Errr. As author of the "ZMI Top Frame HTTPS reminder" aka Hotfix_TopFrameHttps, I'm not sure of the issue. The title of my err Monkey Patch isn't really confusing and it doesn't showup if you search ZOpe.org for "hotfix". Why should it be changed to MonkeyPatch_TopFrameHttps? Product Update Strategy

I have multiple installations of a TTW product that stores it data in the ZODB. I do not have direct access to all the installations and need to send clients an update script to update some of the methods accross all installations. I thought one way of doing it is to write a python script that imports the ZODB and upload method contents from files distributed with the script. Any other ideas? Roché

newbie-ish dmtl-in question

Hello everyone, I want to get a value from a form on one page to either a dtml-in variable or dtml-unless variable on another page, which I seem to be able to do, but for some reason I get no iteration. I'm able to send the variable over to the other page just fine, but neither the dtml-in nor the dtml-unless wants to do their thing. I'm using the Database connection examples from the Zope Book as my examples, but I'm clearly not doing something right... On the page where I get my value from a form is this: <form action="result-test" method="POST"> <input type="text" name="iterations:int"> <input type="submit" value="submit"> and on the page I'm going to, I have this: <dtml-in iterations> This is a test </dtml-in> So, when I test, this is the error I get. I don't know what it means, though... Error Type: TypeError Error Value: len() of unsized object How do I fix this? Thanks! Russell

a form, a script and the namespace: please help a newbie !

I _really_ need help on understanding why this does not work. What I'm trying to do: I want to change, from a python script called from a dtlm method, a class instance property value. The code I use: let 'description' be a property of the class instance foo; initially, suppose foo_instance.description='bar' DTML method fooEdit [...] <dtml-call normalize_default_values> <form ...> <textarea name="description"><dtml-var description></textarea> <input type="submit" ...> Python script normalize_defaul_values [...] description=context.description if description=='bar': description='' return context.REQUEST.set('description',description) What happens with this code: when I view foo_instance/foo_Edit, 'description' is always 'bar', not '' as I'd expect. Notes: If I insert a <dtml-var "REQUEST"> inside the foo.edit DTML method, the 'description' property is shown as having value '', as expected. I have also tried to add to the script "return context.manage_changeProperties({REQUEST['description']:description})", but the result is the same. If I use a new property name, for example new_description, everything works as expected. Questions: How can I change the _existing_ foo_instance.description property from a python script ? Obviously I am missing something important about namespaces: someone can, _please_, point me in the right direction ? TIA, --peppo

PCGI Error: (102) failure during connect to ZServer

I have installed Zope-2.1.2-5.i386.rpm and Zope-pcgi-2.1.2-5.i386.rpm on RedHat Linux When I try to invoke pcgi script from a web browser I get this: Temporarily Unavailable The resource you requested is temporarily unavailable - please try again later. C-Runtime errno: Connection refused PCGI Error: (102) failure during connect to ZServer Explanation: The PCGI-wrapper program, spawned by Apache to handle the HTTP request via the standard CGI protocol, is unable to connect to the ZServer background process via Unix socket /tmp/pcgitest.socket. I think it's a common problem, but I couldn't resolve it myself nor find any troubleshooting for this. What shall I do? The traceback you sent me, indicates that the zCommerce product is missing a dependency, called 'Session'. You may want to check the documentation for that Product (I am not familiar with it). You get the error because it is not installed. mysterious dataloss clues?

Hi there, I'm posting this in the hope someone will be able to help me with some mysterious data lossage we've been experiencing. I basically am completely clueless what could be the cause of this, so any hint would be useful. Some boring numbers first: We have an application running on Zope 2.3.0, connecting to Postgresql 7.0 using ZPoPyDA 1.2. The version of PoPy is 2.0.2. This is on Debian 2.2 (with some upgraded packages such as Postgresql). Now to the meat of the issue: For some reason, at random times, Postgresql seems to magically lose some records that were already there and should've been committed. This seems to happen within a few hours of the time the records were first created. All trace of the records disappears from the database; we can see the holes in the autoincrement primary key fields (and we never do any delete ourselves that could cause this). The lossage seems internally consistent; a bunch of records that's interrelated all disappears. The records disappearing are not all part of a single Zope transaction; instead there are bunch of ZSQL insert operations in a set of pages. It's just as if there's some kind of long running transaction that at some point magically expires. Very weird. We haven't been able to reproduce the problem; it just seems to happen. Vaguely associated with it is another, possibly related problem; occasionally Zope does not see a record with an id that is definitely in the database. After a few more tries, it works again. We haven't been able to confirm a firm temporal relationship between this problem and the one described, but it's possible one somehow affects the other. Is it possible that due to some strange interaction postgresql's transaction machinery ends up in some flakey state, so that something is never committed that really should be? I'm now trying to change all the tires and the engine as well; upgrading this and that to see if the problem will go away. But some clues in which direction I should search would be greatly appreciated. Anyone ever saw something like this? I really wish I could be more specific. :) Regards, Martijn
