Renaming folder slow...

I have a folder that contains a hierarchy that includes some code, and about 10,000 cataloged objects; renaming that folder is really slow; I'm just curious if anyone knows why? Does the id of the folder have to be re-keyed in all of its children? Hello All, I'm not sure you have a problem you can solve lasily here. Simplifying the problem immensely, if you have two one-to-one mappings, involving three completely disjoint orderable datatypes: A <-> B B <-> C and you want to produce a list of C in the order suggested by A, there are two reasonable ways of doing it: - merge then sort - get both lists sorted in B order (assumed free) - walk down finding B's that match (you can tell what to discard because it's less than the head of the other one) (linear) - sort on A (log-linear; not lazy) - sort then lookup - get the first list in A order (assumed free) - get the second list as a dictionary of B->C (assumed free) - walk the first list looking up C values in the second (log per lookup; log-linear in total; not lazy on B->C) If you want to do this in python, I think sort-then-lookup might be more natural, and that the small-code way of doing it might be: - make the lookup into a lambda function (see www.python.org) - map the lambda function down the A<->B list The key step in merge-then-sort is the merge. It would need about 10 lines of horrible ksh. I don't believe there's any natural way of doing it in python. HTH, J. Help needed in getting HierMenu to work

Hi Has anyone had success using the HierMenu listed at http://www.zope.org/Members/Ioan/ZHierMenus It seems to use the HierMenus at http://www.webreference.com/dhtml/hiermenus/ I would rather use this Javascript menu system using Zope in place of just putting the Javascript in the page and manually setting the menu. Maybe someone has got it working and I have missed something? I am using Zope 2.3.3 (binary release, python 1.5.2, linux2-x86) regards Greg

ZDebug 0.2 incompatible with Formulator 1.0

Just analysed a strange exception during form validation with Formulator: Zope reported a "TypeError: expected 3, got 2 arguments" from "ZDebug.DTMLDebug.py:184". This is in the middle of a call to "dtmlexc", no function call around. It turned out that: The problem was the creation of the exception object. ZDebug assumes that exceptions accept a single string argument, but "FormValidationError" wants 2 arguments. Attached is a patch trying to work around the problem: It raises the exception in a "try ... except". When this raises the expected exception, then it is reraised; otherwise, the original exception is raised (which is not so good as the ZDebug Message but better than nothing). Dieter

It's probably a good idea in the long run, in case they need to run more than one site from this machine, but is it required? FTP automangling file extension: semi-working proof-of-concept

Yesterday, I suggested that it might be helpful for FTP & WebDAV to return a pseudo-extension for the type of file being read so that non-Zope-saavy programs could more effectively work with Zope files. (Some programs, notably Dreamweaver and GoLive, refuse to work w/files w/o extensions.) When the file is later uploaded via FTP/WebDAV, the extension would be removed. I've tinkered ~30min with the source code and made two very trivial changes to produce a proof-of-concept. This does the following: 1) in FTP, all files are shown with ".foo" extension 2) when a file is rec'd, the ".foo" is stripped back off It's __far__ from a real implementation: the extensions would be sensitive to the type of file being edited; the ".foo" stripping code should check to see if this is a WebDAV/FTP transfer (right now it *always* strips the .foo off!), etc. However, even with this trivial patch, it works well enough to: 1) teach Dreamweaver that .foo files should be edited w/dreamweaver 2) through Zope, create a "test" DTML Document 3) in Dreamweaver+FTP, this test doc shows up as test.foo 4) this can be edited in Dreamweaver and saved 5) the changes appear as "test" in Zope. What I'd Like: Is this a fair idea? I doubt the fine folks at ZopeCorp will rush my three-line patch into the core ;-), but I'd would like to get the sense if I'm heading in a sane direction. Re: Is there a "Virtual Folder" Product??

Another thing: I'm using a breadcrumb system on my page that currently uses obj.absolute_url() to add the links. The absolute_url() that the Aims Document accessed via http://server/deutsch/research/Aims returns is still http://server/english/research/Aims (the physical place). Is there a way that I could change that? How would I resolve the url to take the MFolder Product into count? Thanks again, Philipp Robbel
