ZBabel Issues

Starting out with ZBabel to tranlate a test site and ran into some issues. (nubie alert). The latest ZBabel's readme indicates the presence of a ZBabel.sql file to setup MySQL. This file was only found in ver. 0.0.3 and not present in the current release. Ok installed that..and installed ZBabel tower in Zope232/python1.5 Creating a very simple test page an including the <dtm-var> tags as described results in the following errors. 1. ZEO start.py fails to start ZSS on Debian...

I am running Debian testing (SPARC) with the 2.3.2-2 Zope deb, trying to install ZEO, and am hung up on the storage server install becuase, even in the simplest of cases, I cannot get lib/python/ZEO/start.py to do anything... I get the same issue with ZEO 1.0b1 and 1.0b3. There are a bunch of try: ... except: pass statements in the start.py code, and I'm sure I'm getting hit with one of them; it's too bad there are not more debugging messages in there... Since there are no tracebacks, below is the best I have (a shell transcript) Under Debian, Zope is installed at /usr/lib/zope as a program root (and thus ZEO, unpacked here, with ZEO1.0b3/ZEO copied to lib/python, so that there is a lib/python/ZEO). /var/lib/zope is the instance home and contains a var (/var/lib/zope/var) directory with Data.fs, log, and pid files. Any help/thoughts would be appreciated... Building Special Document Classes

At the risk of asking a stupid question or what must seem obvious ... it no longer is to me. My current project requires that I create different document classes. I need for them to be CatalogAware, editable through the management interface and fully renderable. I have been able to create a structured document ZClass, but I have not been able to create an HTML document ZClass that is both CatalogAware and renderable. If I create a ZClass that is based on CatalogAware and DTMLDocument, use the default manage_main method for the Edit View, the instance is rendered properly but the Catalog is not updated (as I would expect). If I create my own method (to kick-off the reindex_object method) and hook it to the Edit View, I can update the Catalog but the document instance is no longer renderable (I get a file download dialog). My first attempt at the HTML document class was just to use CatalogAware as my base class and hand build my constructors and class methods. I ended up with a document class that was CatalogAware and renderable, however the HTML tags were wrapped in brackets when viewed. So obviously the DTMLDocument class tells the ZPublisher to render it as HTML. This detail is not obvious to me - looking at the code. I know that there is an HTMLDocument product available but it was not designed to allow editing/composing TTW, only file upload. I have read the new Zope Book, all the How-To's, tried to read the code, but nothing that I have seen explains what I am doing wrong. This is a very fundamental aspect of Zope that I need to get past and should be able to get from the available literature. Anyone have any insight - thoughts - experiences - pointers - directions ... Complicated mix of http, https, and ProxyPass

I'm having quite the issue right now and am wondering if there is a workaround for it. (let me know if i'm posting to the wrong place) Basically my setup is as follows: I have apache 1.3.19/mod_ssl running with ProxyPass setup for /Zope to "localhost:9080.." I want, however, */manage to always go over SSL. I already have it setup to block non-ssl attempts to */manage with FilesMatch rules in apache. I don't want the rest of the site to go require SSL, but the only way, apparently to have */manage use SSL is to have a siteroot object with the base set to https. This makes every link that uses that dtml variable use https. Is there any way I could only have admin interface require SSL? Without having the rest of the site do so? I tried: def image(self): """ Return image """ return ImageFile('www/myimage.gif', globals()) Does'nt work either. I looked at the mailing list archives, with no clear response. HELP:Z Class subobject problem

I am new to Zope and I have created a Z class that will contain database connection objects and Z SQL methods. I used the web interface to create a product and a z class that inherits ZObjectManager. Then in the subojects view I selected the database connection objects that I want to be able to add to the object and leave the 'objects should appear in folder list' checkbox checked. The problem is when I create an instance of the Z class and try to add a database connection from the list of items(right now there is PoPy and ZGadfly in the list) to the instance. It creates the connection object, but it puts it in the parent folder (folder containing the Z class instead) of the Z class. What am I doing wrong here? regards, Eugene

Why not try a try/except statement, instead of an if/else... unless someone knows of another way to do this... Zope success-stories -- why you used Zope?

Hi all, I just a moment ago sent a bunch of questions and here are couple of more, but about different subject. I am doing development of two intranets at the moment, and the development along some other work is going to be my thesis to Espoo-Vantaa institute of technology. I would like to know about other peoples successes with Zope and reasons to choose Zope as the development platform, possibly even later on to intervue by email or irc about this issue -- so that I could write with broader view about choosing Zope. For me and a assume most of the staff at our institute Zope is not that familiar and therefore it would be cool to include also notes from other developers why they started development with this tool and not with Perl, php, Coldfusion, Webobjects or some other application server. For me the reasons to use zope were quite clear: easy, powerfull, open source and even though documentation is hard ( compared to php ) and Python was not familiar, learning curve has been amazing. For me it really seems that Zope rocks! -huima
