hi Greg, I'm not sure of any existing products which would do this, but it's easy enough to do yourself. 1. The column header needs to be a link back to the page, but specifying the column name, so an optional 'order by' clause in the zsql method. but the dtml-sqlvar tag puts quotes around its values, so this wouldn't work. and it wouldn't be safe to just use <dtml-var ...> inside a zsql method as someone could hack your site and call it with the column name e.g. 'dummy; drop table users'. I would do this with each table display page as a folder with an index_html python script, a zsql method, and a display method. The python script takes an optional parameter of the column name, or sets a default. it checks this against a list of metadata about your table with the column names, and throws an error if this isn't in your 'safe' list. It then calls the zsql method with the column name, which has an 'order by <dtml-var col_name>' clause. 2. you need to make a page which displays the detail of the particular item given its primary key. I'd have a python method (say 'detail') which picks up the key id as parameter, calls a zsql method to get the info from the database, and sends it to a display method (dtml or zpt). The item in the first page is an <a href="detail?key=&dtml-KEY;"> (in DTML, with KEY being a variable with the primary key value) link to the python script 'detail', which replaces the key id when generated. too strict html validation in page templates (zpt)

I find that html validation in page templates is over-strict (at least from Zope 2.4.3 on). The following bit validates ok at http://validator.w3.org but fails as input to a page template ("EOF in middle of construct"). The problem is that the attributes on the span tag are not separated by whitespace. It works fine as a dtml method, though. The reason this is such a problem is that Dreamweaver MX (and perhaps other versions) tends to create markup that looks like this, and it is the most common tool used by page designers with whom I work. My question is three-fold: 1) Why is there such a difference in syntax sensitivity between zpt and dmtl methods? 2) Does anyone know of a tweak to tal.htmlparser that will relax some of these restrictions? -- OR -- 3) Is there a tool that will clean up errant code such as this (and other problems like p tags not allowing block elements inside them, causing the htmlparser to choke on the eventual /p that seems to be mismatched. I know, there is no certain way to fix such a problem, but just stripping the mismatched end tag might do. This will work in a python product (and likely in external methods), but not in Zope python scripts. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you absolutely know what you are doing and why you need this instead of using the ZMySQLDA (and at that, you need to be mindful about how you do transactions). The one place where I can see this being useful is in scripts creating databases, and the best solution for this is likely an external method. Hi, I'm interested in tracing actions of my code to a plain txt file in each folder of the application. I just want to add one or more lines to the log after some actions take place, and I want to know if there's a simple method to write one line to that log.txt I think I can use "manage_editFile", but it implies reading all the content and adding the new line, but I'm not interested in reading it, just add the line!! I think it would be a useless-complex-method reading it before Help, please. Thanks in advance

The HTML 4.01 Rec says about attributes - "Attribute/value pairs appear before the final ">" of an element's start tag. The answer, from Chris McDonough as I recall, is that the REQUEST object gets handled and referenced so many places inside Zope that it would probably be impossible to be sure that any property assignments you added would really get released, thus preventing garbage collection. The ZMI sort of uses this concept. Click a header, it sorts one way. Click again, and it sorts the other way. If you dig into the code that builds the manage_edit page, you can easily see how its done. I built an Automotive Sales site using this and it works well. Dropdowns show unique values for each field. Selecting an option, displays a new page but now that dropdown is not there and the others only have unique values from the first query and so on. Each row has several fields. Clicking a field limits the next page to only items of that type and the dropdowns update as well. And the whole time, you can sort and resort each of the columns. Then at any time, you can click a VIEW link to see the detail of a car. Works really well and I am going to go back and redo 3 others sections of our site to use this same technique. Good luck. Also worth mentioning, if you were testing caching performance, you would also want to have 2 laptops running a tool like this, have one start a test, delay a little bit, and let another start after you feel confident that the cache is relatively full of the items you want. This sort of testing would apply just as much to Apache/mod_proxy (assuming you cache) as it would to Squid.
