Storing Images in PostgreSQL

Hello, I am trying to store images in a PostgreSQL 7.2 database using the Psycopg database adapter, running Zope 2.5.0 on redhat linux. I found a tip at http://lists.initd.org/pipermail/psycopg/2001-June/000200.html and tried it out. Unfortunately I get an error like "Can't parse object 'Gif123/'..." Is there any documentation on how to store images in a PostgreSQL database from Zope ? cheers, nico

Problems with AIX4

Problems with Zope on AIX: Zope-2.5.1b2 Python 2.1.3 on AIX4 i install python and zope without any error. the start of zope also works fine, and i can connect to the startpage of zope, but when i try the /Examples or the /manage i get the message "the connection was refused" and zope is starting again. when i start zope with option -r i get a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" and zope chrashed. i have also try it with Zope-2.5.0 and i get the same error. but zope-2.3 works without any problems on our AIX.

extra data for users

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I'm having a hard time finding general advice on this. I'm really new to zope. I'm running zope, CFM and plone. I am trying to build a "secret santa" system, where each user will eventually be given the address and name of another user that they will send a gift to. This means that each user needs to have the additional "address" and "gives-to" fields. Can someone give a recommendation of how I should store this extra data? Should I extend the zope users, or should I store the data with the CFM member's folder (what format would this be?), or should I put it all in a database? Ideally I'd have the data with the zope user object, so that when someone deletes themself from the system I can track down their recipient and find the recipient a new giver. Is there an easy way to add new attributes to the user, and are they easily modified after the user is created?

Vanishing Zcatalog entries

I maintain a ZCatalog for content metadata on our Zope site; occasionally the catalog contents seem to just vanish, leaving our site looking empty. Doing an "Update Catalog" restores all the entries, but is there a way to prevent this happening in the first place?

Installing Zope 2.5.0 Stable release and Python 2.1.2

Hi, according to this page: http://www.python.org/2.1.3/ Python 2.1.2, version which Zope 2.5.0 uses, has a bug which causes Zope to crash. So, I just wondering which python source should I install for Zope 2.5.0 stable release. Or perhaps Do the two hotfixes for Zope 2.5.0 correct it? Thanks in advanced, Josef.

publish() hook

Hi there! I'd like to add a little functionality to my ZPublisher.Publish.publish method. So I created a new Product and in the __init__.py file of ths product I put code like this: import ZPublisher def publish_new(same fingerprint as ZPublisher.Publish.publish): response = ZPublisher.Publish.publish_old(paramaters) # #aditional functionality # return respone ZPublisher.Publish.publish_old = ZPublisher.Publish.publish ZPublisher.Publish.publish = publish_new Using this code Zope starts up w/o error but I don't see any effects of my new publish method. In fact - even if there is an error in my additional code it never raises an exception so I figure that my new pubish method never gets called. Some additional info: I'm running Zope 2.4.1 on a WinNT machine. Can anyone help me out? Please? Thanks Falk
