Server-side Java & Zope?

I hope that I am not beating a well-beaten horse, but a search on Google didn't seem to tell me whether it's possible to use java servelets to extend Zope sort of like python/perl externals can. So is this do-able (even if it involves invoking the servelet indirectly?)? I would prefer to use python exclusively, but it would be useful to be able to tell some IT manager simpletons that what I propose to do with Zope will include "some java" since even they have heard of java, while python draws a knowing blank (altho it's being used for regression testing by the product development people in the same company two floors down) and Zope doesn't even rate that. <rant> I spent 5 years as an IT manager and understand not wanting to make a bad decision, but I also made it a point to know what the choices were before the issue came up. It appears to me that the current breed of featherbedders is composed of appallingly political creatures who wouldn't know a router from a waffle iron. Which path?

I am developing an on-line job application system for my school district and have pretty much decided that Zope is the way to go. I have been reading up and experimenting with CMF, MetaPublisher, Formulator, etc., and can see how each has features that I can apply to my task, but am at a bit of a loss as to which is the best path to take. My specs include: 1. An applicant should be able to create his or her own account, a la CMF. 2. An applicant should be able to complete and submit the application/information sheet only once. (It is not obvious to me how I could impose this limitation within CMF.) 3. An application should be able to come back to the site later and update his/her information. 4. An applicant should be able to upload an electronic version of his/her resume (Word doc, PDF, etc.). 5. An applicant should be able to "apply" for a posted position. (In many cases, applicants will simply be submitting info without applying for a particular position.) 6. Local staff should be able to post and manage job openings. (Postings should automatically expire based on an application deadline.) 7. Local staff should be able to search for applicants based on any number of criteria (obviously). 8. Local staff should be able to download an applicant's resume. 9. Local staff should be able to delete applicants 10. ?? I'm not looking for a detailed "how-to" on any of this (yet ;-) ). What I would appreciate is advice on which path to take and any major pitfalls to avoid. So... My questions: 1. Are there solutions already out there for doing this kind of job bank system? I have searched Zope.org and any place else I could find, and nothing jumped out at me. 2. If not, would I be better off using CMF as a basis for the system or would it make more sense to use a collection of other products & custom objects to build the system "directly" in Zope (for lack of a better description)? What products would be the best starting points? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed. ZPT newbie:dtml-if last-XXX equivalent?

Hello, I'm fairly comfortable with DTML - just trying to look into the ZPT way. We use SQL methods extensively and most of our methods are heavily joined for performance reasons. In DTML it is very easy to find group break points by using sequence variabled first-XXX or last-XXX. Are there any equivalents of these in ZPT? I really don't want to use a asp/php/perl kind of solution where we code to keep the previous value in memory and then compare with the current value :-) Thanks in advance vsb

Easiest way to store the results of a form.

What is, in your opinion, the easiest way to store the results of a form, either from DTML or from a Python script? I'd rather not install a database, I can't write to disk files from python scripts... Any easy ways are appriciated, I have already thrown away several hours to do this and I completely refuse to waste any more time on this. There has to be a dead easy way that I have missed.

Extensions to Image object

namespace problem

Hi, How can I use named arguments and still have the namespace available for the method? Here follows what I do and why I have the problem: I have a dtml-method which is supposed to output a <select>...</select> form element. To do this it needs a loop over the results of an ZSQL method. The ZSQL method should only return rows with one special value. So it look like this ZSQL method "sites" (name is of course a defined argument) in folder "/sql" SELECT FROM SITES WHERE NAME=<dtml-sqlvar name type=string> DTML-Method "site" in folder "choose": <dtml-in "sql.sites(name=sitename)"> And I want to call the DTML-Method like this <dtml-var "choose.site(sitename=parsedname)"> The problem is, if I call the dtml-method like this it won't work. I need to call it like <dtml-var "choose.site(_.None,_)"> But in that case I can not of named arguments like "sitename=parsedname" and I have to set "sitename" via the REQUEST object. I find this very unelegant. How can I use named arguments and still have the namespace available for the method?
