Earlier questions (-> searchablge mailing list archives, Google) had the data in an external database and wanted to use the tree command to present a hierarchical view on these data. When I skimmed your message, I had the impression, that your problem was the same as the others, I had seen and responded with the Z SQL advice. But the Z Catalog is very similar to a Z SQL method (both implement the "Searchable" interface). The "tree" command requires a "branches" method or a "branches_expr" that return a list of children if applied/evaluated in a parents content. Thus, you must define such a (probably) "branches_expr". Your "branches_expr" will probably ask the Z Catalog for the children of the current node, something like: branches_expr="MyCatalog(parentId=getId())" This assumes, that each child has an attribute (or parameter less method) that returns the id of its parent. It assumes further, that this attribute is indexed. Dieter

Yes. ZopeMake uses ZClient to allow commandline scripting of imports and exports, but cannot import .zexp files that are not on the file system. I've been thinking about 2 of Zope's "problems" (security features) lately and I've almost hit some solutions. <Ask DC to turn a deaf ear> I wonder (I haven't looked) how difficult it would be to patch zope so it can import .zexp files that are already in ZODB, so that I can manage_addFile a .zexp file and then manage_importObjectFromZODB. I was thinking about using LocalFS for this, but I don't think LFS is deployed far and wide enough for this. Then again, if we get a solution for this, more people might use LocalFS. I might try to write the code if it sounds doable. It might be nice. Problems with *BIG* SQL queries

I've got some problems performing and returning some large SQL queries in our Zope app. The queries are reasonably quick if done straight to the SQL server, and return about 3000 to 5000 rows - the resulting HTML (generated with a dtml-in over the results) is about 600-900kbytes. But, the queries seem to take a *long* time - Zope is spinning at about 60% CPU in the thread responsible for sending the HTTP request back. Why? I've just timed it at 1:30 for 3914 rows and 586kb of HTML. The *really* odd thing is that using "test" on the same SQL query from the management interface, it takes about 10 seconds. Now, admittedly it only shows 50 rows, but surely it can't be the batching? And no, I don't want to batch the results up. Any ideas? Is it just the dtml processing that's slowing it down? If so, how can I speed it up (PythonScript to generate the HTML?) Any advice appreciated... [newbie]selectivity?

Hiya, I'm looking into installing Zope just to play around with it (before I decide if I want to use it or not.) a) Can I use it selectivly? So that I can use it only for one directory tree and use plain Apache for others? b) Can I use PHP with it? I know a lot of people think it is better than PHP, but I have a lot of pages already written in PHP... Thanks! Dave

Zope & SSL on Cobalt RAQ3, how to do it.

A while ago I posted a message asking how. Now I am posting a message saying how so that anyone searching through the archives will find it. I've used some information from the Howtos on the Zope site and adapted it to be RAQ3 specific. There is no need to re-compile Apache on the RAQ3 unless you are a glutten for punishment. First install Zope and get it running on it's default port of 8080. You probably want a start up script for init.d so here is one included at the end of this post. I installed Zope as user "zope" in /home/zope and created a special start script called "startd" for the init.d script to call which is as follows... #! /bin/sh reldir=`dirname $0` PYTHONHOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export PYTHONHOME exec /home/zope/zope/bin/python \ $PYTHONHOME/z2.py \ -D "$@" \ -u zope & This starts Zope as user "zope" when called by root. When Zope is up and running and starts and stops OK we need to get it SSLed through Apache. Make sure that SSL is enabled in the Server/Site management for the domain you are intending to Zopify. Next we need to add the following lines to /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf at the following point of the file... # Proxy Server directives. Uncomment the following line to # enable the proxy server: #Turn Proxy on ProxyRequests On <Directory proxy:*> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> #Direct proxy to Zope ProxyPass /Zope http://www.yourdomain.org:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope http://www.yourdomain.org:8080/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://www.yourdomain.org:8080/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://www.yourdomain.org:8080/p_ ProxyVia on # To enable the cache as well, edit and uncomment the following lines: We now need to restart Apache to recognize the changes with /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart. I did not add the Proxy directives to the Virtual Host section becuase this section of the httpd.conf file is overwritten by a bunch of Perl scripts whenever you make any changes to the site. I don't mind having a /Zope directory added to all the sites as it is highly unlikely anyone will need a /Zope directory for anything else. Next, Zope must allow for all the /Zope being added to everything. Go into Zope on port 8080 and create a SiteRoot object called SiteRoot. SiteRoot is now part of the Zope distribution and there is no need to download it all over again. Enter the following information... ID : SiteRoot Tite: The base path for BK Zope with SSL Base : https://www.yourdomain.org Path : /Zope/ You should now find Zope completely unusable on port 8080 but magically wonderful on ports 80 and 443. Notice we set the base to https, not http. This forces any links in Zope to use SSL. If you completely mess up your SiteRoot in Zope and you need to rescue it you will need this magic URL... http://www.yourdomain.org:8080/__no_before_traverse__/SiteRoot/manage_main This got me out of a few jams. Keep track of language.

Hallo all, i would like to create a homepage which have two languages. If I put the language flags in the menu, how can I keep track the language and check which language is selected? Thank you!! :-) pattreea.
