Dieter, thank you for the reply. For some reason I missed it last Friday. I had done as you suggested, but retried again today, and it seems to work. Clearly I did something different between then and now... One interesting side effect is that when I do this from within the CMF, using portal_catalog, it uses acquisition (inheritance?) to populate fields such as Description with the portal description. I'll have to figure out how to suppress that. At the very least I can add a Description property to the LocalFS and leave it blank. Encrypting passwords

In the properties of acl_users, I found a checkbox 'Encrypt user passwords' and enabled it, then clicked on 'Update existing passwords'. The result was that users could not log in anymore, not even when I turned the checkbox off again (and clicked 'Update...'). What's the deal here? -- Martin F. Zope-2.6 + PostgreSQL-7.2.1 + ZPsycopgDA

Hi, I currently use the products described in the title on a Linux server. My problem is that as the site is used (even by a little number of users), more and more connections are opened on the PostgreSQL server. But these connections are not released, even if many of them don't seem to be reused, and after a while PostgreSQL refuse new connections saying that too many connections are already open. Is there any way to handle such a kind of problems in Zope, to reuse or close existing connections when no more used, or is it only a PostgreSQL problem ??? Many thanks for your help, Thierry P.S.: actually, my SQL methods are defined into my own Zope products like this : sql_get_something = SQL (id='sql_get_something', title="My Title", connection_id='my_sql_connection', arguments='', template="select * from table") Then this method is used normally into DTML scripts (<dtml-in sql_get_something>) or into other Python methods (for record in sql_get_something(): ...) Tracebacks in 2.6.0

Hello everyone, I experienced a problem earlier today calling a dtml method from a python script. As it turns out, the problem was in the dtml method, but I couldn't clearly learn this from the 2.6.0 tracebacks or error log. What I ended up doing was moving the Data.fs file to a 2.5.1 installation, reproducing the error to get the traceback, then solving the problem. I am running z2.py with the -D flag set and have also added <dtml-var error_tb> to standard_error_message, but I still am not getting the same level of detail. So, my question is... Is there any way to get the detailed traceback information in 2.6.0 that was available in 2.5.1? Anyone else having this sort of trouble? Kevin

syncing two instances of zope

Hi, I have a setup where two machines are running identical instances of zope and only one of them is active to the outside world via a firewall. As and when one of them goes down the other is activated by the firewall for the duration that the primary went down. How do I keep these two instances in sync at all times ( mebbe a 10-15 min delay between syncs)?? I looked at ZSyncer but it seems I have to explicitely specify objects to be synced. Help with Authentication and Zope 2.6

HELP!!! I have just upgraded one of my servers to Zope 2.6.0 and am having problems with authentication. I have a simple requirement that one folder requires a username and password to access it's contents. I have created a single username and password (as this is all that is required) is acl_users and in the security tab of that folder on the 'view' permission, unchecked 'aquire permissions setting' and checked 'authenticated'. When I attempt to access the resource, I get prompted for a username and password three times, before it croaks with an error usually 'You are not allowed to access <something> in this context'. This worked fine in 2.5.1. Am I missing something obvious? I know I am entering the username/password correctly as I have also tried my admin account which I use in the ZMI. PLEASE HELP!!!! ZPT / TALES question

TALES uses the 'options' variable to store the dictionary of key/value pairs passed into a ZPTemplate when it gets parsed. My question is: What 'is' options? Obviously, it is some sort of dictionary, but what does it inherit from, etc.? The reason I ask is I 'bumped into' a method of options accidentally. In one of my templates I used the following syntax: <input type="hidden" name="copy" value="" tal:attributes="value options/copy"> I had passed a variable named 'copy' into the options dictionary with my own value, and wanted it to persist across the form submission, hence the hidden input field. What happened though is when my form was submitted, the action script read in copy as this HUGE dictionary, and after further investigation, I realized its contents were the same as the options that I passed into the Template. So options/copy appears to create a copy OF options. How's that for confusing! Obviously, I will change the name of my variable to something else. Just wondering what 'else' I should avoid! You cannot preserve the sequence of "mybrain" objects, but you can store their record ids and resolve the ids later into the objects by means of a catalog method. For details, please read the "ZCatalog" section of <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html> It tells you the exact name of the record id and the name of the catalog method. You are probably also interested in Pythons "list comprehension": [x.record_id_ for x in catalog(...)] Dieter PS: Please stay on the list.

Hi, To whom it applies: Thank you for replying to my previous post. Next item i'm digging into is Zope debugging. I've checked the documentation about debugging. Also i'm currently browsing through the http://zwiki.org/ZopeDebugging page. Any other suggestions for easy debugging zope apps? Setting breakpoints and stepping through a zope app?
