Newbie question: I'm trying to get a grip on Zope. I'm looking for a workgroup collaboration tool (forums, document management etc.). The problem I'm facing is: most users have their information in external documents like Microsoft Word or Excel document. These are not "understood" by the Zope object database I guess. So what is the best way to handle these? TIA Marcel

I've also been thinking about the possibility of a Groove-clone using Zope. Seems Jabber (www.jabber.org) might be a way to do this without trying to force Zope to do IM - i.e. Jabber handles the messaging, Zope handles the storage and replication. There's a mention of integration with Jabber in the Zope Book (Chapter 9??), but has anyone played with this any further? And does anyone know why the various python-jabber clients seem to have fallen by the wayside? :-) Cheers, Jon ------------------------------------------ On a related note (I think?), how hard would it be to build a Groove-like system with ZEO? I have never used Groove, but it sounds like a useful groupware tool for everyman. If the basis of Groove is incremental synchronisation of shared databases, then ZEO seems to offer similar functionality, especially if it encrypted the synchronisation protocol, which is what you, Chris, mentioned doing in a previous post. --- Alastair

Setting Up Zope to Run in Remote User Mode

I'm having some trouble with this issue, and was hoping my previous messages about setting passwords in Zope (Administrator) would have fixed this, but I'm not having much success. I am involved in setting up Zope and IIS on a machine that needs to have Remote User Mode enabled. In setting it up, it was made sure that 1) Anonymous access was turned on. 2) Windows NT Challenge/Response and Basic Authentication was turned off. 3) IIS's error notification facility was turned off. Then from the HOWTO at http://dev.zope.org/Members/jephte/HOWTO/IIS_and_Zope_in_REMOTE_USER_mode... I keep trying to set the password to blank by both methods of using zpasswd.py and editing the inituser file manually, but it really seems that Zope does not like that? Is there anything that I'm missing? Has anyone else out there had trouble with this? Stock User Folders - Who can add a user?

Question: Which permission is required to allow a person to add/change/delete items in the standard User Folder? Granting the manager role to a person seems to do the trick. However, I'd like to open the User Folder to "lesser admins" who do not need full manager rights, but do need to add folks and dole out roles. Thanks!! Dave

multiple sql updates and inserts

I, first, retrieve a list by: select * from inventory where inventory.past_group=<dtml-sqlvar inventory.past_group type=string> order by tattoo I also add a "checkbox" in the viewed table from the above method. Object does not support this operation

Hello everyone. I have a web page with a member base. When people wish to become "New" members, they mearly fill out the join form, and click ok. This goes into a folder called member_lists/profiles/ and clones a dtml-document called blank_sheet, and then modifies the properties of this clone to match the new information inputted by the user. However, when I submit the join (this had worked previously, but once we had updated the join form, it ceased working. On our other test page as well, which is strange since we didn't update that.) it gives me a "Object blank_sheet does not support this operation" error. The join form submits its data to submit_join, which does all the work. I also have a java script running for the fourm, which checks to make sure all the fields are filled in, but that is on join_form, not submit_join, so I don't think that's it (don't see why it would be either). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

[BUG] in manage_exportObject in OFS/ObjectManager.py

Hi, there's probably a bug in manage_exportObject: this method accepts a RESPONSE argument which default value is None, but at lines 515-517 there are the following lines: RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-type','application/data') RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Disposition', 'inline;filename=%s.%s' % (id, suffix)) These lines are executed when the user choose to download the file from the export object form in the ZMI, so in this case RESPONSE is set correctly and there's no problem. However, when calling manage_exportObject programmatically without sending a valid RESPONSE argument these two lines raise an exception because RESPONSE is None: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'None' object has no attribute 'setHeader' To see this error occur, just create a Python Script which contain the following line: context.manage_exportObject(id='Control_Panel', download=1) Click on the 'Test' tab, that's it ! Hi - Has anyone experimented with getting the ActiveImages product to work with the Opera web broswer? Or run into any other compatibility issues with the javascript AI uses in other browsers? Zserver stability problems

Hello, I'm running zope 2.3.0 (Red -Hat Linux) behind apache with mod_proxy (ProxyPass) and fastcgi . All requests are satisfied successfully by Zserver , however it seems that sometimes the zope listener has to be restarted , which is not good ! What I have observed in particular, was that both apache an zope are up and working fine! But suddenly, all the requests made through browser to the zope web site, become in a blank page, the browser takes a long time to load and it shows up the not found web page. What seems to me so strange is, when this happen, both listeners are up ( netstat -l ). Then I do a restart to the zope listener and all becomes fine again ! During last week this happened four times ! I have read the zope.org mailing list and saw that other persons have problems with Zope Server, but I haven't found any suitable solutions to this problem of Zserver stability. Do you guys have any hints about the reasons of this behaviour? What should it cause this unexpected problem ? Thank you all Best regards Nuno
