Hi All, Does anyone have any idea how I could get a browser to provide authentication credentials (either basic auth or cookie auth) from the user's Network Login? This is on Windoze, although I'm not sure of the specifics. What are the options? cheers, Chris

Hi, im a newbee with ZOPE and with this mailing list trying to do the GUEST BOOK example thats on this page: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/SimpleExamples.dtml At the end of the example theres a pytho script thats needed to finally make the GuestBook example work, so when i copy it from the page, and paste it on zope (creating a python script) , sope says that thescript has errors.... Im not familiar with python, so if anyone could help, ill apreciate it. dtml-in syntax

zAllProjRoles is a zsqlmethod that returns as one of it's fields Projteamid. I can get a value if I use <dtml-var Projteamid> within the loop. ProjTeamPhones takes an argument called Projteamid. It should return all the phone numbers for this id number. But this code gives me a 'Bad Request Error' on 'Projteamid'. More Session errors (now with 2.5.0)

Chris/List, further to my last post ( http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/31062F4798B21631 )about experiencing problems with CST under 2.3.3, I now have a bit more information. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate it will be very helpful in diagnosing the problem :-(. So, the new setup is: - winNT4 - zope250 - DCO2 - built-in session machinery from zope250 (i.e. not CST anymore) - using the same site (exported from zope233 then imported to 250) as before The site is under considerably less load now, so errors are few an far between, but they *are* happening (I'm fairly certain this is not a load issue now). As for your other suggestions last time, I'm afraid we haven't got round to using 'ab' against the site. Neither have we tried "Sessions.stresstests.stresstestMultiThread.py", although now we are using the 250 session stuff, this should be fairly easy right? I'll look into this next, but I won't have much spare time for the next 2 weeks. Other interesting facts are: We appear to have a memory leak: This was present under zope233 as well, but we didn't spot it at the time. Do you or anyone else have a good suggestion for tracking this problem down? I am next to clueless in ways to do this :-(. Could it possibly be my web code? Could it be related to the flakey sessioning? <I presume the answer to both is 'Yes', but it's difficult to say either way> We see periodic zodb conflicts: I can't tell you much more than that until they happen again (we lost that particular log). The confusing thing is, I don't think there are any parts of the site that actually allow people to modify objects in the zodb. People can update an oracle database, and obviously they can query it as well, but that's about it. So what is trying to write to the zodb? The only thing I can think of is the session machinery, which I why I mention it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. cheers tim

Zope is hanging repeatedly

I am having problems with a Zope installation hanging after running for several minutes or hours. This started a couple of days ago after Zope had been running fine for the past few months. Here are the details of the installation: - Zope 2.3.1 (old, but what I'm stuck with for now) - Solaris 7 - Apache 1.3.19 with several virtual hosts - the virtual hosts that connect to Zope are using mod_rewrite, some are like this: RewriteRule ^/(.*) /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] [PT] ...while others are like this: RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://virtualhostname.com:8080/$1 [P] (We are not using Virtual Host Monster -- just found out about that yesterday) When Zope hangs I notice that there are a lot of Zope.cgi processes running on the system. I am not sure, though, if Zope is hanging because of the Zope.cgi processes, or if the Zope.cgi processes are hanging because of Zope hanging. One thing that concerns me is the size of our Data.fs file: -rw-r--r-- 1 zope nobody 702930743 Mar 7 23:37 Data.fs I know this needs to be packed, and I know the large size causes Zope to take a long time to start up. I don't have reason to believe that it is causing Zope to hang, however. When Zope hangs, the load average on the machine does not go up, Zope does not take excessive CPU. It seems to be just sleeping, perhaps waiting for something external to happen. The only solution I have found has been to restart it, which only helps temporarily. We initially suspected search bots were hitting the site and overloading it (we were seeing connections from googlebot.com) We configured Apache yesterday to reject those connections, but Zope still had problems last night. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Doug

porting a brilliant cms to a superior platform

I am a zope hobbyist, and have been using it for a while on a few projects but am still getting to grips with it. Recently I had to evaluate a stable, open-source, total content management and e-commerce solution for use as a commercial site. As I am not yet experienced enough to implement this kind of solution I went looking for something that was easy to use, functional, stable and open source. A big ask - and in the back of my mind I thought I'd have to start looking at commercial products - but then lo and behold I came across: eZpublish from eZ Systems (www.ez.no) It's absolutely brilliant, it handles article management with comments, forums, link management, photo gallerys, user management, caching etc. AND e-commerce (shopping carts, wishlists and ordering). It also supports windows, mac-os and linux (gtk i think) GUI clients for updating the site. It written in PHP4 and runs on apache and mysql and the code looks pretty complicated (although I don't really know PHP that well). My question is: Whould anyone be interested in porting this system (or consolodating and pollishing existing zope products) to create a simliar zope solution? All the advantages of zope object oriented nature and security could be utilised to create an absolutely killer app that could install from one single file, run on multiple operating systems, and maintained by even the biggest newbies. Also the existing documentation and even the GUI clients could be utilised if the systems were kept similar enough. Just something to think about. I admire the work of all the zope developers and just want say a big 'thank you' for all the work they've done.
