OK, after makign backups (of course!) .. I tried to upgrade from 2.3.2 to 2.4.0 by changing my pythonhome variable to the new source (love that INSTANCE_HOME!). It seems to be going mostly OK, except this problem: 2001-07-24T19:31:03 PROBLEM(100) Script (Python) Object "add_weeklyRep" needs to be recompiled. How in the world can I accomplish this?? Everything appears to work, but I would like this PROBLEM to go bye-bye. Bill Anderson (This address is not on the list, so a CC would be appreciated)

install problem mailing list?

Hi, I am running the latest FreeBSD4.3-STABLE and just installed the port of Zope. zope/Zope2.3.3 and zope/Hotfix_2001-05-01 I see it running by doing a "ps -ax", actually two copies, one as root and one as nobody: "/usr/loca/bin/python2.1 /usr/local/www/Zope/z2.py -D" First of all, I can find no docs on why two copies are running. Also, I get "Unable to connect..." to http://localhost:8080/manage. I thought Zope was supposed to run by itself, seperate of Apache? Just FYI, I killall httpd and restarted everything to see if Zope would run standalong without apache. I know that you guys are working on revamping the docs. It is greatly appreciated. In the meantime, is there an install problem list I can subscribe to? I can't find one. So should I post install problems here? Let me know what's up. Your whole organization's configuration is awefully confusing, not to mention the docs themselves. I hope you can understand my newbie frustration with your stuff and can provide a link to some info that could help me figure out why I followed the instructions, got Zope installed, but cannot connect to it to do anything with it. Any help appreciated for this lost zope soul. regards, Kris

Programatically set permissions and local access?

Is there a way programatically in DTML to set permissions of a Folder and to assign local users and roles? I looked through the Zope book and online help, but did not see anything that talked about setting local permissions on a Folder. Any help would be great. I hate counters...

...but I was loading a (really) old site which used them so I needed the functionality. Andym's FScounter has a good feature set but it was missing the ability to set the counter to an arbitrary value (to pick up from where the old site left off). So I modified andy's counter (http://www.zope.org/Members/bowerymarc/FScounter) to do that, and I included a default digit set, with a .zexp to make it easy to install.

Is My Installation Flawed?

Hi; I wrote the list earlier concerning this problem and didn't get an answer. That usually means it's a BIG problem and unique to my install and that nobody has any idea what to do without being on the system. I hope like heck it's not that bad. Here's the problem: For some reason I don't appear able to create user-defined roles at all! With regard to local roles, I'm able to create them, but they don't appear to have any effect. For example, if I create a local role for pnl as manager then change the *access content information* from the acquired setting to just manager and owner (as opposed to anonymous), then try to access the page, I discover that only user webmaster, the owner, is able to access the page. Nor can I change ownership! How should I begin trouble-shooting this? TIA, BenO

weird permission trouble on acl_users on 2.3.3

Hello, Some weird problem (reproductible) on acl_users. 1 - create a test role (TESTROLE) with ALL the permissions (equivalent to manager). 2 - Create a user on the root acl_users (called TEST with the TESTROLE). The symptom : A - log with MANAGER role, you have access to all acl_users tabs (including CONTENTS where you can add users) B - log as TEST with TESTROLE role, you have access to all acl_users tabs EXCLUDING CONTENTS and you can't add users) This is also true in acl_users folder within sub-folders. Done on a fresh 2.3.3 (and CookieCrumbler). Problem also on a 2.3.2. The Zope Book (in my hands) and StructedText

I got my copy of The Zope Book today and it looks good. Well, it looks like every other New Riders book, but that's good enough for me. Thank you Amos and Michel for driving this and of course thanks to everyone else involved. I'm particularly impressed that it was written in StructuredText (is it appropriate to call it STX?) and converted into the necessary formats for publishing. I had the opportunity the other day to suggest that someone use STX for their documentation project (which is much smaller than a book), but I couldn't convince them for several reasons. First, there is no STX module (that I know of) packaged outside of Zope and there appears to be a separate unsynchronized version in The Zope Book CVS. Are they the same and I just don't know it or are they in fact different versions? Also, short of pulling some scripts out of The Zope Book CVS, I don't know of any documentation or packaged tools for converting or otherwise processing STX (outside of Zope). I'm particularly interested in the possibility of converting to GNU info format and man pages, if that's even a reasonable thing to expect. I wouldn't be against writing converters myself if there isn't already another way. Are there plans to package STX as a separate module along with documentation and tools for converting to various popular formats? Thanks! _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc.

Oh, I was wrong, my code doesn't work as it's supposed to do. Right now it always displays the "This site is not available" message, even if there is a index.html in the subfolder :-( I can't think of a working solution, anyone able to help? Thanks again, Philipp

Hello, FYI, this was a bug WITHIN the ZClass product himself (i don't know how it's possible and what is the reason) because i've recreate the ZClass from scratch and the problem disapeared. May be some renames thru this ZClass life ? I created a seperate dtml-method with the content <content type: text/html> and included this method in my standard_html_header. Now it works.
