Well, bad _technically_, or bad _evil_? <G> It does have the sole advantage you can pull a portion of your tree, and some people have had Data.fs problems (not me thankfully). But in general I'd guess backing up Data.fs to be the best way. How does it copy with non-atomicity of disk writes? This certainly isn't *efficient*, but it works: wget -http-user=usename -http-pass=password http://your.site.com/Zope/path/to/wherever/manage_exportObject?download%3Ain t=1 Will get you a .zexp of "/path/to/wherever", whereas: wget <blah> http://your.site.com/Zope/manage_exportObject?download%3Aint=1&toxml=Y Will get you an XML export of your entire site. Zope, database field formats, output format of queries

Hi, having searched through zope's website at the weekend and gone through the mailinglist archive I did not find stuff regarding the below in FAQs or HOWTOs. The general idea behind zope and the features of it are wonderful. I'm thinking of one application and would like to know: Can you create fields in a zope based database where you force the fields to accept e.g. only letters "M" or "W" or any other other combination of your choice? Can you setup database fields with a format e.g. of "99999/99/9" where all 9s mean numeric input 0-9 and the slashs are always put at their fixed positions by the software when the field is displayed for input? Can you setup database fields with a date format e.g. DD/MM/YYYY or MM/YYYY which *force* the user to input values in that format? Can you output queries of databases in a format you can choose yourself, that the output fields may be incorporated into serial letters to be run by/through text-processing or office systems? [python] creating variable names by adding 2 strings?

Hi there, I'm creating variables in python but I am having trouble creating them when they're *named* using other variables. Here's an example; while (p!=0): p+`p`= string.replace(component[control], ",", "") # e.g. I want 'p1 = string.replace.blah...' p=p-1 control=control+1 ==> SyntaxError: can't assign to operator :( I've tried various things but I cannot find a solution. I've got a nasty feeling that it's not possible... If someone could confirm this or hopefully, tell me how to do it I would be_extremely_grateful. Thanks, Lee (crossing his fingers)

Adding to an XMLDocument through web forms

Hi, I`m looking for a way to give a user the ability to add new data to an XMLDocument through web forms, does anyone have experience of this or would be able to point me in the direction of an example or howto? I have a file similar to: <channel> <event> ... </event> <announcement> ... </announcement> </channel> So i`d have two web forms, one to add a new <event> and another to add an <announcement>, taking the data from a form is obviously simple but adding this to my XMLDocument has stumped me. Any help would be appreciated. Ian

Hi, I'm using freeBSD 4.2-RELEASE and just tried to install python-1.5.2 and Zope. If you are trying to do the same and tun into the following error when trying to start zope, then apply this patch to the configure script of python and rebuild it. LoginManager disrupts access to protected object above it

Hi, This problem started with failure to access Control_Panel, which I thought was due to a SiteAccess problem... but I now tracked it to a problem with an instance of LoginManager. I have the following setup: Zope 2.3.0b2 ZPatterns 0.4.3b2 LoginManager 0.8.8b1 Zope/ test1 (PythonScript) requires Manager to view folder/ test2 (PythonScript) Manager proxy role acl_users (LoginManager) test1: return 'spam' test2: return container.test1 Calling test2 results in the traceback attached below. If I remove acl_users, test2 works. The LoginManager is a bit tricky, as it uses a virtual UserSource loading user objects from an external Specialist, but it seems to work in every other way. I have no idea if this problem is due to a bug in my LoginManager implementation or a general LoginManager bug. Can anyone explain this or suggest a way to find out what is going wrong?
