We recently upgraded from Zope 2.5 to 2.6 and are experiencing a problem with PDF's loading via the browser (any) plugin. The Adobe plugin loads in the browser and the user is presented a blank screen, as the content is either not sent or received properly. This problem does not occur with all PDF files, however the ones that are being affected did work with the prior version of Zope. Does anybody have knowledge of the cause of this problem or where/if a fix can be obtained. Also if the pdf's in question are downloaded rather than sent to the browser, the content comes accross fine. TIA, Jason

After playing around last night, I found a hackish workaround for my problem. Instead of trying to delete the user's local roles, I just assign a bogus role (eg. "Dummy") to the user in that folder. This replaces the "Broker" role and removes the user's accreditation for that product. I'd still appreciate it if someone can enlighten me on why the below does not work. In the script I have tried: productFolder.manage_delLocalRoles([userId]) AND context.portal_membership.deleteLocalRoles(productFolder, [userId]) Out of the source I understand why the latter doesn't work - it ignores proxy roles and uses manage_delLocalRoles anyway. Why doesn't the first one also not work? Does it also ignore proxy roles? The script works if I am logged in as "Manager", but I want a "BrokerManager" user to also be able to use this script without giving him full "Manager" rights. B.t.w. the above fails silently, no exception, the role removal just doesn't happen. Thanks Etienne

caching

I have a python function which returns a list of dictionaries (a result for an ldap query). But since I don't want to enrage the sysadmin or have a real slow page, I want to be able to cache this list in zope, and only update it every hour or so. The question then is : Could anyone suggest something to store this list in? Preferably something which could accept the the list as it is, and be able to return it in a way so that I could iterate over it and build my webpage. I'm really not sure what would be the quickest/and or easiest. all help would appreciated. Jorg Rødsjø

ParsedXML and Zope 2.6

The ParsedXML comes with a binary for python 1.5 but now Zope 2.6 is working with python 2.1 Also, now that in Shared/DC/XML/PyExpat there is a binary called "dcpyexpat.pyd". Are there any way to patch parsedXML to use dcpyexpat or get an binary for pyexpat for ParsedXML for 2.6? Also, transparentfolder stop working for 2.6 also. Hi, I am also facing the same problem with PDF Files on Zope 2.6.0. I could not find the latest patch. Looks like OFS.Image.py file had this patch for Zope 2.5.x and lost it in Zope 2.6.0 Do you suggest any other way of getting the patch ? Dieter Maurer's reply: Early versions of Zope 2.5.x had problems with byte range requests (they merged adjacent byte ranges; this seriously confused Acrobat). Maybe, the fixes were lost in Zope 2.6. Macromedia Contribute

This got a mention on the cms list <http://www.macromedia.com/software/contribute/> I just gave the preview version a spin. It's a nice try. If you're not going to do TTW editing in the browser then this is the perhaps the next best thing for "occasional authors". There is drag-and-drop integration of Word and Excel. No support (yet) for secure protocols (just FTP) but I ran it against Webdrive pointing at a server over ssh and it worked fine. The real bummer is that it seems a non-starter with Zope. Contribute needs to create the directories _mm, _bak and _notes. Is there really no way round this? With Dreamwever you can switch the _notes thing off but I don't think this is an option with Contribute. Could a PUT_factory intervene? Preventing people from joining a CMF site?

Restricting viewing of documents to members in CMF?

I'm trying to understand how permissions work for CMF. I want to let only members (or reviewers or maangers) view documents. Restricting the 'View' permission to just members (etc.) seems to prevent the login page from being accessed. Which permission is the one that I should use for restricting viewing of documents? nfgnav?

I have aded an nfgnav-instance in a zclass so that all my objects of that zclass have a similar sitemap. Only problem is: it never shows up for the regular website-user, only for me who have access to the management screens. How do I solve this? My guess is that it has to do with the permissions set for nfgnav, but I cannot figure it out. A helping pinpointer in any direction would be of great help!
