This is not the problem. I can authenticate and access the ZMI with no problem. The problem I am having seems to be in the permissions on an object. I don't seem to be able to make an object viewable only to 'authenticated' users. Easier maintenance than through management iface?

Hi Zopers, Please excuse the length of this email. I'd greatly appreciate if you'd read through it nevertheless and give me some feedback. Our lab wants to change the website[1] over to a content management system. I am not so much in favour of these Slashdot-like PHP-integrated packages, and so I started looking into Zope. It's not my first time that I am playing around with it, but I guess it's safe to say that I am still a newbie. 1. http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/ailab/ I would like to use Zope for this purpose because of the positive feedback I got, and because it's an excellent opportunity for me to learn Zope (which I wanted to do for a while) by doing it. However, we have a couple of requirements for a CMS, and while I know that Zope is very extensible (and it not really being a CMS per se), I have not been able to meet these requirements with a test installation (of Debian's Zope 2.5.1). I like the management interface, but I can't expect everyone at the lab to use it, nor can I really expect them to do either of ZPT or DTML. Ideally, I want to get rid of HTML for the end-user as a whole. I would like to provide templates for the main parts of the website and let authorized users maintain the data contained through forms via the web browser. They should be able to do simple formatting (like in a Wiki), but they should not be able to influence the structure of the documents. I think about this in terms of a <span> tag surrounding the part that a user can edit, and an edit button provided alongside (only if e.g. the user comes from our IP space). The rest of the page they cannot influence, they can only change the content. My first question is: does Zope provide such a framework? I looked at the CMF, but I didn't find what I was searching. I need no member management (the authorized editors should be handled by Zope's ACLs), I need no forum-posting-comment thing, but I want full control over the structure and layout, while giving the authenticated users full control over contents. One way of approaching this is to use a database backend for the information, and to provide simple editing forms for the user. However, The data to be stored is not really susceptible to storage in a relational database as it's too diverse. Moreover, I'd have to provide editing forms for every type of modification, and last but not least, the user could not edit in place but would have to go somewhere entirely different if a change is needed. I would like to roll out Zope, but I need to make it easier for the users. Zope is way more powerful than HTML (obviously), but the only argument that will fly and support my proposed change over to using your (excellent) software is if the users' life will be simplified. Can Zope achieve this? Thanks, and sorry again for the length of this post! idea for unique object id's

PIL error: decoder jpeg not available

I'm desperately trying to get PIL going under Zope, so I can run the Photo and Photo Folder products. Everything seems to be working fine as long as I stick to .gif images-- I can create a photo folder, add photo docs, pregenerate thumbnails, etc. However, it breaks when I try to use a .jpg image. When I try to create a photo doc with a .jpg, I get the following error: * Module PIL.Image, line 255, in _getdecoder IOError: decoder jpeg not available OK, so i've searched all the lists I can find, and it seems as if i don't have JPEG support compiled into PIL. If I go to /var/zope/lib/python2.1/site-packages/PIL and run "ldd _imaging.so", I get: libc.so.6 => /lib/i686/libc.so.6 (0x42000000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000) I believe I should have a line in there like "libjpeg.so.6 => /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.6". But I don't. So I believe this means that I need to recompile the PIL libraries? I went back to my PIL /libImaging folder and tried manually editing the ImConfig.h file. I uncommented the line /* Define if you have the IJG jpeg library (-ljpeg). */ #undef HAVE_LIBJPEG */ then re-run make, but the new "_imaging.so" still doesn't seem to be linked to libjpeg.so.6. I think i'm close, but I can't quite get there. How do I recompile PIL with JPG support? Sorry for being an idiot here, but can someone help drag me the last 10 feet to victory? --dave

