Hi... A few little questions about ZODB and ZCatalog... 1. I have a new Zope database (= 2.5 Mo). After adding a single PDF file of 3.5 Mo, the database is nearly 10 Mo huge !! Is required space into ZODB "reserved" by big blocks, or may the ZODB's size increase twice as the size of files which are stored into it ?? 2. After adding a few PDF files of nearly 3 Mo, stored as "ExternalFiles" (which means that only metadatas are stored into ZODB), and indexing them into a ZCatalog with TextIndexNG (my ExternalFiles provide a PrincipiaSearchSource method with the help of "pdftotext"), the size of the ZODB is 19 Mo. Does it means that full text indexing is using as much space as the document itself (but I'm starting with an empty ZCatalog) ?? 3. I'd like my products instances to be indexed automatically, as soon as they are created or modified. But as indexing seems to be quite long with big files, is it possible to index these documents in the background, so that the user does not have to wait until indexation is finished... 4. Does anyone have any experience with ZODB files bigger than 2 Giga-bytes on Linux. If so, how long does it take to pack ?? referencing objects returned by z-catalog

Hi, I'm having difficulty with the syntax needed to access the objects in the results object returned by a z-catalog. I'm using the dtml-calendar tag to give a calendar display of objects, which have a date field. I have 3 objects of a product called calendar_event, which has a text property notes, and string field event_date. I have a z-catalog called ce_catalog, which indexes these, but without the notes field in the metadata - it's a large text field, so I don't want to bring it back in every object referred to in a search result. I try to call it with the following dtml: <dtml-calendar> <dtml-let year="date.year()" month="date.month()" day="date.day()" key="'%.4d-%.2d-%.2d' % (year,month,day)"> <dtml-in "ce_catalog({'event_date':key})"> <dtml-var expr="_['sequence-item'].notes"> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> </dtml-calendar> but I get an attribute error - error value: notes. if I replace the sequence-item dtml-var tag with <dtml-var expr="_['sequence-key']"> this gives me the object ids. and if I just call the object directly by id, e.g. <dtml-var expr="ce_1.notes">, this gives me the value I'm after. what am I doing wrong? I've been using Zope 2.3.2 until last week and it had a "start" and a "stop" script in the <ZOPEHOME> directory. When I didn't find them I read /opt/zope/ZServer/INSTALL.txt (there you're told to use python2.1 z2.py -w 8888 -f "" -p "" -m "" &) and I didn't realize that Zope and ZServer aren't the same thing (what's the difference?). python sockets on Suse 8.0

Hi, I'm running python 2.5.0 on Suse 8.0 and I'm trying to use sockets. I found the example programs "sockserver.py" and "sockclient.py" (see below) in a book but there are bugs in them. I fixed one in sockclient.py (it has to be "s.connect((HOST,PORT))", two parantheses) but I can't get sockserver.py to run. I keep getting socket.error: (22, 'Invalid argument') and this error occurs while processing the line conn, addr = s.accept() Any idea? Might it be that the python sockets only work under UNIX and not LINUX? stop zope on Suse 8.0

Hi, I'm running Zope 2.5.0 on Suse 8.0 . Since there is no start script any more you start it with python z2.py - but how do you stop it? Kill the process??? Couldn't that harm the object database if zope is just writing to it? Different stylesheet for different browsers

Hi, How can I use one stylesheet for Netscape and older browsers and another for Mozilla, IE, Opera etc ? Is there an easy way to detect browser type and use a specified stylesheet for that browser? Preferrably not Zope specific, but perhaps javascript or CSS, I don't care. As long as its cross-browser it's ok. Best regards, Thomas Weholt

Stopping/Starting Zope as an NT Service

Running Zope 2.5.1 on Win2k, installed as an NT service. On a fresh boot, I can start Zope with 'net start Zope', windows task manager shows both python.exe and PythonService.exe as running. If I try to stop Zope with 'net stop Zope', task manager shows that PythonService.exe dies but python.exe is still running. Task manager also won't let me manually kill python.exe since it belongs to a service. So I try to restart the service with 'net start Zope', task manager shows PythonService.exe start as well as a 2nd instance of python.exe. These two quickly die however, leaving the original python.exe still running and making windows think that the service is stopped. Has anyone else experienced this un-service-like NT service behavior, and if so, does anyone have a workaround? David A.
