Local Roles - taking away further down the tree?

Hi there, First, AFAIK local roles are acquired further down the tree - if I assign a local role, the user will have that local role in that folder's children too. Is is possible to "remove" the local role of a user in a folder/set of folders further down the tree? If this is not possible and maybe even a stupid idea, please fire away - I need some ammo to convince the client that this is anyway not a good idea - even if it cannot be done! Thanks Etienne

XML-RPC problems after upgrade

I've just upgrade from 2.4.3 to 2.6. In the process, I've also changed some things (e.g., changed from SiteRoot/SiteAccess to VHM). My problem now is that XML-RPC calls aren't working any more. I always get a /RPC2 NotFound error. Disabling registration form

I know I can unshow the 'join' link through the portal_registration tool, but the login form still provides a link to the registration form. How can I disable registration alltogether? -- Martin F. using tools

Last question... How do I use tools? For instance, when I open the portal_registration tool in ZMI, the 'Overview' tab says: "... in particular, it sets the default policies for allowable member IDs and passwords." However, next to 'Overview', there is only 'Actions', and that contains just the definitions of actions like found in portal_actions. So I am thinking that I may not have understood how to use a tool. Is there more to it than included in the two tabs? Or portal_url, is there any configuration I can do? Also, what is the difference between tools that have the wrench icon (like portal_memberdata) and the ones with the Plone icon (like portal_membership)? Thanks, -- Martin F. How would I go about renaming the ./Members folder to ./people? I renamed it, I changed portal_actions to point to the right space, but user pages now cannot be accessed anymore. The links don't show up, presumably because ./Members is now a 404. Any tips? -- Martin F. zope_quick_start?

Hi, I didn't find any post through the archives of this list on Yahoo, and since the archives at http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/ don't provide a search function... The index_html object at / includes a reference to zope_quick_start, which displays the familiar "Welcome to Zope, a high-performance object-oriented platform for building dynamic Web applications" page but... the Find tab doesn't return anything when trying to locate this object in the ZODB. How can that be? Thx Fred.

My zen is malfunctioning

Perhaps someone can help me straighten this out in my head. I have DTML method "input" that collects two values from the user in a html form, start_date and end_date.Submiting the form calls DTML method "subtotal" which takes the two values passed in the REQUEST and uses them as parameters in a ZSQL method to produce a list of subtotaled results from my database. So far, so good. My goal is to make each subtotal a link to a second ZSQL method that returns a detailed listing without subtotals. I can manage to create the hrefs in each line of the report, but I'm fuzzy on how to pass the start_date and end_date from my first REQUEST through the subtotal DTML method, and into the REQUEST for the detail report. Is this a job for dtml-with? I'm thinking inside the subtotal DTML method I have to manually push the values into the namespace somehow, but how to do that escapes me.

help on CLIENT_HOME format under win32

Hi all, I seek suggestions on the following problem: I have a class foo that references files kept on the filesystem (by subclassing ExternalFile). One of the properties of foo is the path to the referenced externalfile which is used also as an index in the Catalog. All the paths string values are constructed in an OS independent way by means of os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, my-app-basepath). The problem is that if you install Zope on win32 under the standard "Program Files" dir, the CLIENT_HOME variable value get translated in the ugly "Progr~1\" format and hence the Catalog cannot match this string to the real path string. The obvious solution would be to hardwire in the code the full basepath to the external files, but there should be a more elegant solution. Any suggestion ? TIA, --peppo

Zope Book call for assistance

Hi, Time has rolled around for me to ask for assistance with editing the most recent edition of the Zope Book. A "2.6 edition" of the Zope Book exists at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/index_html. It has many new chapters and a most existing chapters have been rewritten and extended. But it's not finished and I'd really like this Zope Book edition to be the "current" edition by the time Zope 2.6.1 comes out. If anyone has the time and inclination to edit and extend one of the following chapters of the 2.6 edition Zope Book, you will be rewarded with a glowing mention in the Preface of the book. If you professionally edit two chapters, you'll be considered a coauthor and your name will go on the header. That'd be nice on a resume, I'd imagine.