Tru64 problems

Hi folks, whenever I try to "find objects" within a Zcatalog on Tru64 Unix (python 2.1.3 compiled from source), Zope crashes with the following error: zdaemon Process 10468 terminated by signal SIGFPE(8) This happens both using 2.6.0 and 2.6.1b1, when adding metadata "summary" which most objects do not have, and reindexing. I know this is a rather blurry description, but if there is a way I can get more info out of Zope I'd be more than happy to provide it. Dieter, I most definitely use Python 2.1.3 ... I however AM using 2.5.0 ... A bit old I know, I'm about to start working on upgrading when 2.6.1 comes out ... Are there specific bugs in 2.5.0 that could be causing this behavior? I vaguely recall looking at the Change Log and Collector, but not finding much about any kind of memory leak ... For now I AM going to try and remove any use I make of REQUEST.set, see if that helps ... Thanks! Object propogation

I'm trying to filter the results of a Zsearch, and return the filtered results to the user. I have an external python script which queries a textindex, and returns a list of mybrain objects. I can then build a new list with the filtered results, and return that to the dtml method which displays the first 20 results with no problem. I copied the dtml method generated by an add Z Search Interface, and modified it to process the filtered list. The problem is that I can't get it to handle the next 20 (and so on) results. The Fresults list that I process the first time doesn't propogate to the next iteration. The results list obviously DO propogate for the unaltered search forms. Does anyone have any suggestions? Array question??

Hi, This question has two parts. The first is establishing an array element. I have followed the examples I have found. First let me explain what I am trying to accomplish. I have an online form that allows the user to input header information (customer, address, etc) and the next set of forms they can enter line items that detail the problem with each part number. At the end, in our company, depending on 2 parameters, will define the signature block needed for each part (approval/rejected). For example, Part1 name1 name2 name3 Part2 name1 name3 Part3 name2 name4 This works, thank god. Now they want a routing list so on the cover page they would see name1 name2 name3 name4 I know I need two arrays but I may have the wrong syntax. I need to load all the names and go through them again looking for dups. If someone has a better way I am open to suggestions. Here is my code so far. Exceptions in Python Script

Hi, Can anyone point me towards documentation / howtos / information on handling exceptions in python scripts (scripts not 'external methods'). I have a core set of page templates that determine their content based on the traverse_subpath. Due to the inability of some browsers to understand the base tag, I have just re-implemented this logic python. However, I cannot handle the exceptions in python. Using page templates I can handle exceptions, but not using a python script. I want such logic as: pt = container.x return pt() except AccessControl.unauthorized.Unauthorized: return container.acl_users.redirectToLogin(request) except ... NotFound : .... except: ... But access to the python exception functionality is not available. Furthermore, access to the sys variables for exceptions are also not available. When I use page templates I have a variable called '_', and can do some nasty work .... error = _['error'] if str(error.type) == "AccessControl.unauthorized.Unauthorized": return container.acl_users.redirectToLogin(request) However, there is no _ in the python script. So I need to have scripts calling page templates calling scripts so that I can get the exception information. This is the sort of coding that makes Visual Basic look clean! This problem is so fundamental that I am sure there is plenty of documentation in the zope site. Unfortunately, I cannot find it. If anyone can point me to the HowTos or other documentation on this problem, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance, Kevin Gill PS - Remember the question is about python scripts. High CPU usage on ExtFile objects?

Hello: We're running our law school web-site on Zope 2.4.3 (source release, python 2.1, linux2). Zope is running through Apache pcgi. Our Data.fs is about 130MB in size. In addition we have two large directories of external image/external file objects. Occasionally, we see CPU usage shoot to 99.9% when attempting to view large (up to 8MB in size) PDFs stored as ExtFile objects in these folders. The attempted display of the PDF then fails. The folders with the PDFs are on a local 10K RPM SCSI drive. We're using a linux 2.4.x SMP kernel with 2 PIII 500Mhz processors and 1 GB RAM. Load average when not attempting to display the large PDFs is something like: 0.79 - 0.64. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve performance for display of these PDF documents?
