Running Zope as a daemon (sp?) on Linux.

Hi all, First time running Zope on Linux, and I've created a user solely for the purpose of running Zope. This user is called "zope". I'm not great with Linux, so there's probably something very simple I'm missing. I want to have Zope be run by this user every time the machine starts. I can SSH in to the machine as user "zope" and start Zope, and as long as the SSH connection is open, Zope runs. But how would I set something up so Zope would run as this user all the time. Getting more out of logging? What is the best way to get information about problems with Zope? Any help?

Hi all, I've been experiencing some problems with an application that our customers are using from their network. I assume that their browsers - or atleast some of them - are a bit modified versions of Internet Explorer. Now some users have had problems with applications and we are unable to reproduce the errors. Our Zope sists behind Apache and I have tried to get any information from Apache or Zope logs. Log's are no use, since we do see where does the request come from and that it did get an error response back. However I don't get out from the logs the information that caused the error messages. Is there a way - or what would be the best way - to get also the tracebacks and more information about the enviroment during the error? Any good ideas are appreciated! Help! ,-) -huima

HTML Document rendering?

Hi all, I do not want to access HTML documents directly via URL, I want to render these documents via dtml-var method. So few HTML documents will be rendered into one page with omit all other than BODY container. But I want to upload whole HTML documents. self-referential page design

I'm looking for general advice on how I can have a page that contains a search interface AND the results of that search. A detailed description follows. I have page which displays summarized business information for the current month. It is composed of tables which describe the general layout, and each cell contains the results of various other dtml documents generated from zsql queries. I want to add a drop-down form to select the month you would like to view the information from. This I can do; let's call the field in the form input_month. Once I have the page loaded, I can select the month to view and all the component parts run their queries using the input_month parameter. Great. However, when I load the root document, input_month does not have an assigned value. By default , I want it to display the current month. I can derive that information with python script magic. What would be the best way to assign a value to that variable if it's current value is null? I have some ideas, but most of them are bad.

Using SSL with Zope/Apache with url rewriting.

Hi all, I've got my Zope server happily working away behind apache, using URL rewriting. But given as I don't entirely understand URL rewriting or virtual host monsters yet, I have almost no idea how to get SSL working. I need a secure connection to Zope. SSL on apache is working fine, using a dummy certificate. Thanks for any direction you may be able to give me. Alec Munro

How to reload two frames?

Hello, I have a site with two frames (there is a reason for the use of frames). One frame shows an image of a newspaper page belonging to a certain date. The upper frame is a navigation bar. It can point the other frame to a different image (First page, Back, Forward, Last page) or to a different date (Previous, Next and free). The navigation frame can send the appropriate image to the image frame, but since the value of the variables (date, page) will then have changed, the navigation frame needs to reload too with the new values. Can anybody point to a way to get this done (without Javascript)? BTW does anybody know how to implement an HTML <target="framename"> into a <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(foo)">? Cheers, Dirk

CLIENT_HOME

All of a sudden at starting a Zope instance, I get this error message on the console: File "/usr/local/zope/z2.py", line 476, in ? zdaemon.run(sys.argv, os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, Zpid)) NameError: name 'CLIENT_HOME' is not defined It worked before. I installed some CMF Content types and stuff, but can't remember changing anything above of the Products directory. Stephan

apache rewrite & authentication

hi, we´ve set up apache to rewrite http requests /w a virtual host monster configured at the zope root; authenticating via cookies works only within the page called first; to access other restricted pages, we have to authenticate again. without apache rewriting everything works o.k. -> seems like apache doesn´t leave the authentication to zope but catches the cookie so zope doesn´t know that the user is already authenticated?! -> my question: is this a rewrite, authentication or proxying issue within apache / does anybody have a fix? thank you a lot in adveance, oliver -- This is Linux Country. ImageFile problem?

I'm seeing a mysterious problem with ImageFile images in a Zope instance running on FreeBSD (I used the thread stack-size patch for Python, BTW). Python 2.1.3 and Zope 2.5.1. The images are defined essentially like this: class ImageContainer(Folder): # ... def __init__(self): self.img_a = ImageFile('www/Images/img_a.jpg', globals()) # ... class myproduct(Folder): # ... def __init__(self): self.Images = ImageContainer() # ... (This seems to work well with DTMLFile methods). On the first viewing of the page, everything works fine -- images come up as expected. However, if after the page loads in Netscape, I use "shift-reload" to reload all the images, ALL of the images loaded this way come up broken. Alternatively, if I used "view image" on the images, the browser hangs, and I eventually get "document contained no data". This behavior continues for additional attempts. Only after shutting down netscape and waiting for awhile does it work again (a day is certainly long enough, but five minutes may not be -- I haven't systematically tested to figure out how long I have to wait). Obviously that's unacceptable in practice! Any ideas about what could be going wrong? The reason these are loaded like this is so that I can use these for buttons and things without having to clutter up the instance space in the ZMI. They need to be accessible by URL, but don't need to show up in folder listing (I'd prefer that they didn't). Is there a better/safer way to do that? Yep, I see similar behavior. Zope doesn't respond until 30s+ after the service has supposedly restarted. I pack frequently, and my database is only 57mb. I can see a bunch of .py and .pyc files in sub-directories, so no ideas if some could be removed to force Zope to use byte-code-compiled files to speed things up. Anybody else running Zope 2.5.1 under W2K (256RAM, IDE drive) has to wait about 30s before it's up and running?
