I have an object with a built-in method (called "check_id") for determining whether the value from a retrieved object has the same id as one of the elements in the current object's lines property. What I want to do is make an edit form that has a <SELECT> element with a complete list of object id's of a given type (meta_type = 'Doctrine') and compare each of those id's to the id's stored in the current object's lines property. If there is a match, I want the <OPTION SELECTED> statement written. Otherwise, it would be simply <OBJECT>. Note, the Doctrine object has (of course) an id. The lines property has a list of id's that are subsets of the total number of Doctrine objects. zope as databasefrontend?

Hello, maybe I'm on the way against the zope internal philosophy ... We use a postgresql Database and MS Access :( as frontends. Now we would like to use zope as frontend and skip Access. The Access applications are quit simple but depents on a rather complex permission structure, realized in postgresql. Now to zope ----------- One way is to create a zope connection with the highest access permissions on the database. Now if a user logged in, a script checked out what the user is allowed to do (maybe with complex SQL statements and special database rows). :( In my opinion a better way would be: A user logged in and then the database connection would be established, with the username/password and of course the right database permissions. This connection should be open until the user logout. :) I haven't found any hind on this kind of connection. (Late database connection) In general, is it possible to do it? Must it realized it completely in a extra phyton script? (sounds complicated) Or is there maybe any example, which I had not found? o) Thank's for any help! best regards, Ralf Duda

I've created a form that allows users to create folders, however I need to assign permissions to the folders which match there roles. Also I'm using Zope 2.2.5 and need way to make form logins, can this be down? Thanks, Todd

Hi, I've followed the instructions at <http://www.zope.org/Members/dshaw/AdvancedSiteSetup> to set up a ZEO server and client (on the same machine). These instructions are very clear and I'd recommend them to people wanting to experiment with ZEO. We serve our content up through Apache (fast delivery of static content, CGI scripts and PHP4 served too). I'm using the VHM method of routing Apache requests through to my ZServer installation so (only a snippet shown, and this is an example); RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/cgi-bin - [L] RewriteRule ^/static - [L] RewriteRule ^/ltsn_images - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:18080/VirtualHostBase/http/myserver.ncl.ac.uk:80/VirtualHos tRoot/$1 [P] Following the instructions from Dave Shaws' page I have a ZEO server running on port 8080 and a client running on port 8081 One idea I've had from reading the Apache Rewrite rules page at <http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/rewriteguide.html> Is to use ProxyPassReverse (in some way), i.e. ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8081/ My question is this; What can I do to get requests from myserver.ncl.ac.uk farmed out to my ZEO server-client farm? Weird CatalogAware behavior re: metadata?

I have a python product that has a class derived from CatalogAware and SimpleItem. I programmatically add instances of these (1000s of them) on an automated basis every day in the early morning. My problem is that whenever I do this, the Catalog is updated with some problems: 1 - Metadata is skewed: DateTime objects are cataloged, and they end up with the wrong date ('2001/01/01') instead of today's date, even though the actual property. 2 - Text indexes only get a portion of their text stored in the metadata, not all of it. Using a bulk reindex solves this problem (subtransaction off, haven't tried it any other way). I'm using Zope 2.3.2 with ZEO 1.0b3. The automated process queries SQL for data, and uses those queries to create object instances of the previously mentioned catalog-aware class, and I create anywhere from 2000-7000 objects at a time. I'm not sure if this is due to the size of the transaction I am running. I haven't tried this in a smaller transaction yet; I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. Any thoughts? OSX users looking to test a Mac GUI for Zope?

I have been working on a Mac OS X package for Zope based off of the excellent binary distribution for MacOS X on zope.org. What makes mine different is (a) it includes ZEO, and (b) is has a native Mac GUI configuration tool front-end. Since the distribution includes a full copy of Zope and python, it's not small, so bear that in mind.

Hello again, Linux newbie problem resolved now (why are the Linux newbie books so silent about shell programming?) means I have successfully compiled gvibBase.so under Python 1.5.2. However this hasn't got me out of the woods yet, since Zope 2.4.1b uses Python2.1 and gvibBase.c code contains Py_Realloc which I think has become PyMem_Realloc. Unless somebody has already rewritten gvibBase.c to compile under Python 2.1 and would care to share it, I will Bash on and post the result when I am done. I have tryed to edit the Setup.in file to import /usr/lib/libgds.so instead of the more usual -lgds but it makes no difference. Can anybody help me out? I have also tryed kinterbasdb, but when I import it I get Import error: undefined symbol crypt I know I'm supposed to editing kinterbasdb's Makefile to include -lcrypt but I'm not sure where. gvib is my main priority, but a copy of an appropriate Makefile for kinterbasdb would also be much appreciated. Jargon: why not "coolfix" instead?
