The code tries to read or write and gets an "input/output error" from the underlaying C library. This may happen, if a communication channel got closed, the file system is full or similar problems. I cannot believe that it happens in an External Method, too. They are completely unrestricted... Or, to say it differently: I use "open" in External Methods over and over again without any problem. Zope Products and SQL

I haven't seen this mentioned and I didn't find it in the archive, so I feel inclined to ask: Is there any way (aside from importing database modules ie PoPy) to execute SQL from a Zope Product? Is it feasible to make the product inherit from ZSQL methods and have them that way, or it is just easiest to use ZClasses? I use SQL in almost everything, but I also like Products and want to know the best way to mix them. Thanks. Troy

searching a Z-Catalog for a range of values

Does anyone know how I can search a Z-Catalog for a using a time range. I tried to do the following but it doesn't seem to work: <dtml-in "catalog(bobobase_modification_time=_.ZopeTime( )-1, bobobase_modification_time_usage='range:max') I got this code snippet from the Advanced Z-Catalog Searching How To. Getting a date into an object title

I want to put a date value into a DTML Document title so that when the DTML Documents are sorted by their title, they will automatically be sorted by date. (Incidentally, the title also has some other non-date information.) I've tried various schemes and they don't work. I'm using the Zope book template for creating the DTML Documents (which are loaded by the users who don't have manage access). This means that I have a form to gether information (including the contact date, which is transmitted from the form as "contact_date"). The form calls an DTML method that calls a Python script which creates the DTML Document. Any hints, either in DTML or for the Python script, would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ron

escaping single quotes in StructuredText?

If I want to show single quotes around some text in a page coming from StructuredText, how do I escape them so that they don't get turned into 'example code'? I could do something ugly like put other punctuation around the single quotes, but that's pretty ugly. Tried using backslashes, but that didn't work: it just showed the backslashes and single quotes explicitly, which is \'pretty ugly\'. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sudden authentication problem

I've been trying to use documentation and avoid asking the list, but I'm stumped now. I have three Zope 2.3 servers on RedHat 7.0, each running a ZEO client to get their ZODB storage from a ZEO server running on NT4. Users login with this DTML method: <dtml-let userid="REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'].getUserName()"> <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('/base/People/' + _['userid'])"> </dtml-let> which forces a login and points them to their home folders, in a folder called "People." But from this, I read that AUTHENTICATED USER doesn't have the permission 'Add EW Nav Links' (our own concotion, obviously), and it seems that he lacks that permission in 'BASE0+getpath(data_record_id),' which I presume evaluates to the current folder? Each user has a local role of Manager in his/her own folder, which I thought is what the current folder would be. I stress that this arrangement was working until the magical voodoo of software "spontaneous degradation" took place. Anyway, users can't change their file properties, which they have to do. I have checked the permissions for the broken accounts compared to the working accounts and can visually find no difference, but obviously there has to be something I'm missing. Any suggestions? Reindex_object problem

I'm having trouble getting reindex_object to work inside an external method. I suspect my syntax is flawed. What I'm doing is instantiating a Catalog-aware ZClass and then attaching properties to it. I know I need to reindex after I've added properties, but it doesn't like it in the external method. (I have been able to reindex with a separate piece of DTML, but that's not ideal!) Add properties to ZClass instance?

I've got a ZClass to which I'd like to add (variable) properties when the instance is created. I made a "Basic" propertysheet and tried "manage_addProperty" but Zope reports that properties cannot be added. I can add properties to DTML Documents. Can you construct a ZClass such that you can add properties to an instance, both via management screens and programatically? Thanks. -P -- Technology Concepts & Design, Inc.
