Best practice to keep userinfo in MySql, session management and per-user data?

First of all I have to say WOW. Thank you guys at Digicool for creating amazing toll like Zope, and thank you people for writing nice howto's to help newbies. I started working with Zope about three weeks ago and now I am building two intranets and clients website with Zope. Here are some questions that I would like to get answered. 1. Userdata ( passwords, roles , etc. ) in database MySqlUserFolder seems to be a product that has been recently updated and under development. Has anyone stumbled into problems with this product, and/or is there some other product that I should be using? LoginManager, UserDB-folder? Comments truly appreciated, since I need solutions quite fast and would not like to waste time in too many unnecessary efforts. 2. Session management and storing user-data While doing development with PHP I got used to the sessions, which were done quite nicely in php4 - meaning support for cookies and url-rewrite. I noticed that there is development in Zope also to support sessions, but reading documents is quite confusing and finding the latest status of development is hard. It seems that cookie-support is ok, but is there yet URL-rewrite - and will there be one? What is the best way to start using session-management now? It seems that also mysqluser-folder has some sort of session management. What is the best practise to start development - and what will the development of session management be in future? What is the best way to store data about the user in Zope, meaning about preferences user has, likes and dislikes etc. I know this could be done with relational database or creating an object for each user - and keep info in attributes etc. Once again -- help needed to get me on my way. 3. Multilanguage sites / products zzLocal seems to atleast one tool to do this. What is the best practise to start developing multilanguage sites and products? 4. Smb-userfolder Sound cool, has anyone this on production use? I'm not that familiar with windows-nt credentials, but I assume that these work only in NT and w2000? What I am trying to do is to run cool authentication for intranet, but our network has users with W2000, Linux and 98 machines. If anyone could pointout to a microsoft-link about this topic I would also appreciate. Well that was a bunch of questions for now. If you can help, thank you in advance! -huima

extracting a series of pages out of a Zope database?

I took down a machine (and reinstalled Linux from scratch) on a machine that had been running Zope. I need to extract a set of pages out of the database. ImageFile in python class

Thanks Marc for your response! But... There MUST be a better way to publish an image in a python class? How can I use the "image" property in my "index_html" dtml file??? I tried: <dtml-var image> give me a broken image. Then: <img src="<dtml-var absolute_url>/image> Broken image again... I looked at the code in OFS/misc_ , with no luck... Any help would be VERY appreciated... I'm stuck on this problem for _too_ long now... : / Thanks! J-F

CoreSessionTracking vs. SQLSession

For a brief period (a day), I had BOTH CoreSessionTracking and SQLSession maintaining session information. At random times, the CoreSessionTracking would totally lose ALL session data. SQLSession did not. This is CoreSessionTracking without any timeout set. My current understanding of this problem -- it does happen to others (not just me), but is very rare. The problem is not identified, is not reproducible by any digicool tests. I do have an environment which reproduces the problem within a short time, and would be glad to run any version of CoreSessionTracking that would help identify the problem. Currently I am running with SQLSession -- so far it has not had a single problem. Regards, JJ

Hi, is there any chance that the string in the management interface of your zclass, tab "Basic", field "Meta Type" is different from the "Add list Name" of your zclass's factory? If yes, correct that and I think it will work. Btw. does anybody know the exact meaning of these two zclass related properties? cheers, oliver

siteroot problem

I've used siteroot in the past, without any problems. With ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse, I was able to run my beautiful zope nicely behind Apache. Then I upgraded to zope 2.3.2 It almost works, but not quite. Unfortunately, some weeks before upgrading Zope, I upgraded Apache, so I no longer have my old directives to look at. Here's how I set them up: <IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyRequests On ProxyPass /Zope/ http://127.0.0.1:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /Zope/ http://127.0.0.1:8080/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://127.0.0.1:8080/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://127.0.0.1:8080/p_ </IfModule> and my siteroot base looks like this: http://127.0.0.1:8080/Zope It almost works. When I go to http://127.0.0.1/Zope/ I get the welcome screen, minus the logo at the bottom. Clicking on the management link, however, takes me to the usual management frameset, but all three documents come up with notfound errors. IOError

Hello, My Zope has given me "IO error" last few days. Here's a fragment from traceback: /---/ File D:\PROGRA~1\Intra\lib\python\tempfile.py, line 110, in mktemp File D:\PROGRA~1\Intra\lib\python\tempfile.py, line 68, in gettempdir /end/ As the disk where temporary files are to be put was full I set environment variables TEMP=D:\TEMP and TMP=D:\TEMP . Gettempdir suggests that it uses these variables. But no use. Any help would be helpful Platform is NT 4.0, Zope version is 2.3.2. Sven

Migrating to Zope, Getting files in and out of Zope

Hello, I'm currently working on a project to migrate a fairly large intranet webserver (apache on linux) to a zope webserver (linux redhat 7.1). Because a lot of the applications/files on the old intranet are used on a daily basis I can't make the migration in one weekend So I need to setup a new server which I use to test all the applications one at the time, before the old server can be taken down. There are a number of problems I encounter: The nicest thing would be to temporary syndicate the old website through Zope and proxy the old server through the new server. Every request to http://newserver/somefile.html will be handled by the new server which retrieves http://oldserver/somefile.html and wraps it into a standard_html_header and standard_html_footer and extracts title and keywords correctly. Unfortuately, I didn't get this to work properly with the Python httplib. (see http://www.zope.org/Members/cba/Get_External and http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-February/126090.html) Did anybody manage to get something like this working? I am now working on the final migration and I will use a copy script every night to copy all the files from the Apache server to the new Zope server. During the nightly copy I want all the binary files (gif/jpg/PDF/Word/Powerpoint and even WordPerfect-files) to be written in a seperate repository (available to Zope through LocalFS or ExtFile objects, see http://www.zope.org/Members/sabaini/externalfiles-howto) Has anybody done this before? Pittfalls I should look out for? Should I use LocalFS or ExtFile? I tried copying all the files in a number of ways (ftp, load_site.py and webdav (using a windows client and using cadaver)) but all options seem to have problems with filenames that contain spaces (I know, you shouldn't use filenames with spaces, but people did). I'll still have to try the suckfs-command from the ZShell Product. Does anybody now a way to solve this problem? Another problem: I can't copy filenames starting with an underscore. Fortunately they don't need to be copied (they are used for Frontpage Extentions on the old server). Are there any other things I should take into account when using filenames in Zope? (length of filenames/directory names, number of files in a directory, special characters, etc.). I'm planning of writing a how-to of all the pittfals I encountered, and describing the best way and possibilities of migrating to a Zope site. Any help would be appreciated. Pieter
