Where domain names point

At work we now have heaps of domain names that point to different boxes all around and we have not proper record of this. Even I - a developer - have help reminding our sys admin where certain domains and hostnames point. Has anybody got a product ready to document this on intranets or something? If not, I might put something together sometime this week. <BR> Peter

Dictionary will automatically cope with duplicate keys (URLs). But some duplicates still will be there. For example, a call to a Folder (http://my.site/XYFolder/) will actually render its index_html. Now see: the URL http://my.site/XYFolder/index_html is different... but the rendered object is the same. So URL is not the best dictionary key. May be object's absolute_url() or such. Anyway it is not simple and I recommend you to ignore dup results in your OR searches. After commenting it I am able to add my modified LDAPAdapter product. Is there any documentation how manage_tabs are now working in 2.3.0 Zope version? In other pthon products I can see that in dtml file which is used for adding of product instance there is no <dtml-var manage_tabs>. I can see it in others only. Is there any constraint for using of manage_tabs? LoginManager newbie question

Hi there, i got the loginmanager to run, but i would like to have a small login dialog on the frontpage, wich should consult the LoginManager to process the request. I cannot trigger the login process from outside the Manager. /folderX index_html (with login form) acl_users any ideas??? thanks in advance Ludwig

Zope 2.3.0 python products and inheritance problem

Hi Zopists, I have developed some python products for Zope (2.1.6) and now I try to upgrade them for Zope 2.3.0 but some problems with inheritance have appeared. I have 2 python products, lets say A and B(A) which inherits from A. Product A has a method MA(REQUEST) and product B(A) has a dtml template TB. In the template TB I call MA as this: <dtml-var "MA(REQUEST)">. When I was running it under Zope2.1.6 everything was OK but now under Zope 2.3.0 when TB is rendered the Zope error is raised: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. SiteSummary

To all Respected readers, This mail is to query about a very useful product, namely SiteSummary. Its gets untar into a file 'SiteSumaary ' without the 'Zexp' extension. The Installation instructions says that you have to import the file in Zope. Zope gives an error that it has an invalid export header. I have tried to rename the file with the zexp extension but the error has remained the same. I have already been using the feedback form on the sitesummary page, but havent received any replies. If anybody can help me on this issue, I would be very grateful. -Thanks.

Rendering DTML from PythonScript

I have a PythonScript that uses traversal_subpath to suck in the rest of the path, and then calls a standard DTML document to render it, with the subpath being handed off in the namespace. The script just has """Call the faculty page for this faculty member""" context.facsearch(facid = traverse_subpath[0]) However, the called DTML itself calls things like standard_html_header, which throw up errors. How can I call a DTML method from a PythonScript while passing in the right context? (I've tried combinations of context, context.REQUEST, etc. I just can't seem to guess the right one!) The specific steps involved can be found in the documentation for PostgreSQL and operating system. However, it is also possible to perform the same operation using Zope as a form of middle-ware, that can interact directly with both RDBMS instances. In some cases this could be quite handy, though sub-optimal, in terms of efficiency. Most folks would perform a native export and import at both ends. At any rate, since it is possible to do this with Zope, and you seem to prefer this approach, here's the basic idea. Create ZSQL methods to extract all the data from each original table, and name them "sql_dump_table_name". They will look something like : select * from table_name Using the "advanced" tab set a cache value for this process somewhat higher than the default (0), so that the process is at least a little more efficient. A setting of 300 is equal to 5 minutes. Next, create corresponding methods to insert each record into the new, identical tables where you need to replicate the data, and name them "sql_stuff_tablename". They will look something like this: insert into table_name (field_name1, field_name_2) data (<dtml-sqlvar name_1 type=nb>, <dtml-sqlvar var_name2 optional>) In the "arguments" box you will need to list all the "var_names". Of course this example should be adapted to represent the actual number of fields, and their names, and data types, whether the field can be "blank" (optional). See the ZSQL docs for details. The names are arbitrary, but it helps in the example to keep things clear by identifying each piece. You can execute this admittedly inefficient process like so: <dtml-if sql_pg_dump_table_name> <dtml-in sql_pg_dump_table_name> <dtml-let var_name_1="_['field_name_1']" var_name_2="_['field_name_2']"> <dtml-call sql_pg_stuff_tablename> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> Process complete! </dtml-if> Hopefully your tables are small (not many records), but even if they are, this process may time-out, depending on your browser settings. If your browser displays a "page could not be displayed" message, the process could very well still be running, even though the browser has "given up" and stopped waiting for the display data. You'll need to look at the target database to see how things have progressed. With a little more work you could create lists of table/fieldnames, and set up a process that will extract - insert your entire database, without hard-coding each ZSQL method. The inefficiencies would be, compounded, but it could still be a convenient way to replicate data between two unrelated RDBMS systems, with little prior knowledge of either. This basic concept could also be used to create a Web based GUI for ad hoc data management, for mapping an existing Gadfly dataset onto an unknown target during a Zope based application installation.
