Hi Paul Well I didn't throw the SUN server away after I had the same faults with a Linux server. This and the fact that RPMs worked convinced me that the fault must be mine. But we're talking hours here before I would have done it. Now I'm as happy a a newborn! I noticed an increase in speed between 2-10 fold!! And since our programming is VERY lean&fast because of the problems we had (we had to optimize very much) the pages seem as if they were static content even when doing recursive calls. Therefore I'm very happy now. Even with Solaris. ;-) Ok here are the configs and the numbers: Test: Solaris 2.8, 4 x Sparc 450Mhz, 2Gb RAM, Zope 2.4.4b1, Python 2.1.2 (gcc), lib/lwp, pystones: 4587, -t 4 -i 32, DBsize 470Mb Prod.: Solaris 2.7, Pentium III 1Ghz, 512Mb RAM, Zope 2.4.0, Python 2.1.1 (gcc), lib??, pystones: 11764, -t 7 -i 32, DBsize 470Mb Linux Test: Readhat 7.2, Pentium II 266Mhz, 64Mb RAM, Zope 2.5.0, Python 2.1.2, lib??, pystones: 2688, -t ? -i ?, DBsize 50Mb All work perfectly fine! The production Pentium III is mainly twiddling thumbs. Even when doing reorgs or reindexing of the main Catalog the performance only drops very slightly. Now I've set up a small project doing research on different compilers, compiler options, libs,... I'll post the pystones when I get them (probably in June). Oliver Erlewein P.S. BUG FSCounter: Anonymous can clean up counter file

Hi, if using FSCounter it's possible for user Anonymous to clean up the counter's file with an easy: http://yourdomain.de/counterobject/write/count=crashme Now the counter file on server's filesystem is empty and FSCounter's "read" method breaks with "ValueError: invalid literal for int()". On most websites FSCounter instances are just called "counter" or "Counter" and placed in the root folder. So it's a secound to reset the counter and in some cases this crash the front site too if the counter object is called without a dtml-try tag. a short fix: change write method to: def write(self): ''' increment file ''' count = 1 value = self.read() outfile = open(str(Globals.data_dir) + os.sep + str(self.filename), 'wb') outfile.write(str(value + count)) outfile.close() return int(value + count) and increase method to: def increase(self, REQUEST=None): ''' increase ''' return self.write() Bye Marcus -- ,---- [ Marcus Schopen ] | (0> | //\ P.O. problem with python time-module

I have a python script in a zope product. With this python script i want convert date time in epoch time. If i start the script i get the Authentication window after Cancel i get the error message "Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access time in this context" I can't import time module. DTML type casting? or something? / LocalFS subdirectory exists test

I'm having a DTML problem here. I'm trying to test whether a subdirectory (whose id=ProjectID) exists under a LocalFS object. <dtml-with ProjectID> <dtml-if "'&dtml-ProjectID;' in projectfiles.fileIds()"> The directory "<dtml-var ProjectID>" exists <dtml-else> "<dtml-var ProjectID>" does not exist </dtml-if> </dtml-with> When I manually enter a value in place of ProjectID it works fine (ex. "'202006' in projectfiles.filesIds()"). When I use &dtml-ProjectID; it doesn't work. I presume that the value of ProjectID is not being translated into an appropriate format for the expression to work, but I don't know how to test this or to resolve this. Any thoughts? Hi all Finally I solved my threading problems! The answer was as simple as asking wether the powerchord was plugged in. I found a passage (after searching a long time) which describes the problem: <<< ...There are two sure ways to hang Zope by starting a Stream thread. The first is to start Zope with the "-t 1" option, which basically makes it use one thread. I can't think of any reason you'd do this, so I won't harp on it. The second way is to use Zope profiling (enabled by setting the PROFILE_PUBLISHER environment variable before starting Zope)... >>> There are few references in the internet to this behaviour. This is my reason for posting this (otherwise I'd be too ahamed to write such an obvious thing *blush*). So maybe there are some more people out there that are not aware of this fact. I hope they find this comment ;-) At this point I'd like to apologise to all the people I've stirred up in the last months. Sorry guys it was my fault!!
