Hi all, I need the Zen of the list here, before I go off and implement something weird wild and wacky. I have a lot of authenticated users (1200 staff, 14000 students). The staff are associated with a department. There are 85 departments, each with a code (eg 1550 = Medical Faculty) I want all authenticated staff to be able to add entries to a database. I want some staff to be able to act as 'Editors', that is, allow the database entries to be displayed. Thing is I *don't* want staff from dept 'a' to be able to act as editors for dept 'b'. We currently use UserDB to do our cookie based authentication. My first thought was to create 85 folders, with ids '1550', '1099' etc and install a UserDB into each one of them. Each one of the folders has a property 'dept', that is the value of the dept code (eg 1550). I then do a ZSQL query something like Select username, password, roles, domains from password, dept_code from departments where username = <dtml-sqlvar username type=string> and dept_code = <dtml-sqlvar dept type=string> Does this sound sensible to people? Does anyone have a better idea! :) (please don't say I need to use CMF - I'm tracking that list, but I can't figure out how to extract the various parts of CMF (reviewers etc) to use in my situation). No, don't make it an open ZWiki. Take responsibility of it (lock it) and let logged in Zope Members add comments at the bottom of the page. If I ask you: "What is your little text about?" What would you answer then? I meant that it isn't very clear what it's about or it's purpose. Why have you written it and what do you aim to conclude? Perhaps you should more precisly decide where you want to pour the cement before we start reshaping it (with comments) when it has dried in the wrong place :) You mentioned CMF, not a product, but a framework. I see that more and more products tend to store their "data" part in Python and "view" part in templates of some kind. That way you can use the "data" part as framework and rewrite the "view" part yourself for your own needs. And that's a very very big step in the right direction I reckon. Take care, Peter PS. Hey Guys: I have instances of a zclass from a product of meta type 'story'. I these instances have a property of type text. I am attempting to update the 'story_title' property of this object. These objects are stored in the folder 'entries'. I am passing story_id and story title from a form to a dtml method. Here is the code for the dtml method. I get no errors. Zope won't start

I am not sure if this is a simple problem or not. I am using FreeBSD 4.0 Stable and I just downloaded zope-2.3.2-src. Help on downloading data to a file

I want to download generated data to a file on the users computer when they press a button. The button will call a python script which will generate the data. I'm not sure how to get the browser to bring up a download dialog and not just display the data. I am trying this. data = 'This is the data that is generated.' context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'application/data') context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Length', len(printed)) context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Disposition', 'inline;filename=Data.dat') return data This display the data in the browser, but doesn't download it. More weirdness: this works on my Debian/Intel (unstable) box (PIII/SMP) with the same version of Zope; libc6 version and zope versions are the same version number. But it still won't work on my Sun E450 running Debian/Sparc testing... I'm wondering if this is a platform issue (i.e. endian issues???), or might it be something else? ZBabel Issues

With apologies, as the above message squeeked out befor completing it. ______ Starting out with ZBabel to translate a test page and ran into some issues. (nubie alert). Intend is to create a dual language en/fr site. The latest ZBabel's readme indicates the presence of a ZBabel.sql file to setup MySQL. This file was only found in ver. 0.0.3 and not present in the current release. Ok installed that .sql file then installed and tested ZMySQL adapter and installed ZBabel tower in Zope232/python1.5 Creating a very simple test page and including the <dtm-babel> tags as described results in the following errors. 1. eg: Test Page id=testpage Title=Test English Page <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-babel src=en dist=fr literal='1'> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <p> This is the <dtml-var id> Document. </p> </dtml-babel> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> 2. Error Messages from ZBabelTower when translating the page from en to fr=> Error Type: OperationalError Error Value: (1064, "You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'SELECT md5hash\012 FROM phrases\012 WHERE lang='fr' )\012 AND lang = 'en' ; ' at line 4") Further: the lables and initTables/View tabs from the management interface generate errors as well when viewed.
