Newbie - ZCatalog expression from REQUEST object?

I have what is quite probably a stupid newbie question and apologize in advance. I have configured a ZCatalog with custom indexes and wish to do a relatively simple search on that catalog via the code below. <dtml-in expr="Catalog(start_date=ZopeTime(), start_date_usage='range:max', end_date=ZopeTime(), end_date_usage='range:min', com_search='<dtml-var name=searchterm>' )"> start_date is used to limit returned items to those that have a start_date earlier than today, end_date is used to limit returned items to those that have an end_date later than today. Both of those work. My issue is passing the Request object searchterm. It is in the namespace, as I can show the var above the dtml-in line. I have tried 1. <dtml-var searchterm> 2. <dtml-var name="searchterm"> (I get invalid attribute name) 3. <dtml-var name=searchterm> 1 and 3 return no results, and #2 gives me invalid attribute name. It looks as if I have bad syntax but I do not know where. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. Lonnie Maynard

question about inheriting attributes

Hi, I am hoping to use ZClasses to setup a base class, with attributes which i would like to be available to ZClass instances of subclasses of that base class. But it doesn't seem that ZClass attributes are inheritable? Can i do this with python classes? Thanks, mark

dynamically created tablename in ZSQL

Hello all, I would like to choose via a formfield (called 'tablename') which table ('employers' or 'employees') is going to be queried. I use in my ZSQL Method the following: select * from <dtml-var tablename> because select * from <dtml-sqlvar tablename type=string> results in e.g. select * from 'employees' which results in an sql error because of the quotes. Any advice with respect to the safety of using the dtml-var, i.e. could the formfield 'tablename' be fiddled with to contain something like 'employees; delete from employees'? Is there an alternative solution to get rid of the quotes in the dtml-sqlvar? best regards, Roger Erens

Totaly dynamic path?

Can anybody tell me how I can construct a dynamic path with attributes in a python product? my situation is: I get the classname, methodname and attributes by a dynamic form. They are strings and the names and attributes are dynamic. I do a iteration over the request an split the names and attributes. Just for fun: Zope mail archive in Zope

Inspired by the excellent speed and search results provided by ZCTextIndex (the new text indexing software that will come with Zope 2.6), I've created a Zope maillist mail archive at http://saints.homeunix.com:8080/ which has the following properties: - Runs on Zope 2.6 (Zope trunk, actually). - Fronted by Squid. - Uses ZCTextIndex to provide very accurate search results (search for "dtml-in" or "tal:content", for example). - Runs on a really nasty Celeron 700 that I can't believe actually works. The Zope@ maillist is being archived in realtime and I've also backloaded it with all Zope maillist messages since January 2002. The site isn't permanent and may be down from time to time, but give it a whirl and let me know what you think. - C

Windows ODBC from Linux

Hello, I would like to use a Zope Adapter to access MSAccess database in windows plataform via ODBC from Linux. Does anyone have a good idea for it? The solutions of dbtcp and ODBCSocketServer don't have Zope Adapter. I was thinking about two instance of Zope. One instance in windows with ODBC Adapter and other instance in Linux. The instance in Linux will use Adapter of instance in Windows. But I would like this solution become as transparent as possible for scripts in Linux Instance. Is it possible? -- Marco Catunda

How should my ISP set up Zope?

Hi I'm looking to "help" my ISP (aletia.com) to add Zope to its list of services. I'm not very clued up on Zope at all, so I'd apreciate some advice on how best to do it. On each server (RH 7.2) they host several dozen users - generally all www stuff happens through Apache VirtualHost entries - i.e. I have a ~/public_html directory and I can put .htaccess files in there to specify how I want my pages to work. What is the best way to install Zope? I can think of 2 possibilities: 1. Each user can have their own Zope installation (it's not that big and they can do what they like with it). Then I guess as long as they install mod_fastcgi on apache, and make Zope run FastCGI-aware, you've got a decent system. The issues I have with this are: - how would you get the Zope server started when they reboot the machines (which does happen now and again) - can Zope and Apache get along if the users don't have access to httpd.conf, but only to .htaccess files under their ~/public_html? 2. There's one big Zope installation, and the ISP sets up an account for each user who's interested, with a virtual domain and gives them the Manager role for everything under that domain. I would appreciate advice/ideas. Some issues could include: - best way of providing backups - logging issues - installing Zope products Thanks in advance, Felix.
