passing ZPublisher.HTTPRequest.FileUpload instance between forms

Hello to all, Is it possible to share a single instance of a ZPublisher.HTTPRequest.FileUpload object between different forms ? In other words: I have a file upload form where I load a file in the standard way whit a <input type="file" ...> I then process the file in an external method (for ex. I check for the file type, and if it is a PDF I use pdfinfo to extract the properties embedded in the file) I then call a second form which has some field eventually percompiled from the pdf properties returned from the external method This second form must upload the file (as an extDocument), without the need of another <input type="file" ...>? The above arrangement works only if I use a <input type="file" ...> in both form, which imply loading the file twice and having the users searching for the same file twice. Any suggestion ? I get an error when calling "parent.__init__(self)"

I have a class, which contains the logic of a product. class msgList: def __init__(self): self.msgDict = {} self._newId = 0 Then I have another class which takes care of the more Zope related tasks. class mxm_Discuss(SimpleItem.SimpleItem, msgList): def __init__(self, id, title): "Inits the product with default values" self.id = id self.title = title msgList.__init__(self) <-------- Line 22 But when I try to instantiate it in Zope I get an error: "Error Type: TypeError Error Value: unbound method __init__() must be called with instance as first argument" Usually this error comes when I forget 'self' in a method. I cannot see what causes it here though. Has anybody got a clue? lock entry while editing

Hi, I use the MetaPublisher-Product and have the problem, that if different users edit the same entry, there will be a conflict: the changes from one user will be overwritten by the second. Has anyone a solution to lock an entry until the edit-form is used by someone? Can Zope do this (like Versions) ? Michael

Great. Thanks! I will try your suggestions. For now I have just replaced the redirects with meta refresh tags in the same location. Works well so far, although I am sure it may cause some problems somewhere since it is not in the HEAD but in several places on the same page depending on where the logic stops. I should be able to try your full URL suggestion today. Do instead: RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.guugle.com/Allen/menu') ...or... RESPONSE.redirect(menu.absolute_url()) Again, don't ask me why but adding lock=1 as a parameter to the redirect() has helped me once or twice. I don't know how it works but it makes sure that after a success full redirect the addressbar shows what you expect it to show. Version Control Question

Hi guys, I posed this question to the fellows at NYZUG yesterday evening, and they suggested that I post it here, point blank. We want to use version control on our site. Without sparking a religious war, what do you recommend for syncing a development environment, a quality assurance environment, and a production environment? Is the built-in Zope Version package enough? Should we use that in conjunction with ZEO? Is ZEO on its own enough? Should we use CVS for Product maintainance? ZSyncer? Initially, I thought the Zope Version would be enough, do your work in a version, have the tester start working in the version when the developer was done, and then the tester saves the work when everything is good to go. I've been told (by non-Zopistas, and even anti-Zopers) that we need to have three environments. How would you go about implementing a system to please nervous project managers? cheers, ken

I would definitely use some sort of source control - CVS or Visual Source Safe (Microsoft). Keep as much of your code in the file system so you can use source control, or if you're on a unix type, try ZCVSMixin. It's on www.zope.org, and saves ZODB objects as XML in CVS. I don't know how it would integrate with ZEO, but I don't see it as being a problem. Also, since your developer base is a bit sketchy, document everything so it's easier to get up to speed, and you don't lose knowledge when someone leaves. You could even use zwiki or similar for your docs (it's fast and easy to use).
