starting as a certain user

I know that I can start the Zope service as a certain user by adding the option -u user to the start script. Now when i start Zope automatically at bootup through /etc/init.d/zope_instance_xy (which calls the start script), the process cannot be stopped by the user (-u user), because there exists 1 root process beside the user processes. The pid is not owned by the user. Did I miss something? Stephan

There's a thread on this earlier in the list, xmlrpclib changed in 2.6. There's now a compatible version in CVS and on Zope.org, enjoy. IEDocument and Zope 2.6

Did anybody succeed to use IEDocument with Zope 2.6? Hi, I have the following code snippet: <dtml-in expr="view.sql_query_current_windows_version(p_custName=p_custName, p_inventory=p_inventory)"> <dtml-var current_windows_version> </dtml-in> I'd like to be able to check the value of 'current_windows_version' (which is sel in the ZSQL method) later in the code. question about local roles

Hi all, I have a dtml method a_method with access allowed to users having some_role, I have a folder a_folder where user1 has local role some_role. If, logged in as user1, I access .../a_folder/a_method I get an unauthorized error message. It seems to me like local roles are not acquired. Is this right or I'm doing something wrong? Acquiring functions in ZPT

I have been puzzling over how to apply Python scripts to various kinds of things in a page template. A simple example is a script I have called formatContactName that takes a name record and formats it as "last, first middle title suffix". In a page template this would get used like so: <span tal:content="object/formatContactName">placeholder</span> It appears that I can only do this for a very limited class of objects: It works fine for records obtained from a database query in the template itself, but it does _not_ work for a dictionary obtained from a SESSION variable or from the options parameter. Nor does it work for a page template. I currently use a table display macro for displaying database queries and I am having to pass in a list of column specifications via the options parameter which means that I am keeping display information in the form's Python script (bad design). My tentative solution was to add list properties (describing the columns) to the page and then write a script to turn the list of column descriptor fields into a list of rows of single column descriptions. I wrote the script (list_columns ) and tried to call it as above: <... tal:define="list_columns template/list_columns"...> and again I got a name resolution problem. This is a very handy facility, and I would like to make more use of it (writing methods like this to expand simple dictionaries is very appealing) but it seems to be mostly unavailable. version control, deployment scenarios?

Hi all, I'm thinking about using Zope for the next version of the content management/e-learning platform that my organisation is building. The features of Zope are quite awsome. What I have not been able to make sure from the online documentation is if the development, version control and deployment scenario that we are currently using is possible with Zope. Our development team is dispersed across europe so: * Each of us has a development server at their work place * We all check the source files into a sourceforge CVS system. * We update the production server directly from the sourceforge CVS with a script. My question is, if this is a viable solution with Zope. I'm concerned that it might be a problem because I'm not sure if all tasks concerning source files like page templates, python scripts, etc can be done without using the Zope management interface. A solution where we'd have to use the Zope management interface would also be ok as long as it can be done for all changed/added/delete files at once. What I don't want to do is touch each and every added or changed file to import it into Zope. I would very much appreciate any comment or link to some how-to. Hi Thanks again for all the help. I have been going through the CVS . Ther are lots of files and folders in the CVS.How can I down Load Zope 3 Source Code? Could you please tell me the step by step procedure to download Zope3 and then install it and get it running on Mandrake Linux 8.2. Thanks in Advance for all help. Confirmation of delete in metapublisher

When you add entries in a metapublisher database, you get a list of these entries followed by the 'View', 'Edit', and 'Delete'. If I press the 'Delete' link the entry is deleted without warning. Is it possible to ask "are you sure" or something like that (and how do I do it) ? I know there is a metapublisher mailing list but the subscrition page seems to be down. I hope someone will answer on this list.
