New Medical/Healthcare Python/Zope user group - Zopymed

>From an idea on the Openhealth mailing list, we've setup a new user-group for Zope/Python users involved in the Medical/Healthcare fields (and surrounding fields, such as Education, Research, BioInformatics) ...or ZoPyMed for short! Just a mailing list so far - http://maillist.linuxmednews.org/mailman/listinfo/zopymed - but we can setup an associated website if there is sufficient interest. Short-term, the list is a place to ask questions and share ideas, code, tips and useful-links. Long-term, we might aim to create reusable components/functionality and promote interoperability between different applications. But the "agenda" is very fluid, and open to suggestions! So, if you're using Zope/Python and are involved in Medical/Health-related IT, please join up, introduce yourself, and tell us what you'd like to see from this group! Authentication with IE 6/7

Has anyone reported problems authenticating with Zope when using the version of Internet Explorer that comes with WinXP? One of my users (a computer literate one at that) cannot authenticate as an owner when using IE 7. I've tested the Zope site using Netscape 4.7 (in Linux/Windows), I.E. 4.x (Windows), Mozilla (0.9x in Linux), Galeon (Linux) and Konqueror (Linux). All without problems. I've recommended that she get Netscape, but I was wondering if anyone knew of something specific to tell the user to fix in order to remedy the problem. Thanks in advance, Ron

The python release fixed the ceval patch. It also fixed the Compiler stacksize bug, however Zope includes it's own copy of the Compiler code, and as of the current stable release (2.4.3) this bug is still present. The reason you get the above error now is that the python code now detects when the stacksize is horked, and fails at the time, rather than silently corrupting memory (which later may, or may not, cause a crash). It's easily argued that this is a better thing to do than silently corrupting memory and continuing onwards - I wasted _hours_ trying to find this bug, unsuccessfully. Peculiarity (bug?) with default parameters to external methods

Hi all I'm seeing funny behaviour when using external methods with default parameters. Martijn Faassen says it best in a posting from three years ago: From my (limited) perspective it still looks as if all works just as expected (in the Python sense), *except* when I use default parameters in the external methods, and only then when I don't use the explicit "foo='bar'" method of parameter passing. http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-February/086018.html I won't bore you with a description of what exactly goes wrong. In short, when I have:: def makeTSV(self, rows, field_names = None): then 'rows' gets a completely spurious value. When I have:: def makeTSV(self, rows, field_names): 'rows' works as expected. Python 2.1.2 and Zope 2.4.x?

On January 4th, the Zope news mentioned a Python 2.1.2 would be released fixing potential crashing problems with Zope 2.4.x. Late last week I installed the release version of this new Python and now some of my scripts are causing the following error: Python/ceval.c:687: failed assertion `STACK_LEVEL() <= f->f_stacksize' I thought this ceval problem was what it was supposed to fix, not exacerbate! I've tried rebuilding both Zope 2.4.1 and 2.4.3 with Python 2. 1.2 and it hasn't helped. In case it matters this is under Solaris 8 Intel. The news letter didn't say that a new version of Zope would be needed for the new Python, is that the case? Is anyone else seeing this problem? Cheers, Marc

AttributeError when adding Product.

Greetings, I have a Product called Project that has one ZClass, also called Project. When i am in /Control_Panel/Products/Project and select Project_addForm and then View, i can enter a Project ID and then submit, and a Project instance gets created in that folder. However, anytime i try to add a Project Product using the Add... drop down, i get an error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: createInObjectManager The error is below. Any thoughts? well-behaved dtml-tree tag without frames

Hi, I would like to build an interface similar to zopes management interface, but without using frames. I have played around with dtml-tree tag now for some time, but it always behaves weird in some cases. Let's say my ZOPE tree looks like this (every object where no type is given in braces is a folder) / /show_tree /index_html /visible_tree /visible_tree/A /visible_tree/A/foo (method) /visible_tree/A/bar (method) /visible_tree/B/ /visible_tree/B/C /visible_tree/B/C/one (method) /visible_tree/B/C/two (method) /visible_tree/C index_html is some default page. show_tree contains a dtml-tree tag (see below) that renders folders and methods of /visible_tree. Now index_html, foo, bar, one and two all include a <dtml-var show_tree> tag. On every page the user should see the same navigation tree. (Objects might be expanded or not though) Now this is how my /show_tree looks like: -- <dtml-tree id="/show_tree" skip_unauthorized expr="/visible_tree" branches="objectValues"> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"> <dtml-var title_or_id> </a> </dtml-tree> -- Now, this tree should behave exactly like the tree in the zope management interface, but it does not. It changes it's state (open and closed branches) seemingly randomly. I believe this is because the state of the tree-tag is stored at the current object and not at a global spot (which is what I would want). The Zope book tells me: -- id=string The name of a method or id to determine tree state. It defaults to tpId which most Zope objects support. This attribute is for advanced usage only. -- Now this seems to do what I want, but I am not sure I understand the paragraph correctly. Is this id used as a key to store the state in some global DB, or does the id need to return some kind of tree-status object. In what context will the id be applied? The book "Zope - web application construction kit" tells me something different about id (of dtml-tree): -- ID The name of an attribute or a method that is used to set the ID of an object. The default method is tpId. The attribute should be applied by advanced users only. -- Now this paragraph seems to express that "id" is not corresponding to the dtml-tree tag itself, but to it's nodes ??!!!! And what the heck is tpId tpURL and where can I buy one? Docs say most objects implement it, but if I type /visible_tree/A/foo/tpId or /visible_tree/A/foo/tpURL I just get error messages back. Please help me out on this one, it's been a real nightmare thus far. tia, Andreas
