I am using a form to upload a file object: <tr><th>EEG File</th> <td><INPUT TYPE="file" NAME="file_name" WIDTH=60></td></tr> When the form is submitted, the REQUEST object file_name is passed to a Python Script which adds it to the file system: folder.manage_addFile(id='', file=file_name) return getattr(file_name, 'filename') This works fine. My question is on the getattr part. I got code from some example, long lost to me now, and can grok how it works, but I am having trouble finding suitable documentation. For example, what are the other attributes of file_name besides 'filename'. I tried '__dict__' to get a listing but got an error, so I suspect this is one of the protections of the Zope 'getattr'. Could someone point me to some reference documentation that would have this? Thanks, John Hunter

LocalFS and Zcatalog

Hi, I have a bunch of files in a local non-Zope file system that I want to index in Zope with a catalog. I tried to use LocalFS but I can not create a Zcatalog on it. I also had a look at Kaivo Document Library but it doesn't work because Kaivo requires the files to be in Zope. Is there a way to create a catalog on a LocalFS, or should I use another product? Getting the creator of an object

[Bug] refresh does not work for products initialized in the old style

Recently, someone complaint about being unable to refresh his product. After the first refresh, he was unable create new instances of his product. He got an unintelligent error message: "AttributeError: None object does not have attribute _setObject" I just found out why this happens: Products using old style initializations install their constructors as methods of "Folder.Folder". When the product is reinstalled during a refresh, then in "OFS.Application.install_product" it is checked whether "Folder.Folder" already has the method. It has! The old method from the time before the refresh. Therefore, the old constructors remain installed. I do not yet understand, why a "self" that should be a folder is passed as None, but I am convinced it has to do with the outdated constructor in "Folder.Folder". Upgrading to new style initialization works around the problem. Dieter

Help!- locked out of my Zope

Forgive me I'm a newbie- also not too up on UNIX or Apache (taking the Crash course here...) Have a virtual private server on FreeBSD behind Apache. Installed Zope, got it working with one of my virtual hosts, thanks to the docs. Was working in the VH and accidentally created a DTML method that called itself- infinite loop- and before I could stop that, BAM! The database gets wiped out back to the install version with nothing. I go into Undo (probably unwise move here, but I was upset) and try to back out of the install, thinking that somehow a new install got triggered. This was last Friday. since then I've tried everything I can to ./stop ./start, reinstall, uninstall, use zpasswd to change the access and inituser files, comment out LoadModule line for FastCGI, etc. Zope, some version is still running but I cannot log in- period. Read in an FAQ somewhere that, uh, now I can't remember what it told me to do, something about permissions. Then I saw something about both Zope and Apache needing permissions for PCGI, or at read / write on zope.soc with fastCGI. Any help greatly appreciated. Hi all, I know that this topic has been rolled up several times, but I've only found rather "bad" examples. Imagine a simple site: /folder1 /folder2 /folder3/folder4 We also the method "buildMenu" in the root: <dtml-in expr="objectValues(['Folder'])"> <some output code> </dtml-in> So if we call buildMenu from the root, it works as expected, and renders: folder1 folder2 folder3 But when called from folder1, it renders nothing, since there are no folders. But the question is: Is it possible to tell objectValues that it should perform relative to the "buildMenu" method rather than using the parent object (for example, index_html in folder1?). Of course, having a PARENTS[-1] is a workaround, but not a real solution. Is there a possibility to tell objectValues WITHOUT an absolute reference to something that it should work relative to buildMenu? Best regards, Timo -- Timo A. What is "default__class_init__"?

Can anybody tell me what you use "default__class_init__" from Globals for? I've seen it used many times in python products but never really understood its use. Is it used in conjunction with setting the "__ac_permissions__" property? If so, using the more modern "AccessControl.ClassSecurityInfo()", is there no need for "default__class_init__" anymore? Curious, Peter

IT WORKS!! It's very slow, and I still have to work out some authentication issues, but I just successfully attached a file in Outlook 2000. ZEO is storing the file, Zope is serving it, davfs is mounting the whole site as a filesystem, Samba is exporting it, and all Windows has to do is map the SMB share and let Outlook access it. Here's what I have: RedHat 7.2 (2.4.9 kernel), davfs 0.2.3, Samba 2.2.1, Zope 2.5.0, ZEO 1.0b5. On the client side, Win2000SP2, Office2000SP2. For those that are interested, WebDrive on the client did the job much better than this server setup, but I'm still doubtful that they'll let me insist on a client-side solution. I still may not win the fight, but at least I now have more ammunition. Thank you so much to all who chimed in. Can't edit ZPT through WebDAV or FTP when not a manager

Posted this a few days ago, but haven't received any ideas. Can anyone confirm that they *can* edit ZPTs with WebDAV/FTP as a non-manager with Zope 2.5? I'm willing to dig into the source if I can find get some input on how specific the problem is to versions, setup, etc. -- Synopsis: A highly-privileged non-manager user can edit all content types through WebDAV or FTP *except* PageTemplates. If user is changed to a manager, they can now edit PageTemplates through WebDAV/FTP. Demonstration/Walkthrough: 1) in folder "/foo", create local role "test" 2) in "/foo", give role "test" *all* permissions (in theory, this person would only need a few privileges; to remove any possibility that we're guessing the wrong privileges, select them all) 3) add user "bob" w/role=test 4) create a ZPT document "test.pt" in "/foo" 5) create a DTML DOcument "test.dtml" in "/foo" 5) see that bob can edit both documents using ZMI w/o problem. (therefore, it's not privileges per se that's causing the problem) 6) see that using WebDAV/FTP, bob can edit "test.dtml" (therefore, it's not WebDAV setup per se that's causing the problem) 7) see that using WebDAV/FTP, bob *cannot* edit "test.pt" (!) 8) add manager role to bob 9) now bob can edit "test.pt" through WebDAV/FTP (therefore, it's not simply ZPT+WebDAV that's causing the problem) Notes: I've tried FTP and 3 WebDAV clients (cadaver, WebDrive, Dreamweaver); all return an unauthorized message. This isn't a firewall, client, or locking problem: I can't do it from the server using cadaver; I've tried different client machines; using cadaver, I can't even GET the file (which makes no attempt to lock it.) WebDAV editing of ZPT is a critical feature for my clients. I can't give the editors "manager" role w/o opening huge security holes. Using cadaver w/debug settings, I can get detail on the requests and responses: the forbidden edit request (step #7 above) just re-requests authentication twice and fails. Happy to send the cadaver log to anyone who might find it helpful. Can anyone edit ZPT through WebDAV or FTP with non-managers? Programmatically adding LocalFS objects

I'm sure there's an easy fix for this one, but I sure can't find it. According to LocalFS' source, this should add a LocalFS to the ZODB: <dtml-call "manage_addLocalFS('name', 'title', 'basepath')"> It doesn't work. Here's the error: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'manage_addLocalFS' is not defined I've searched the message boards and found users with the same problem, but no posted solutions.
