Possible: Saving and re-issuing the REQUEST?

Hi all, I have a question regarding Zope's REQUEST. I'm creating a main site that includes a drop-down menu generated by SQL data. On the same page - right above the drop-down menu - there's supposed to be a "Create new drop-down entry"-link which opens a small window via javascript. In this window the user can enter a new entry and insert it into the SQL Database. Additionally I would like a "REFRESH" button in this javascript window which would refresh the main site with the sql-generated drop-down menu to show the changes made in the sql-drop-down. This refreshing should be done with the original request which was used to call the main site at the beginning. Is this possible? Via javascript I can access the "main-site" via "top.". But I don't know how to the following: MAIN SITE is called with a REQUEST -> When "Create new drop-down entry" is clicked, SAVE REQUEST of MAIN SITE, PASS it to the javascript window -> If REFRESH-button is pushed in javascript window, PASS REQUEST back to MAIN SITE and REFRESH the main site along with the original request. How to caller acquisition path to an object through python script ?

Hi, I's not possible to expose my problem with a simple phrase. So I'll write down an example: I got a "main" DTML method that contains: -- DTML method "main" -- ... <dtml-var "getobject(somearg)"> ... --------------------------- "getobject" is a python script that finds a Zope object (DTML method or document) depending on "somearg". -- Python script "getobject" -- # find object depending on "somearg" ... return anobject(context) ----------------------------- OKAY, it runs but I want the object uses the acquisition path of the Folder that contains the "main" script. I need that the returned object uses the acquisition path of the "main" DMLT object. When used like this, if the returned object uses a reference to something that's in the "main" object's namespace, I got an error. Any clue ? TIA --Gilles

As it turns out the ordering of these classes seems to be the exact reason for my problems. I removed the simpleitem.item and the stuff mostly worked, but I could not see my image in the view tab of my image tab, as it returned a wrong path to the Image. I then inserted the SimpleItem.Item as below, and everything is dandy. My class declaration now looks like this:: class ots_laering(ObjectManager, SimpleItem.Item, ots_laeringLogic): and things behaves exactly as expected. It's a lovely day regards Max M

hi there, on the survey on digicool i added some ideas to make the first step into zope easier. i'd like to hear your ideas about that and if any of that is already acomplished somewhere. * a roundtrip visual-RAD-database form/reports environment (visual to source and back) (better than MS-Access and probably with import of forms/reports form theKompany-REKALL and MS Access or other forms/reports designers :-) * out of the box multi language and database support * a closed zope installation option. means zope does not use local python or so. i had heaps of trouble with different versions of python, python-database modules and db-connector products (i rather have two pythons on disc than troubles with zope after updating my suse distro) still not solved after 3 months :-(. actually this stopped development of a product on zope. * faster implementation of patches (there is one problem with dtml-in orphans trouble that got a patch about 6 months ago and is still not solved in new zope versions) * a setup process, where the newbee-user can select what products should be pre installed. (e.g. according to usage questions like news-discussion -> squishdot, db-mysql -> MySQLdb+formulator db-pgsql -> PgSQLdb+ZDatabaseTool+QueryWizard(hopefully to be released by easyleading), Content-management -> CMF, XML, Templates -> ZPT, PIM -> iuveno-projector+others, eks -> KDESoHoServer-Components, multi-language-mysql -> MySQLdb+ZBabel, documentation -> local-zope-book, faq -> local-faq) -- this would show the capabilities of zope right away to the newbee. i remember how it took me weeks to figure out what zope can do. -- this also would move some zope companies into focus to the newbee that might want to spend money and outsource development. -- zope would grow into a plug-and-play-intranet/internet problem solver application hope for opinions olaf -- soli-con Engineering Zanger Dipl.-Ing. Rich, Thanks a million for the positive comments. The site uses CSS in fact. It has problems on various browsers but I now have it working very stably and I'm happy with that. Perhaps I can capitalize on your comment and ask what people do for interbrowser CSSing. At the moment I am building a pre-render logic method that sets a browserlevel ID that changes the CSS depending on the browser type, but the incompatibilites are vast and not easily segregated. How does one make a few CSSs for all browsers? Or is the answer to NOT use CSS? anyone? ObjectManager problem

I am making a product that draws a graph in PIL and then saves the image as a GIF in a Zope ObjectManager. If the image doesn't exist it will be rendered and saved in the objectManager. When I run it the first time the image renders just nicely in a dmtl page. If I try to reload it, I get an error that says:: Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: The id "laeringsGraf" is invalid--it is already in use. ... File C:\zope23\lib\python\Products\ots_laering\ots_laeringLogic.py, line 207, in updateGraph (Object: laering) File C:\zope23\lib\python\Products\ots_laering\ots_laeringLogic.py, line 196, in _drawTriangle (Object: laering) File C:\zope23\lib\python\OFS\ObjectManager.py, line 272, in _setObject (Object: laering) File C:\zope23\lib\python\OFS\ObjectManager.py, line 147, in checkValidId (Object: laering) So it seems that the Image gets saved OK ... somewhere, but I cannot se the id via self.objectIds() which simply returns an empty tuple (). My object inherits ObjectManager, but it doesn't seem like the Image gets saved in it. I can see it in a dtml page like <dtml-var laeringsGraf> but apparantly it's saved somewhere else .... I'm completely baffled. I check for existance of the image like so:: def updateGraph(self): "Render graf if it doesn't exist" imageID = 'laeringsGraf' print 'objects:', self.objectIds() if imageID in self.objectIds(): # allready exists pass else: # doesnt exist, so render first time self._drawTriangle([150, 0, 0, 0], 10, 10) The following is the snippet of code that saves the image from PIL into the ObjectManager # save it in the ZODB outf = StringIO() im.save(outf, 'GIF') del im data = outf.getvalue() outf.close() imageID = 'laeringsGraf' self._setObject(imageID, OFS.Image.Image(imageID,'Lærings graf','')) self._getOb(imageID).update_data(data) Anybody's got a clue??? Insert file through ftp.

Can I insert a file throuht ftp and define its type or change it later? I made a product PrX ,with OFS.File and Catalog, and I want to put many files into my project and that its type to be of PrX. I think that the easiest way to do that is through ftp. There are 2005 files to insert with the meta_type of PrX, wouldn`t be possible to do one each time. dtml-tree: controlling expanded nodes

Is there any >>simple<< way to tell a DTML method with a tree tag to expand a node when it is called for the first time? This obviously meens to pass a tree-e parameter, but how to find out the correct value? I use the tree tag to show a list of folders and DTML documents in it and would like to pass the ids of folders to expand (one would be enough). Any hint appreciated, Markus Kemmerling

Python Scripts

Hi, How can we in the python script check if the a certain variable exists in the namespace? ie. We can get the value of a variable by using context.myvar or context['myvar'], but both will return an error when the myvar doesn't exists. Now, how can you check if it exists? I tried several things, like context.hasattr('myvar') or context.has_key('myvar') , _hasattr(), _.hasattr() ... etc, but none seem to work. Can somebody tell me if it even is possible? Thanks. Tom.
