The way we manage our non-zope internet site is to have three environments: dev, staging (quality) and production. Developers do unit development and testing on their own work stations, and migrate that to the development server to ensure everyone's code plays nice. Then a migration engineer moves that to staging at planned intervals. Staging is tested, and when all is good, staging is moved to production. That said, for our Intranet we'll probably just have developer workstations, an integration/staging/quality server, and production. The plan is when we go for a release, we'll freeze staging, have our developers work on their own boxes, then migrate to production. The reason is zope's versioning and ability to import/export portions of a site makes recovering from errors and duplicating environments (or just portions) really easy. Initially, I thought the Zope Version would be enough, do your work in a version, have the tester start working in the version when the developer was done, and then the tester saves the work when everything is good to go. Hi i'm new qith zope and i was trynig to study dtml with the dtml guide ,but i don'u understand when is necesary to use "_" and when"_." And i don't understan when : gatattr(O,name) do i have to type one attribute where is "attr"? and in O? and in name? Thanx

REQUEST problems

Hi All, I am reletively new to zope, and in particular to products, so please accept my appologies if I am asking silly questions. I have in fact nearly completed my first ever product. The product was developed on a installation of Zope 2.4.0 and is giving errors when used with Zope 2.3.2. The error only occours when a method of the product is called directly from the web. The error does not occour when a dtml method is called that contains a reference to a method of the product. The error itself is that it can not find the object AUTHENTICATED_USER. Printing out REQUEST confirms this. There is no AUTHENTICATED_USER. Again this only happens when calling a method of the product directly. e.g. browsing http://zope-site/product/method generates an error but http://zope-site/dtml_method does not, even when dtml_method contains <dtml-var expr="product.method(REQUEST)"> Is this some sort of bug that was fixed in Zope 2.4.0 or has the way things should be done changed between versions? tia.. Record a new user with python script

Hi, I got a "join" page where a new user creates its nick/password. A python script controls this and records if successful in acl_users of the current folder with "inscrit" local role. But there seems to be a problem with the password... because I can't read the page protected for the "inscrit" role using the newly created user. It works again when changing the password in the ZMI. Trees

I have a tree implented on a website and am trying to count the number of nodes or children each visible branch has without you actually having to open the branch.i would like to be able to show the number of documents the branch has underneath it.my problem is that when i search the catalog for say meta-type 'material',i get the same result on all the branches.this is because i cannot distinguish between 'material' that is a child of the branch,and material under all branches.the catalog has many indexes,one being the meta-type which refers to the type of document.i need a parameter in the catalog that will exclude children found that are not connected to the relevant branch.another way i thought of doing this would be to use the tree-level attribute.i am new to zope and dtml so any help would be greatly appreciated and please excuse me if i have not explained my problem properly,if anyone needs a point clarified ,i will do so. paul dunbar. _____________________________________ Get your free E-mail at http://www.ireland.com

DTML/python syntax problem

Hi all, I have to change the string contained in _['sequence-item'] by removing the character "*" at the end of the string. There should be a solution by using a combination of _.string.replace and _.string.strip, but I need a hint how to put them together. Thankx Andreas

Adding users via external database

This is my code for adding a ZClass to the ZUser folder product. I'm trying to walk through a recordset returned by CurrEmployees and add each one to the database. I can successfully add a user if I take all the database references out and plug in values manually, but when the <dtml-in CurrEmployees> tag is involved I get an attribute error. I'm afraid I've committed some sort of namespace goofup but I'm stuck. I know user_add works because I can plug in numbers, and I know I'm getting values because I print it out at the bottom. Current item in a dtml tree

How do I get the current object from a dtml tree? With dtml-in, I can use sequence-item, but that doesn't work with the tree. The situation is that I'm using an external method to return a list, and then I want to do certain actions with the current object in the list. Any ideas? newbie file upload question??

RESPONSE.write()

Hello again, Its gonna be a flurry from me today. I've successfully used the pragma alogn with RESPONSE.write() to stream a page to a browser.... I have two questions: 1) I haven't done more work outside of MSIE 6. Is this method of streaming working on all broswers? 2) It seems that if you write a page, you have to write 100% no less of the page otherwise the Wrtie() masks any normal html. Is there a way to do both? i.e Use RESPONSE-write() to immeditaley put up you interface, and then have the content come from normal html. Thanks Paz
