Upgrading 2.0 to 2.3

I have a site running on 2.0.1. I would like to upgrade to 2.3.x. I have searched for a how-to on upgrading, but I can't find it. I have not been reading the list closely lately, but I did see a comment about exporting products from the old installation and then importing them to the new installation. Is there anything that has to be done with Data.fs? Should I export the top level folders and objects and import them into the new installation as well? A pointer to a step by step guide would be greatly appreciated. Al

Alternative management interface

Even more urgent: (almost cry for help :-( ) Please, could anybody give me a piece of advice on the topic: I need to create an alternative management interface for my Site in order my site administrators to be able to manage the site in a special way. Where should I place all my administrative .py modules & dtml docs in order for them to work the same way as native Zope management tools ? Thanks in advance for my salvation, Anton.

Acquisition

Hi, i'm very confused about how acquisition works. I want to build an database-aplication with an scheme like that: In the rootfolder is a DTML-Object called Browser. This on calls an DTML-Object view, which handels the database-tabel-view. In ever subfolder there is a special view-Object. /Browser { <dtml-var view> } /tabel1/view{view definition} /index_html {<dtml-var Browser>} /tabel2/view{view definition} /index_html{<dtml-var Browser>} .... Calling /Browser/tabel2/index_html calls not /Browser/table2/view because, i think, acquisition looks in the current folder and downwards, BUT not in the calling folder. Where is my failure? Is there another (better) way to do it? with regards Axel

Hi everybody, I am happy to announce ZopeMake 1.0, a couple of utilities to perform the upload/download of .zexp files without passing through the import/export interface. Instead, it uses the ZClient to perform directly the interaction with Zope. ZopeMake include two utilities, one for the upload and one for the download of files. You can include the utilities in a make dist/make install file, so that you can use the classic "make install" to perform an installation. The product has been created by Tommaso Cucinotta (t.cucinotta(a)sssup.it) following a suggestion of mine. Please send technical question directly to him. Couple PerfectTracker and Zope?

On our Intranet we use Avensoft Perfect Tracker (http://www.avensoft.com/) for incident tracking, such as IT HelpDesk requests, new-hire set-up requests, purchase requisition tracking, etc. I'm starting to develop a Zope class that makes it easy for other Zope applications to initiate and track incidents thru Perfect Tracker (PT), using email and possibly RPC as the interface. The class would, of course, hide the email-, RPC-, and PT-specific stuff from the application. I guess you could think of it as an async tracker adaptor. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I just have to ask: Is anyone doing anything similar? Is anyone interested in seeing this developed into a Zope product? Here's how the product might be used: Let's say, an applicant accepts an employment offer. The HR department sets up a new employee record, including start date, using a Zope-based form application. Zope then sends an email to the facility manager asking for an office assignment. When the facility manager assigns an office, Zope sends an email to the new-hire's manager, telling him to visit the Intranet and fill in the new-hire's computer and office requirements. When the manager has done so, Zope initiates two incidents in PT, one for the IT department and one for the facilies department, sending the manager's inputs as attachments. When these incidents are resolved and the resolution message is sent back to Zope, Zope sends an email to the manager saying all is ready for the new employee. If any incident hasn't been resolved before the new-hire's start date, Zope send emails to the appropiate parties (and to PT) escalating the incidents. Why not ZTracker? PerfectTracker is already entrenched. -- Loren

I'm not sure I fully understand what Python Script's container and context refer to. Can someone help me out? As near as I can tell: container=self or the folder one is contained in context=the under namespace (_), including REQUEST and the namespaces of all parent folders? -- Ed Goppelt

Is localhost defined on your machine? It should be in the hosts file as 127.0.0.1 Verify that "ping localhost" works. Try entering your current IP address instead of "localhost" Also if you are using IE you must put the http:// part on the URL or it will not understand the line when a port is specified.
