Impossibly long urls

Hello folks, Can anyone explain why my Zope apps generate loooooooooooong urls? It seems that each action (clicking a button or an href) results in the target (the object being called) being appended to the current url which is submitted to the server. I've pored over the various Zope references but nothing sticks out as obvious. I've tried specifying the path directly to a Zope object in both Python scripts and dtml documents, and also used relative linking where possible. The effect is always the same and apart from causing the server to overwork it also leads to problems with database operations. Any help will be much appreciated. cheers David

I also only seem to get it using IE5 (as it happens in OS X). The first line does indeed get replaced with a random string of characters (which panics me especially if that first line is a DTML tag!). First I thought this was down to me testing my dreamweaver DTML extension, but it looks like its a common thing. We have had a re-occuring issue of IE on the mac loosing the characters from the bottom of a DTML method or document. This we managed to work out was because of the limit of characters in an multi-line input box in IE (in classic). So we resorted to editing using a PC for a while. For some reason IE in OS X doesn't have this (or maybe I have not used a long enough document yet!). [I have not tested it thoroughly to know if this only happens with IE or not, so I can't be 100% sure on that.] If it happens I tend to use Mozilla on OS X, which hasn't (as yet) caused this problem to occur. Test if an object exists in a folder

manage_workspace in doubt

Hello, We have a strange problem which only occurs on certain PC's/browsers. In the Zope management screen, the left menu lists all folders. Each folder points to /folder/manage_workspace (as can be seen in the status bar). Normally, /folder/manage_workspace is redirected to /folder/manage_main, so you see the contents of the folder on the right. On some PC's, instead of /folder/manage_workspace /folder/index_html appears, the page as seen by a visitor, which is not wat we want. It has nothing to do with rights. When I log in at my own PC, everything works fine, but logged in on this "problem PC", I have the mentioned problem. How is this possilble? Or better: how can I solve this? Dynamic Menus

Sorry here's yet another newbie question . . . I'm looking for the best way to set up dynamic menus for my zope sites. With PHP and Mysql, I set up a table for categories and a table for articles. In the categories table, a field specified whether a particular category should be added to the menu or not. In rendering the menu, I checked which category the user was in, and highlighted that entry in the menu. Each category could have one or more articles, and one article could be set as the "default" article for that category and therefore automatically displayed. If there was no default article, a list of links to all the articles in that category was displayed. I'm wondering whether I'll need to create a "product" to come up with something in zope that has the same functionality. The only built-in option I've found so far is the "dtml-tree" tag, which I guess will do until I've figured out the ins and outs of zope well enough to program stuff for it. Changing document type how-to: another idea

Hi, It exist a mini-how-to (I loose URL) about changing document type via ZMI. But it is not useable for many documents. After I was uninstall "HTML Document" product, I have lot of files that have "HTML Document" type instead of File or "DTML Document". I have try another method via FTP to change into "DTML Document". 1. copy files from Zope via FTP to local filesystem 2. delete files in Zope (via FTP) 3. and copy files from local back to Zope via FTP But these throw away all properties (same as method in mini-how-to) and does not allow to change into another than "DTML Document". xml-rpc client for zope w/cookie authentication

Like the subject says, I am looking to make a command-line-based xml-rpc client (in python) to talk to my zope server. I am using SMB auth via loginmanager so would need to work in the cookie authentication somehow. Anyone impliment this yet? I don't want to re-invent the wheel...

Returning a zip file (downloaded by user)??

Hi, I have a zip file that I create on the fly which is to be returned to the user. The process goes like this: 1. User clicks on a link. 2. External method creates a zip file and puts it in a temp folder( file system folder not Zope temp) 3. External method (same one) returns the zip file as part of response as type application/x-zip The following is what I do in to get it done:(part 3 i.e.) zip_size = stat(zip_file_name).st_size zip_file = open(zip_file_name) zip_data = zip_file.read() zip_file.close() REQUEST.RESPONSE.setStatus('OK') REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type','application/x-zip') REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Length',zip_size) REQUEST.RESPONSE.write(zip_data) but when I try it out the following happens: - the zip file is created - zip_data has the data (of course) - i am prompted to download something of type application/x-unknown-content - if i save the file it has zero length so what am I doing wrong or not doing here, that needs to be done to get this right??
