2.log, but it doesn't show the start-up tales.) So that searching for Foo* would find Foo, FooBar, fool, etc. I'm not sure if this works for Field or Keyword indexes though, I haven't tried it.
