"real file" product

hi I am preparing a web site using zope; I am quite of a newbie I would find it useful if it would be possible to store files in the real filesystem what I am thinking of is: I would like to have a class RealFile that is similar to the usual File, such that the content of the file is stored somewhere in the real filesystem or otherwise a class RealFolder that is similar to the usual Folder, such that, when a File is created into it, the content of the file is stored somewhere in the real filesystem; the reason for the above is that 1) I need to manage very large files (postscript PDF and such) and 2) I need to process these files with standard Unix tools is there any existing external method that does the job? thanks for any advice a.m. ps: please reply to me too, I am not subscribed to this list -- Andrea Mennucc "E' un mondo difficile. ZPT, DTML, SQL and Forms

Hi everyone. I'm somewhat new to Zope, so I have what may be a stupidly simple problem (probably is, actually). I want to have a site that allows adding, editing & searching of various database tables (eg. people). To keep things consistent for the user, I'd like to use one page template that has all the fields, and just call that template with an add dtml method, an edit dtml method, and a search dtml method. The part I'm having difficulty with is the connection between the ZSql and the template - specifically, I execute a SQL function to get the person's data, and I'd like to populate the template with it. To do this, I need to set the 'value' field of each input type in the form. I can set the field values in the form like this: <tr> <td><LABEL for="firstname">First name: </LABEL></td> <td><INPUT type="text" name="first_name" value="" tal:attributes="value request/form/first_name" tal:on-error="string:"> </td> </tr> This works if the form has itself as an action target. But what is the namespace for the variables returned by a ZSQL call? The column has the same name as the field (in this case, 'first_name'). How do I access the returned values from an ZSQL call? Another thing I've been wondering - I can't find the documentation on the various namespaces (here, request, etc). Where are they listed, and when should you use one over the other? CompilerError when importing into 2.5

I'm trying to import a big object (a CMF site) from a 2.3.3 zope to a 2.5.0 zope, and I'm getting this CompilerError - anyone have a clue how to fix this? Or maybe, a better way to move a (sub)site to a newer zope? Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. dtml-in with skip_unauthorized and sequence-end

Hi everybody, in a folder I have two other folders with the titles "foo" and "bar". The security settings for the "foo" folder define, that the Anonymous role doesn't have the "Access contents information". Now, a user with the role Anonymous calls a dtml method with the following code snippet (Zope 2.5): <dtml-in expr="objectValues( [ 'Folder', ] )" skip_unauthorized sort="Title"> <dtml-if sequence-start> <ul> </dtml-if> <li> ... </li> <dtml-if sequence-end> </ul> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> That way, the <dtml-if sequence-end> block seems never to get executed. The reason probably is that "foo" is the last item and therefore the whole dtml-in is skipped. How can I correct this? What I need is a way to list all folders except those which the user hasn't access to. Yours. Jens

How can I count the number of comments?

Hi, I'm trying trying to loop over a group of news folders a,b,c and output a count of the number of dtml documents (comments) in each. I've got this far (where ListComments is a dtml method that lists the comments): <dtml-in expr="News.objectValues()"> <dtml-var sequence-item> <A HREF="Comments/&dtml-id;/ListComments"> <dtml-var expr="_.len(Comments.*****.objectValues())"> Comments </A> </dtml-in> but I need to be able to replace the ***** with the current sequence-id (i.e. a, b, or c) and I can't get it to work. how to import .zexp containing obsolete products???

Hello I would like to import very old exported zope file (.bbe or .zexp). ( Note: I know how to convert the zodb2 to zodb3...) Unfortunately theses file contains products which are not installed anymore now: old db adaptor,confera... and the import failed. This is not really nice. Is there a way to do the import anyway? not importing the unknown or broken objects?? Or to 'clean' the old .bbe/.zexp from thoses objects? Thanks Gilles

(This is not a time-sensitive email -- but the meeting is making me think hard since this is a problem I will have to solve again and again) I think they have some some Cold Fusion/DB-backed sites and so forth (not ours) that they would like to synch/syndicate/and represent. Are there proprietary RSS/RDF/SOAP/XML/B2B/Service/Buzzword strategies that Allaire/Macromedia/CF push? Are there Python Package/Module/Method which can/could/would address these kinds of interoperability questions? Since the Foundation/.ORG world has embraced CF (as have many worlds -- silly gits!), we will see this again and again -- and I would like your help in maybe showing me the solutions that I have not considered. I would really appreciate someone's help when you have a chance -- the meeting is not a deadline, only an impetus. Also, I am working on finding a place in the area for the next ZPug meeting -- but I have my hands full. I will keep on looking, but if you have any ideas for places, please post them to the list and we can brainstorm together. We are building a web site that will allow customers to log in and view their account data. Users (along with everything else) are kept in a RDBMS. Are there any (relatively simple) examples out there of ways to implement users or user folders?
