Add Python Product Tutorial to Zope book?

I realise that the Zope book can't cover every topic in advanced detail, but it might be hoped to touch on each of the major topics, even if whetted appetites have to seek further information elsewhere. However I feel that one major topic has been omitted entirely without any appetite-whetting opportunuity, namely developing Python products. Could the Python Product Tutorial* not be added to the book? It seems to be written with a similar approach as the existing chapters in the book, and so wouldn't seem to require too much work to be incorporated. Without a chapter like this I feel that the Zope story hasn't quite been told. How to know who an object's owner is

xmlrpclib in python scripts

We've started using XML-RPC with Zope and Java. Works fine, using external methods (Zope is the client). However, it would be neat to be able to use XML- RPC in python scripts. How do I validate a new module (xmlrpclib) for importing into python scripts? Of course, an XML-RPC client product would be even sweeter :-) -Magnus

Problems with DTML-IN patch!!!

My recent posts today uncovered problems with the DTML-IN patch being passed around. 'next-sequence-start-number' does not appear to be working. Even using a generic ZSQL method and a generic Z Search Interface that produces a result set greater than the SIZE provided. Searches that produced less worked fine. Anything over the SIZE blows up with a KeyError on the above variable. We replaced the files with those from the stable 2.3.0 and restarted Zope and all the methods worked as before. Allen

You should not use a "dtml-in" to check for the existence of an object. You should directly check for the object: I many cases, you can use <dtml-if "_.hasattr(aq_explicit,'attrname')"> or <dtml-if "_.hasattr(object.aq_explicit,'attrname')"> to check whether the current object or "object", respectively, has attribute "attrname". In some rare cases, this can give you a "true" result, even though the object does not have an 'attrname'. A save way is an external method "baseHasAttr" defined by def baseHasAttr(object,attrname): obj= getattr(object,aq_base,object) return hasattr(obj,attrname) and a test through <dtml-if "baseHasAttr(this(),'attrname')> or <dtml-if "baseHasAttr(object,'attrname')> Dieter

User home directories

We have a /homes folder where I intend to allow LAN users to have their own home directories. So, for this folder, I've changed permission so that "Owner" can see management views, edit DTML, add DTML, Folders, images, etc. Then, as each user, I create a folder for them (so that they own it.) They now can manage their folders, edit, etc. perfectly. [ with the oddity that Add ODBC Connection always shows up, BTW. It seems to have a wrong permission setting. ] My users can "Add User Folder", so they can add an acl_users folder so that they can create private areas, etc.; however, they *can't* seem to edit the user's directly: clicking on the acl_users only shows them the Undo/Security options, not the contents tab of acl_users. By directly entering the URL, they can get to the contents tab, and add/edit users. However, I can't figure out how my users can change the permissions of subfolders in their home directory. When they get into a intended-to-be-private subdir, and ask to see the permissions for it (so that they could take View away from Anon), they see the permission categories but EVERYTHING is unchecked. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug in this version (2.3.0/Windows)? Is there a document somewhere that describes user folders in a non-portal environment?
