I noticed that the LoginManager supports Basic Auth Login, Basic Cookie Login and REMOTE_USER login by default. Does that mean that if I don't use cookies, and I want a form-based login, LoginManager will not work for me?

It will not work in DTML, but in an external Python Method: you take your DTML string (stored in the database) and create a document template object from it. You then render (call) this object. For how, you do all that, you should look at the "DocumentTemplate" package in your Zope distribution. Most relevant "DT_String.py" and "DT_HTML.py". Dieter

How to get the url without the domain part, using <dtml-in>?

Is it possible to return the absolute url without the domain/IP part, while in an iteration? With absolute_url I get this: http://100.0.0.1/folder0/folder1/folder2/current_object , and instead I'd like to have this: /folder0/folder1/folder2/current_object I tried the BASEPATH special variable, but it seems that it doesn't work within <dtml-in>. The other downside is that it needs an argument to get to know the nesting level of the object. Has anyone found a workaround? Thanks in advance, Ausum

Dynamic sorting in <dtml-in>

I feel like this should be easy, but I'm scratching my head try to remember if I've seen an easy solution. I'm doing a standard objectValues dtml-in: <dtml-in objectValues> <dtml-var xxxxx> </dtml-in> But I want to sort it by the attribute that is passed in the URL. I looked at the DTML source of the Zope site (where they do this), but didn't see how their sort_on was being used. Of course, I could do this as a python script, etc.--but is there a Q&D DTML way? Strategies for building ZPatterns applications as python Products?

Hi, I'm thinking about migrating my ZPatterns-based application, which is currently built from standard Zope components, into a python Product. I'm looking for ideas on the best way to organize the application. I'm not trying to build a general-purpose application that can be instantiated easily, but I do need to consider reusing the application in the future, which will require customizing features, UI, etc. My main confusing is whether I should put everything in the python product, or also have methods in the application instance. Putting some methods (especially UI) in the instance will make it easier to customize, but then large pieces of the application are out of the product and I lose the advantages that made me want to use a product in the first place. OTOH, keeping everything in the product requires creating a new, modified product every time I need a new instance with different UI or features (this might not be so bad considering that it does not get instantiated very often, and that a lot of customizing work is expected anyway - but it would make it hard to merge in code updates that are relevant to all instances). Also, when the app is built as a product it will define its own DataSkin classes, so ZClasses will not be used at all - but then there's no place for customizable object methods. Another issue is that for the product to provide all the code I need to create my own Racks - every Rack in the application has to be a separate class which adds methods and SkinScripts specific to that Rack. And every Specialist needs a customized Racks management form that allows for adding the appropriate Racks for that Specialist. This seems like a huge amount of work compared to managing a standard objects and ZClasses application. I'd appreciate any suggestions or description of how people are dealing with these decisions. PythonScripts bypasses LoginManager validation

In Zope 2.3.1b1, it seems that PythonScripts can cause basic HTML validation, even in the context of LoginManager. My test situation is like this, in terms of Zope folders and objects: test_folder/ acl_users (Login Manager)/ script1 (a Python Script) restricted (a DTML Method) 'script1' calls 'restricted'. This works fine as Anonymous if 'restricted' has View permission for Anonymous. But if I disable View permission for Anonymous on 'restricted' and then access 'script1', I get a browser-generated Basic HTML authorization dialog, rather than the LoginManager login window (which works fine in other cases). So, this is a bug in PythonScripts, right? Shouldn't it do authentication and authorization using the controlling acl_users, LoginManager in this case, rather than causing Basic Authorization to occur? ANNOUNCE: Dtml-Contract 2nd try

i was trying to demonstrate dtml-contract today (@ipc9) when i realized my release yesterday was broken because of a last minute change... so here's my second attempt. http://www.zope.org/Members/k_vertigo/ZopeProducts/PageContract and the changelog second public release 3/7/01: - fixed idiotic last minute change to last release, which prevented error handlers from working, doh:( - fixed broken installation because of... of ... a tab error.... - after a brief talk with jim fulton at ipc9 i realized that despite my informal tests that closing the response seemed to stop processing, the only way to be sure to stop it is to raise an error. dtml-return defines an undocumented error class which is handled specially and is appropiate for this use. thanks jim. - set content-type on response to text/html (later versions will have a tag option) this prevented some browsers (at least on kde's konqueror) from always rendering properly. kapil thangavelu

According to old mailing list archives, <dtml-raise type="Redirect"> should tell the browser to, well, redirect.
