Accessing Files within Zope?

Hi all, I have just set up a folder which is designed to contain details of all our users. I've set up a ZClass for these users. The problem I am having is the transferance from our old system to our new one. I have a file containing all the email addresses of the old users (which is all I need initially), one per line, and want to write a script that steps through this file and processes the users into the Zope interface. The problem I am having is that I am finding it impossible to actually open the file within zope so you can actually use it. I've tried scripting with filein = open(file) But that never actually worked. I've tried it in Zope methods with "<dtml-in "_.getitem(file).split('\n')"> But that assumes it is a string (I admit, it was wishful thinking when I tried that). Does anyone know of a way to read a text file, contained in zope, and step through it? I've looked in the archives, and not found a way. Thanks! Di

You have access to all of Python in an External Method. You can write a nonce program to read the file and construct dtml document or documents. You can install a product like External File or Local File System which provides direct access to the files in Zope. The files behave as DTML documents.

Upload, read() and a rather unexpected persistence

Hi, I just found out that it is impossible to use File.read(20000) twice even in separate scripts, because Zope remembers the file position. Therefore data must be saved in the same Python Script that checks for validity and the data distilled from File.read must be saved elsewhere, if the saving procedure would use File.read again. Details: HTTP upload files may be checked via simple routine: fault=[] for F in files: Ft = context.filetype(F.file.read(20000)) # filetype is External method that calls UNIX's file command if Ft.find('GIF image data')==-1: fault.append('Not an image'.) But it is impossible to use F.file.read(20000) in a second script whose execution follows, because Zope remembers the 20000 position and will start reading at position 20001. Is this a feature (persistence), or a bug? -- Milos Prudek

Unable tp configure PostgreSql to work with zope...

I am unable to install PoPy-2.0.6 on my Linux machine. On running configure i am getting this error. Webalizer and Zope

Does anyone use Webalizer for Zope's Z2.log? I tried to make it work, but Webalizer just barfs on FTP logs Zope mixes with HTTP requests inside Z2.log. BTW those FTP logs look somewhat wrong to me -- the port/pid/whatever is just concatenated to the end of the IP address: 10.0.7.649118 ==> 220 zeta FTP server (Medusa Async V1.18.60.1 [experimental]) > 10.0.7.649118 <== USER mg 10.0.7.649118 ==> 331 Password required. ... different way to display elements in article_view

Hi list, in article_view I have seen that zope is listings elements using this: tal:define="elemstruc string:element/${element/getView}" tal:replace="structure python:path(elemstruc)">Rendered Element and this returns the list of all subelements that have been posted in the article. I have figured out how each element is formatted (yellow box around the link element and so on...). My problem is that I can't figure out how to display each element in a different position. With that tal routine it returns all the elements but I can't seem to separate each one so I can display them in differents parts of my page... I have tried something like this but it doesn't work... Type: type <div tal:condition="etype/alink_view"> can anyone help me? thanks a lot Luca
