hi. request for enlightenment ;) (or some zen) is there any other way of creating the mount point for an ExternalMount, apart from the python incantation mentioned in Randy's ZEO-Session How-To? also, say i have a few ZEO Clients, all in different machines. i assume i just mount the External Mount on one ZC, and have the External Method available in all ZCs. pls correct me if i'm wrong if i the use Berkeley storage for the External Mount, i will not get Conflict Error, competing writes anyloonger .. right? dazed and confused thanks -- http://www.kedai.com.my/kk http://www.kedai.com.my/eZine Get the tables!

Zope lockup - thread exited without releasing global lock?

More info on my periodic Zope 2.2.2 lockup (RH7 running Zope supplied Python with gvib) using gdb, all of the zope threads are waiting to acquire the global lock, except for two threads. The first thread is waiting for a pid to finish (in waitpid) (must be the process manager) The other thread always seems to be something like this: (gdb) where #0 0x4008de75 in __sigsuspend (set=0x8695104) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigsuspend.c:45 #1 0x400347e9 in __pthread_wait_for_restart_signal (self=0x4003e360) at pthread.c:901 #2 0x40036ad9 in __pthread_alt_lock (lock=0x40183720, self=0x0) at restart.h:34 #3 0x40032b26 in __pthread_mutex_lock (mutex=0x40183710) at mutex.c:120 #4 0x400dee48 in __libc_free (mem=0x86e0488) at malloc.c:3052 #5 0x4003234b in pthread_exited (pid=20510) at manager.c:707 #6 0x40032709 in pthread_reap_children () at manager.c:787 #7 0x40031a28 in __pthread_manager (arg=0x13) at manager.c:158 Note that in this case, the current pid is 20509. I see pthread_exited(pid=20510) Does this mean that 20510 quit, and 20590 was waiting on it? In any case, I suspect that the thread is somehow exit'ing without releasing the global lock, but I can't really be entirely sure. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can track this down? convert dtml doc to dtml method

Because I'm newish to Zope, I still find myself converting dtml docs and methods back and forth as I realize what I'm doing with each object. Is there a simple way to do this (other than creating a new object, then copying the contents of the old one, then deleting the old, then renaming the new one?) -Don

"static" includes

Hello, is there a way to include DTML files in a "static" way, i.e. preserving the same namespace the including DTML doc has. If you know what JSP does, this is including static (<%@include ..%>) vs. dynamic (<jsp:include ..>). In the first case the file is included before compiling, that means it is essentially just a simple text replacement or macro expansion. This would make breaking down my DTML documents to smaller parts easier, with the dynamic (that means <dtml-var ..> ??) way I'd need to change all variable references .. thanks --Oliver

[ANNOUNCEMENT]: New documentation

Hey folks, As I dropped earlier before the conference, I was going to make a number of important announcements. Well, for those of you who could not attend, here they are, as well as some other information that should be of interest to you. First off, as many of you know, New Riders is now publishing The Zope Book. The upshot of this is that the book is now under the Open Publication License (http://opencontent.org/openpub) The book has a new home at SourceForge, and you can go there and check the book out of CVS, add patches, bug reports, and request features. http://sourceforge.net/projects/zope-book/ And now for the *new* news, DC has commited to create a Zope Developer's Guide. This will be the authoritative text on building Zope components. It will cover Interfaces, Components, Persistence, Product Development, Security, Publishing, Debugging, and Testing. Its home is also at SourceForge, and it is also under the OPL. http://sourceforge.net/projects/zope-devel/ And last, but not least, we are writing yet another guide for you, the Zope Administrator's Guide. This guide will cover installation, building, clustering, database troubleshooting and repair, and many other very useful bits of information. Details are the same, SourceForge and OPL. http://sourceforge.net/projects/zope-admin/ As you can see, DC is commiting itself to providing full documentation coverage of all aspects of Zope: using, developing, and administerating. Please visit these projects and tell us what you think. The Zope Book is in its final stages of development, and the dev and admin guides are in their planning stages, so there's still a lot of work to be done. Finally, I'd like to mention that we have decided to start a weekly 'Featured Interface' article to be published in a as yet undetermined online publication, and Zope.org. This weekly article will feature one interface out of Zope, and prose and examples explaining the interface and how it can be used to complete useful projects. These articles will be oriented to be a very useful resource in conjunction with the upcomming dev guide, and will eventually be compiled into an upcomming, comprehensive interface reference for Zope. Well, that's it! (as if that's not enough ;). Stay tuned, and definately give us a hand if you feel the itch to help, we could use it. As you already heard, you are not restricted by Zope security in ExternalMethods. Did you start Zope as "root"? In this case, it will switch to the user specified at installation immediately after it had bound the ports. If you did not specify anything, it will switch to the user "nobody". Maybe, the user switched to does not have permissions to access the external files. Dieter
